The hotel staff were excellent from start to finish and we were very pleased with the quality of our room. However, we were disappointed with the limited dinner menu - although the food was o.k. it certainly was uninspiring - basically chicken and chips, burger, steak, risotto and one fish dish. On our second night we were unable to find a chair to sit on in the bar before dinner as a wedding party completely filled it leaving no room for other residents. We would certainly use this hotel again but will check to see if there is a wedding on during future stays. Collapse

Stayed here recently for a weekend trip to Oxford. On pulling up to the hotel i felt quite disappointed at how run down it looked plus there was a huge skip/rubble and builders fencing near the front entrance. It all looked very untidy as a first impression. The main reception area was decorated well and the staff were friendly and efficient. The main part of the hotel is still quite tired and felt a bit run down. That became the general feel of the place. It just needs an injection of care/freshning up. Our mattress also wasnt brilliant, you rolled towards the middle. We unfortunately stayed on the same weekend as an event. You could hear and feel the bass of the music below around 10.30 at night. Thankfully it didnt keep us awake but i imagine if you were a light sleeper it would be worth finding out if a party/event is booked and ask for a room not close to /above. The hotel is by no means terrible but Oxford isnt a cheap option and i dont feel the price we paid reflected the hotel we got. It is however ideal for travelling into Oxford centre. The frequent bus into town is only a few minutes walk away and £7 return for 2 adults was fine. Hopefully once refurbished it will pick up as it has potential to be a nice place, just not yet. Have just stayed here for one night - thank goodness it wasn't for two! There's nothing actually factually inaccurate about their website but it's all a bit tired and shabby when you get there. In our room the curtains were stained, plaster was cracked, lampshade had burn marks and the lamp was so hot we didn't like to leave it on, the window was held shut with a badly installed bathroom bolt, a vent on the window was smashed off, the curtains didn't actually meet in the middle without major persuasion, bathroom door didn't close properly, the loo roll holder was clinging on to the wall at a very jaunty angle and the basin tap wobbled at the slightest touch! Nothing dreadful but certainly not what we expected. The room descriptions on the website state "Luxurious duvet, plump pillows & crisp cotton..." but our pillows were certainly not plump (my back and neck are still aching) and I think their idea of luxurious is very far from mine. It's all very well to say that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment but it's going to take a lot more than a face lift to sort this one out. To be fair, we didn't complain at the hotel because we didn't want to spoil our weekend with an argument and because friends who complained about their treatment by staff that same night didn't get a particularly good response so we decided it wasn't worth the effort. Not impressed one bit and wondering how it manages to make 4 bubbles on this website! Collapse

We stayed here with secret escapes. I emailed ahead of my stay to ensure that the booking was there as I've read that the booking doesn't go through. The responded quite quickly saying the booking was there. When we went to the hotel (which was under renovation) it was clear how to get to the reception although the parking was limited surprisingly. When we went to the reception the lady behind the counter was very quick on getting us checked in. In the room we were greeted to a spacious warm room which was lovely because the weather was terrible, so it was nice to come into a room which was warm. We had afternoon tea which was lovely the table was set up very nicely and the scones were warm with cream and jam. We had room service for breakfast which was nice, although they had missed a few items of the order but the food was nice and was warm. Check out was quick as well. Overall I wouI'd recommend this hotel. Very pleasant stay. Collapse

Went over the Easter Bank Holiday-good Friday to Easter Sunday. The staff were amazing. The hotel is under some refurbishment at the moment. But they couldn’t have been nicer. Our TV didn’t work at all. But they changed rooms for us the following day and nothing was too much trouble. They obviously have a very good team and made us feel very welcome. They had a large Wedding on as well. But this did not impact on our stay. Good luck to them all. I will definitely stay again. A little outside Oxford. But lovely clean comfortable rooms amazing value for the money which includes a full English breakfast too! Collapse
