I recently stayed at the Hilton Cape Town, over the New Year period, a mistake I will not make again. The hotel is located slap bang, in the centre of the Cape Town Minstrels Carnival event, which was, putting it mildly, absolute hell, as the event interrupted my sleep for no less than 3 nights of my trip, with a racket that was both extremely loud and verging on deafening. In addition, the noise was frenetic and repetitive in nature and access to the hotel during the event was cumbersome and quite risky, as there were huge crowds of people immediately outside and around the hotel entrance. The hotel claims to be a 5 star property and whilst the public areas appear to have undergone some renovation recently, the bedrooms are tired and most wood surfaces could do with a french polish as they are badly stained. Rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable enough. The service throughout is fair, staff are generally friendly and warm and the Hotel Management and Front Office Team are responsive and Guest focused, however, there are numerous challenges with Housekeeping and towel changes in particular which are patchy - the towels themselves are badly threadbare in some cases and should be taken out of circulation and used for rags. Smudge marks on the windows and lack of general attention to detail is evident and the turndown service is extremely basic for a '5 star' hotel. The daily call to prayer at 4 am is unavoidable because of the hotels location and whilst respectful of this, travellers should be aware of this fact, especially if they are light sleepers. Poolside Bar Service is poor and slow and on the one occasion that I ordered Room Service, it took so long that I cancelled the order. During my stay, the Hotels Owners and extended family appeared to be in residence and service in the Executive Lounge was poor as they were understaffed and the focus was clearly on taking care of the Owner/s & Family, whilst neglecting the rest of the Guests. In general i like Hilton Hotels, as you know what you will get. Unfortunately in this case or on that day I was quite disappointed of the Service. Nevertheless I want to clarify this comment is just about a snapshot of the Hotel and Service. The Hotel declares itself as a 5 Star Hotel. We arrived the at 2 p.m. The team at the reception informed us, that the room is not ready yet. But they offered us to wait in the executive lounge. Once the room will be ready, we would receive the information. After 30 minutes i asked again at the reception. Nothing changed. After another 30 minutes the same again. So we decided to walk a bit through the city instead of waiting. In this special case i would expect a clear message of the Hotel, when the room will be ready. Based on that we could plan, what to do with our time instead of waiting. At the end we received a twin bed room. The room itself was not that clean, like I would expect in a Hotel. After a short conversation at the reception we received another room. King bed, nice bathroom. All good. As we had an appointment for a dinner, we asked one hour before the concierge, to arrange a Taxi. He recommended 15 min pick up before the dinner start. Unfortunately the taxi never arrived. The concierge apologized, and mentioned the taxi company confirmed and he cannot do more. I informed him, that we want to start our dinner in time and what he wants to do for it. After another call to the taxi company he came with the proposal to us, we could use the driver of the Hotel, but he has to charge it on our room. We explained him this solution is not ok for us. So he confirmed the Hotel would take care of the costs. Maybe it was simply a bad day and a lot of things went wrong in the same time. Nevertheless the way of Service has possibilities for improvement, at least on that day. Collapse

We found the hotel staff very helpful, the rooms were large enough and very comfortable. We had a good view from our rooms overlooking the mountains. It was central enough, not far from the Waterfront. We used the free service provided by the hotel to be taken to the Waterfront, could not use it to return as we stayed late and missed the last pickup for return. The breakfast catered for every taste and there was plenty of it, highly recommend the breakfast. I did find the hairdryer not working, so changed it with a family member in another room and reported it to the hotel staff. Would use this hotel again. Collapse

My wife and I recently spent part of our 10th Anniversary at this hotel. We had a fantastic experience, made all the better by the wonderfully attentive staff, especially Duty Manager, Ailsa Walker who went out of her way to ensure we had an amazing stay. She even booked a restaurant for us in Knysna, as she knew we were doing some travelling around the Garden Route!! In addition, the executive lounge was great as was the room we had. all in all an unforgettable experience and we would highly recommend staying again in the future Collapse
I stayed at the hotel every month, often twice, for the whole of 2018. My comments follow below;

I rate the hotel very highly as follows: - Wonderful, friendly, staff. Really make me feel ‘at home’. 5-star treatment!; - Good facilities & location; - Big, clean rooms; - Breakfasts are fantastic. As is the Hilton Honors lounge for those able to access it. I would thus highly recommend it! Only negatives: 1. Early morning mosque tends to wake one, 2. Traffic to/from the hotel can be bad ie. Bit grid-locked, 3. Fitness center on site not great bit close proximity to excellent ones, 4. Some of the infrastructure is a bit old & hence some rooms can be a little noisy. Collapse
