This is a nice hotel and in my opinion caters more for conferences than weekend breaks. The reception / bar area is large and makes the furniture look a little lost. On the whole I thought the hotel needed a bit of a revamp but was clean and tidy. It’s about a £5 cab ride to the bars and restaurants of Croydon. The big plus was the staff who were brilliant. Luke on reception took care of us from the moment we arrived. The bar staff were very good and made us feel right at home. The bedrooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very good and again the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Collapse

Luke on reception was great, a really lovely guy who couldn’t do enough for us. We had a nice breakfast the following morning with lots of choice and they will cook you a poached egg or an omelette if you wish, you just have to ask. We had an enjoyable stay so would use this hotel again if we were in the area. Collapse

Hilton Honors diamond member. Checked in and given room key. Went to room to open door and found room already occupied by a very surprised couple. Back to reception and given new room and key with apologies and offer of free dinner. We took this up in the bar as the restaurant was closed. Next day did express checkout and have been charged for dinner and no Honors points added for our stay. Contacted them twice for dinner refund and to have points for room stay added with no reply. Contacted again today for the third time. Very disappointed. Collapse

My parents had booked a room for them for 3 nights and a desperate room for me for 2 nights. My parents live in the North and I live in the South but had to be in croydon for personal reasons. This has been booked online, you have to provide a card but this is not for payment, so my father put his card details in. But knowing that the card that is produced at the hotel on check-in is the card that will pay for the stay. This had been booked two months in advance. On a slightly separate note, I decided a few days before that I wanted to be there for 3 nights too arriving the same day as M&F, rather than the following day. I called the hotel to explain this and they gave me a higher price than online and suggested that I booked online separately for the additional night for cheaper price which I did. On check-in I explained about my separate booking and gave my card as I was paying for my 1 night. My mother gave her card to pay for their 3 nights and my 2 nights that had originally been booked. I would like to say that the ONLY positive of the whole stay was a very pleasant young man, his name is Luke who is Customer Service at the front desk. He was extremely welcoming, very attentive and could not have been more helpful, he is the star of the Hilton! I asked if my room has a separate shower, as due to my disability I can’t use baths. He upgraded me to a larger room (free) and was very accommodating. We were given a complimentary drink from the bar and settled in. The room: although I was grateful of the upgrade I was shocked at the cleanliness and state of disrepair. Luke did say they are going to be refurbishing next year but oh my word it needs doing 10 years ago! Firstly the disrepair, my father stayed at this hotel over 20 years ago and said everything’s the same! Well I can believe him. I am quite shocked for a Hilton to think these rooms are still appropriate for their customers. The furniture was chipped, the bathroom tiles were cracked on the floor and around the shower cubicle. With the odd bright white tile that didn’t match here and there. It was reasonably clean though. The cleanliness: The carpet in the room was disgusting, they allow pets to stay, and I am very sure my carpet had NOT been hoovered before my arrival as there were clumps of dog fur in places. I notice the thick dust on the wallpaper when I put the lamp on because it showed a hand print in it! Not nice, and I’m glad I hadn’t paid for this supposed upgraded room. The next morning I checked my bank account, to find that I had been debited double what I should have been and an additional random £50! £220 out of pocket! I rang reception to query this and I was told it would take 5 working days to return the overpayments to my account!! I was furious. I didn’t have time to deal with it right then as we all had to be somewhere important very early. I mentioned this to my father who then checked his account to see he had been deducted more than double and was over £400 out of pocket!! He hadn’t even produced his card at check-in, my mother did as she was paying. She said she would have to check hers later in the day. Low and behold she had been charged more than double too! We asked to speak to Luke as he had been so helpful, however he was not back to work until after our departure. The manager was less than helpful. I explained we were already there under rather stressful circumstances as it was and to have money taken without permission is appalling, and then to be told we all wouldn’t get our money back for 5 working days!! No explanation as to why this had happened!! We were pleased to be leaving on the third morning! Sorry this is all very long winded!! I should also mention, that in the eve of my second night I received I call from reception telling me I should not be I the room and checked out earlier that morning! I explained I am there for 3 nights of which this was my second! As if that wasn’t bad enough, a member of reception staff (male) then came into my room!! Didn’t knock, completely unannounced, let himself in and walked in!! I couldn’t believe it. It’s just as well I was half decent. He then said “oh this room is occupied then!” I said yes, I was dumbfounded! No apology, even when I reported it to reception the following morning! Then I was asked “did you enjoy your stay?!” To which I replied “no, all in all, it has been awful”. Hence my poor review! So if you like your money, stay elsewhere, if you like a clean room, stay elsewhere, if you like decent decor stay elsewhere, if you like good customer service stay elsewhere! You can now make a informed choice as to whether you want to stay here! Good luck! Collapse
