The Worst Hilton Property in 4 Continents !! Hilton Garden Inn @ Central Park South - Review from A HILTON DIAMOND MEMBE

Everything was really bad - from the lack of spoken (or understood) English at the check-in, to their terrible attitude (yes, we know its New York, but you really don't need to rub it in our faces), to the way the hungry waiters circled our breakfast table like wolves and kept waving the breakfast coupon and saying "this doesn't include the tip, you know!), to the urine in the elevators, the smell in the corridors, the concierge who could not order a taxi or make a restaurant booking despite 3 reminders, the morning wake-up call that failed to happen... But here is the piece de resistance ! The night before I was supposed to check out, my suitcase vanished from my room along with a carton of cigarettes placed on the bedside table. When I called the front desk, they told me we can't help you till the morning when housekeeping gets in. My flight was in the morning and when I went to the front desk they said they had no news and I ended up leaving the hotel without my suitcase !! I am a Hilton Diamond Member. I really wonder how this property treats the other guests... Collapse

This is one of my favorite hotels in the city... great location in a convenient area that is thankfully a bit outside of the chaos of Times Square, friendly staff that unfailingly greets me every time I come in the door, convenience of fridge & microwaves in every room, early check in accommodated as much as possible, none of the ridiculous 'Urban Destination Fees' that seem to be creeping up in other city properties. Elevators can be a bit slow, so I always get a room on a low floor to utilize the stairs to simplify. Room sizes and configurations vary quite a bit, so if using the e-checkin feature, pay attention to the floor plans to ensure you select the optional scenario for your needs. All in all, one of my go-to hotels in a city full of options. Collapse

Stayed for four nights, and the location was great for accessing the Theater District, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and also the subway to other parts of town. Brand spanking new bathroom and comfortable bed. Friendly staff, especially the doormen. It was so nice to go back to our room at the end of the day. Highly recommend! Collapse

Our second stay here and it appears the wear and tear is happening fast for this relatively new property. The front desk staff is mixed. Some are very pleasant and competent including and especially the bell man. Some cannot care less or even have a bit of an attitude. We didn’t get bottles of water during check-in even though I have silver status. I had to ask for them once I saw other people who checked in later got them. We were staying in the middle of extremely cold weather. We asked for an extra blanket while stopping at the front desk on the way back to our room. No blanket after about 30 min later. Had to call and asked again to finally get one. Rooms are small with odd/poor designs. For example, when shower door is fully closed the door handle will block the room door so you can’t open the door to enter or exit the room without at least partially opening the bathroom door. The dual electrical outlets are too close together (incorrectly installed??) so they can only be used one at a time i.e. you can’t charge 2 devices from the dual outlets. Elevators are slow during peak usage. I really want to like this hotel due to its excellent location. Next time, we will either go to the much more solid Courtyard & Residence Inn just 2 doors down or Hampton Inn just a few blocks away. Collapse

My spouse and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South/Midtown West for two nights on a weekend in early December 2017. We booked our stay online using the Hilton website, and we remitted Hilton HHonors points for a complimentary 2-night stay. The HGI is located on West 54th Street, between 8th Avenue and Broadway. It holds the distinction of being the largest HGI in North America, with 400+ rooms in the categories of queen, king, second-floor king/queen/double deluxe with outdoor terraces, and king city view) spread over 30 floors. The day prior to our stay, we selected room 2704 during the online check-in process because that room offered a view of West 54th Street. However, we did not realize that we had chosen a handicap-accessible room, with provisions for auditory and mobility issues. The hotel offers a fitness center, business center, and pantry (all accessible 24 hours), as well as a doorman, bellman, and concierge. The adjacent Empire Steakhouse functions as the hotel restaurant, although it is frequented the public as well. As previously mentioned, we received a handicap-accessible room that had an automatic door opener button, hearing-accessible “doorbell”, large tiled “foyer” that could accommodate a power wheelchair, roll-in shower with fold-down bench seat and both wall-mounted and hand-held spray attachments, grab bars in the bathroom, a free-standing closet/armoire with low hanging bars (the closet also held the single-use coffee maker, mini-refrigerator, microwave, iron, and ironing board), and extended pull bars to close the draperies. Besides those accessibility features, our room offered a king-size bed with a nightstand and reading lamp on each side and a long desk/television console/desk with a rolling chair. Next time, we would like to book one of the junior suites, because those units include a 400-square foot terrace, plus a deluxe bathroom with a separate shower and soaking tub. We experienced some issues with the elevator on the weekend that we stayed, as well as with our electronic room key and with the electrical features in our room (the power strip/outlet block on the desk didn’t work, and we also had a burned out lightbulb in one bedside lamp). The issues were nothing that would prevent us from staying at this HGI again, particularly if we could score one of the terrace suites; however, with so many other Hilton properties in Manhattan, even several within the same neighborhood, we might try somewhere different next time.
