Certainly located in one of the nicer areas of Birmingham and not too far from most main destinations. The reception and dining areas are clearly refurbished recently and the garden/industrial combo theme looks great. The rooms are still absolutely fine and to Hilton's standard, but in comparison to the communal areas definitely a little more tired. The rooms were clean and cleaned every day, and spacious enough, though a little on the smaller side than some other Hilton's I've stayed in. Couldn't hear much noise from the hallway, but picked up a bit from the street. A few negatives - this is debatable whether it's a bad thing, but the beds are VERY firm/hard. There was a group of us an everyone agreed, though the only one really bothered was probably just myself. Though, most everything else seems to be refurbed, the air con looked and sounded tired. We had to leave ours on for the night on the coolest setting and on max and we still had almost no air in the room. When holding my hands in front of it, some cool air was indeed leaving it, but it didn't make any difference to a room with two people in it. We couldn't leave the window open either as not only was it facing the street, it didn't lock properly and banged with the wind. With the combination of the noise and hard bed I actually decided to leave my friends behind a night early cause I just couldn't get a good night sleep. That being said, my friends seemed unbothered by all of this (which is why I didn't request to change rooms or bring this up with the staff, I'm confident an alternative would've been offered however). And finally, this is nitpicking really, but the TV was quite slow to respond. We also had breakfast there - good enough, but not the best I've had in Hilton. Cereal station was the most elaborate I've seen as were the waffle toppings, full English looked fine and the omelet I had both days was lovely. However, the waffles were a little too salty and the machine needed some force to get the batter out; I don't think the OJ was the fresh kind; and there were no basic greens in sight, so we struggled to compile a healthier plate. The water had ice and lemon/cucumber in it the first day, but was just bland the next; one morning there was a menu whereas the other there was not. Chefs were all great and attentive, though floor staff seemed a little less approachable. Reception and bar staff we came across with were all very friendly and helpful and we had no issues with. Overall, personally, I probably wouldn't stay again because of the beds, but otherwise it was a pleasant experience. Collapse
Convenient city centre hotel

A clean, comfortable hotel. Friendly, helpful staff, good internet access. Close to the Jewellery Quarter and other city centre amenities. The room was more than adequate, it had easy to use heating controls, good size shower and a window that opened

Booked for afternoon tea for my sister's birthday. I put in "special requirements" its for a birthday. When we arrived I asked the waitress at the side if it's possible to bring out a plate saying happy birthday, with a small cake etc. She said she would find out. She came back saying it wasn't possible, the chef cant do it. I asked why, she said it needed to be written on the email with specific details as to what was required. I didn't understand what was so hard for a big hotel not to simply put a happy birthday message on a plate with some chocolate.... the waitress came back 3-4 times saying they can't do it. As she said that they must have made it and brought it out. After all the hassle the surprise was ruined as the waitress had the whole discussion with us infront of my sister (whose brirthday it was) anyway. They also forgot out prosecco we had to remind them. Whole day was a shambles. Would not go back. Sandwiches were average. Cakes were ok. Collapse

Having stayed at this hotel 5 years ago and throughly enjoying it, we thought we’d stay here again, even though it was pricey at £148 for an overnight stay. We would of loved to have gone for a couple of Birthday drinks in the bar, after going to a concert, which is what we did when we stayed here previously. But there was a works doo, disco in the bar ,which was full of drunk people at a their Christmas party, some of which could hardly walk. I do wish the hotel told us of this, because we would of stayed somewhere else. The bedroom was far far too hot, the air con did not work at all. The next morning there was guests swearing at each other in reception, still drunk from the night before probably. We will definitely not be staying here again, it was definitely not worth £148.
