Another excellent stay. Whist I agree with some of the other comments about the whole hotel needing a bit of an upgrade, the rooms and all the public areas were very clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We were on the DBB package, and ate in the bar most evenings - much quieter, but still with a good selection of dishes. The location of this hotel is fantastic and it is lovely to be able to have so many good walks within a short distance. This hotel is marketed on being "family friendly" so guests should not be surprised that there are lots of young children here, particularly over weekends and bank holidays. Collapse

We chose this hotel only because we wanted to stay in a Hilton with spa facilities. Dreadful experience - the changing rooms were in a run down state and the hydrotherapy pool (which should at least be warm!!) was so cold I didn’t bother getting in. The whole pool and sauna area looked very dilapidated. Floor around pool partially carpeted - looked dirty. I’ve never seen such poor facilities in a hotel, particularly a Hilton. Our room had old looking carpet and furniture and the bathroom facilities were dated. My one star is for the the breakfast and dinner which were very good. Would not consider returning unless the hotel has a complete refit. Amazing that this hotel has the Hilton name. Has anyone from Hilton HQ inspected this place??? Collapse

Stayed 3 nights with 3 generations of family. We had holidayed there in the 70’s so was largely a trip down memory lane for grandparents. Location - wide range of activities available locally: ski sites, beach & water sports at Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilean walking and abundance of cycle paths. Amenities on site - swimming pool, children’s fun house, outdoor activity centre & Wood Shed Bar, playpark, nightly entertainment, Hotel corridors - oppressive & smelly! Bedrooms - clean but almost unbearably warm Family dining option in Inverdruie restaurant - great concept, terrible execution! Some very simple procedures could improve it hugely. No food cards on buffet - it’s always nice to know what you’re eating. Staff on hot plate & dessert section, although friendly, had limited English so couldn’t always explain what items were when asked. No-one seemed to be replenishing food on buffet. First night all sections (other than pizza) pretty much ran out of food at the same time. Second night uncooked fish put out when they were obviously rushing to replenish. Pasta dishes are unimaginative but fine, other main course hot food offering is (at best) average and most definitely not value for money. Not impressed. Wine list expensive - cheapest bottle of white wine in restaurant is £24.50. Traffic light system displayed peak times for breakfast - very helpful! Funhouse - Discounted residents charge for soft play £4. Reception staff very welcoming, Diner staff poorly trained (bins overflowing but staff stood stationary at till even when no customers at counter). Swimming pool - Slide for children only open on the hour for 20 minutes! Oddly timed adult swim times. Had to cut short our day out to get back in sufficient time for afternoon swim with slide! In Summary, hotel is located in beautiful area but it is tired, no visible management presence, staff disengaged, family food & beverage offering very badly executed. Such a pity as I really want to love the place (nostalgia kicking in) and it has excellent potential to be great hotel for families & those with love of outdoors. Collapse

My wife and I stayed at The Coylumbridge for 1 night. I noticed that there was a lot of families, in fact the hotel was rather busy, with mostly families, and children everywhere! Not very conducive for us, not having any Children. The only break that we had from this chaos was when there was an adults only time at the pool. 5pm until 6.30pm we had booked Dinner Bed and Breakfast. The Evening meal part was a set menu, in the main restaurant, if you wanted to go to the Bistro restaurant there was extra charges involved in this. We opted for the main restaurant, even at 8pm the restaurant was rammed with children! (I booked the restaurant at 8pm, thinking it would be quiet, wrong!) It was just too busy to actually relax and enjoy our meal. We did not have the same waiting staff. So after we ordered, random staff would just appear with our meals. This lack of continuity was very disconcerting and to make me even more on edge, the service was very slow, and the waiting staff did not seem to understand that the side plates need to be removed when you clear the mains, the side plates were still there when I was eating desert! Did you think I was going to ask for a bread roll with my desert?????????? I just wanted to eat and get out of there, but with the slow service and the chaos of Children running around unattended, it was enough to send any sane person over the edge! We had the Wood Pigeon to start with. This consisted of three small chunks of wood Pigeon with some sad looking Rocket Leaves. The first two pieces of Wood Pigeon was alright to eat, the third piece was too fresh for me. The “Salad” consisted of wilted rocket leaves, and frankly, it was a disappointment, it was so depressing, because it is a salad. How much effort would it have taken to slice up some red onion and served with fresh salad leaves, perhaps some croutons for some crunch ? The main course was Chicken in some creamy sauce. The vegetables consisted of 3 or 4 green beans wrapped in Parma ham. Not very big portion either. For desert I had the lemon tart. It was ok. The filling was a bit runny and it was like eating Lemon Curd. The breakfast was no better. Still overrun with Children. The breakfast items were a buffet arrangement, lots of shoving and jostling to get breakfast. We had finished our breakfast. My wife had a Coffee on the table and I had a tea, but the breakfast plates needed to be cleared. So we went back up to get some pastries and when we returned. A waitress was clearing our table! On the plus side. The beds were comfortable and I did have a nice sleep. The location is great as well, just before you go into Aviemore, there is a roundabout. Turn right and follow the signs to Coylumbridge. More a family orientated Hotel than a romantic getaway. Collapse
