Hatton Court is a ‘Contemporary country house with the Cotswolds warmest welcome’ Set high on an escarpment overlooking the Severn Vale this 45 bedroom country house hotel lies between the Cathedral City of Gloucester and Regency Cheltenham. Hatton Court provides the right balance between traditional hotel service and all the benefits you would expect from a contemporary hotel. The Tara Restaurant is renowned locally. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Cotswolds. Hatton Court is a reassuring size; not large and impersonal, nor too small. As a former splendid Cotswold home the feeling is of being eminently comfortable as opposed to grand, nothing is hurried. The reception is very much a lounge, with leather sofas, magazines and an open fireplace for those chillier days. Next door the bar is more a place to relax, take tea, read and talk than to rush. The care taken to prepare the food, combined with a smiling service, is complemented by the thought that has gone into creating the Tara Restaurant. Natural colours and soft lighting make a relaxing environment for friends and relations to enjoy each other’s company. Private dining facilities are available in the equally well appointed Cotswold Room. The peace of the surrounding countryside and comfortable bedrooms, some with whirlpool baths, make for a good night’s sleep ready for another day exploring the Cotswolds.

After dealing with the previous wedding organiser I was very worried about how our day would go as she knew next to nothing about our "wedding vision". After the first meeting with Natasha a massive weight was lifted from our shoulders, I finally found someone that appreciated my obsessively organised file and massive list of questions. Nothing was never too much trouble. Whilst still learning the ropes Natasha managed to go above and beyond, if she didn't know the answer she would find someone that did. The wedding day swiftly came along, and Natasha arrived with a smile, which instantly relaxed me, and she promised everything was in hand, which it definitely was!! Every little detail I dreamed of was certainly met. Tom was also great and managed to keep me calm whilst waiting to go into the ceremony and throughout the day, making sure I always had a drink in hand.! Nothing was never too much trouble for either of them and they stayed with us all day ensuring everything ran smoothly. I honestly have no regrets and had the best day possible!! Thank you will never be enough for your hard work and all your efforts, you two really make a fantastic team and Hatton Court are very lucky to have you!! Mrs Blackmore x Collapse

I stayed here recently for a night for a stop over. Having arrived with the wife and baby very late, the check in was smooth and even they took the liberty of warming up the baby's milk. The room is a of a good size and the bed comfortable. I understand why other reviews state that it needs updating etc. The breakfast in the morning was very good as well. Generally a comfortable stay and easy check out. Collapse

Stayed last Saturday night after attending a wedding close by. The room was adequate but in need of some refurbishing. The breakfast was way below par, I ordered kippers which was a £2 supplement and when they arrived, they were so small that they wouldn't have fed a sparrow! My wife ordered a sausage, 2 poached eggs and well done tomatoes, when it arrived it was sent back for the tomatoes to be cooked and when it arrived back the tomatoes were cooked but the rest was cold! We stayed here last night and although it was a beautiful building with an elegant style, improvements are seriously needed. Room 7 in particular, stunk from a revoltingly over powering smell, whilst Room 6 had an incredibly creaky floor as well as bed. Even as we entered the hotel there too, was a distinct musty smell. Neither room had hot water for showering at 7am. We were told that a large tour group had left that morning but still that's no excuse. Breakfast was good with attentive staff. Sadly very disappointing experience considering its beautiful grounds. Afraid we won't be staying here again. Collapse

On arrival the hotel was in the midst of a wedding reception which seems to one of the main problems these days for someone wanting a quiet weekend away, however apart from a large number of people mulling around outside it in no way affected service in the hotel and bar as check in and a welcoming drink in the bar allowed us to relax into our weekend. Although this is stated as a 45 room hotel we stayed in room 50 at the top far-end of the annex, despite the almost total lack of WiFi this was quite pleasant room well equipped with reasonable views and far enough away from the main hotel to be quiet. One point to mention at this point is that some rooms do require you to climb almost 4 flights of stairs to access them. Breakfast was a average affair for this type of hotel, however as this hotel restaurant sets itself some what apart with its “ The Tara Restaurant” branding it was disappointing on the first day breakfast which was cooked to order was a definite long wait with what seems like poorly trained staff unable to cope. However on complaining to a very helpful member of staff who I think was called Jackie our complaints seemed to be taken seriously by both her and the duty manager she summoned, breakfast on our second day was hot, well cooked and served with efficiency, a great improvement. Owing to the hotels relative isolated location we did book into the restaurant on both nights of our stay however as the restaurant try’s to brand itself as a separate entity it seems fair too review that under its own listing enough to say at this stage is that the distance to other eateries my be worth overcoming. As for the hotel generally a reasonable place with comfortable rooms, a welcoming atmosphere and pleasant staff who acted very well to complains and resolved the issue quickly. One strange point I found is either I am getting extremely weak in my old age or the hot water taps in the gents toilets next to the bar seemed to be unconnected, hot water in the toilets please. The important point is would I stay again. Quite possibly. Collapse
