Following major refurbishment, this formerly moated residence provides all the comfort and luxury expected of a modern county house whilst retaining its historic heritage and charm. The manor has 50 newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms including executive rooms, suites and four-poster bedrooms, all of which are non-smoking. The Dewinton Restaurant with its oak beams and appealing décor is a delightful dining room with a vast menu of interesting and tasty dishes. The gardens and fields lend themselves to outdoor pursuits and there is a 9 and 18 hole golf course just 1 mile away (discounted green fees for hotel guests are available.) Supposed to be a nice night away to celebrate new jobs, however, it left an awful lot to be desired. The hotel itself is set in a nice location, but that’s probably the best thing about it. Upon arrival we tried to check in, however, the receptionist gave the vibe that she couldn’t be bothered to deal with us. After checking in we went to our room, little bit confusing on finding it as there are no signs. Got to the room, whilst it looked somewhat like the pictures on booking.com it felt very small. It was also confusing trying to find things like the welcome pack and tea and coffee facilities etc as they were hidden away in draws/cupboards. The bathroom was an okay size, although, the extractor didn’t work. Whilst the communal areas of the hotel were nice, the room and the bathroom felt a bit dated and needed a little tlc. For the most part cleanliness was okay, we did however move the tv forward to find that the cabinet it was on had only be cleaned around the tv. Seriously struggle to understand how our room was part of a 4* establishment, single ply toilet paper, rough bedding, thin hard pillows (that resulted in neck ache) and worst of all, NO SOUNDPROOFING. I expect in the morning to perhaps here housekeeping carts in the hallway, but I don’t expect to hear the rooms around me and their occupants conversations. Whenever a neighbouring rooms taps were used, we could hear it, whenever their toilets flushed we could hear it. The soundproofing was so bad I said to my partner in our room that the soundproofing was awful and from the room next to ours I actually heard the other guest say “I know, it’s awful”. We didn’t eat dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, we did have breakfast there though. I wasn’t expecting a, lukewarm at best, buffet. The ‘hot’ food was in some cases cold. I also felt sorry for what seemed like the manager as it didn’t appear that his staff really had a clue what was going on. Although rosettes are not awarded based on the quality of a breakfast, if they can’t do that well, I don’t have a clue how the quality of dinner can reach to rosette standard. In summary: - Good location, nice views and easy to get to Cheltenham - Poor small room with no soundproofing - No finesse, single ply toilet paper, rough bedding, poor pillow choice - Poor mediocre breakfast - Dogs are welcome at this hotel and can stay, for me not an issue as dog lover, for others may be an issue. Not sure how they ensure rooms are adequate for those with allergies - Unsure on wheelchair friendliness, did not see an elevator and upper corridors had steps throughout Would I recommend? No, definitely not worth it for the reasons stated above and to be honest it’s quite shocking that the hotel has been awarded 4* status. I think status was given due to the spa due to open this month, that appears to be under construction still. Collapse

A beautiful building, but I was extremely disappointed with the whole of the catering. There was confusion as to where to go, then a gentleman arrived and politely showed us down a number of corridors to a large room set with one big table set only with two jugs of juice and water. We were told food would be on a table out in the adjoining corridor. After requesting tea/coffee and were taken again through corridors to a small, cold room with seating where we waited for flasks to arrive. We then returned to the dining room where a table in the corridor was now carrying a very poor selection of salads and two cold meats with some bowls of fruit salad and a small plate of mini cheesecakes. A vegetarian friend was unable to find anything suitable, so chose a fruit salad and was told “those are for deserts” quite rudely. Again we had to request tea/coffee. It was a difficult time, so as quests we did not complain to avoid upsetting the hosts. I certainly won’t be going there again if I am in the area. Collapse

Pleasant display of breakfast items. Seated at a table and offered tea, coffee and toast. Waited over 15 mins for someone to come and take our hot order. It took another 15 mins or so to arrive. Ordered porridge for my father-in-law which was, cold, raw and inedible. He followed this with the toast served with coffee which was cold and soggy and also unpleasant to eat. My breakfast was a cold poached egg, a nice piece of fried bread and five rashers of bacon all stuck together and cooked only on one side. My husband says his scrambled egg was nice but he had same issue with his bacon. The breakfast which we assumed was being cooked to order was a disappointment. This was all made somewhat worse by being sat right next to door to clear up kitchen through which staff were constantly squeezing past my husband to get in and out of. This was not the expected quality of a four star hotel breakfast and did not reflect the price being charged. We ate in restaurant last night which was very nice and have booked to eat there again tonight. Our rooms are pleasant and the staff are lovely. It has not, however been the extra special weekend in a Spa hotel that we booked for my parents in law as a Christmas present. (We did not realise until we arrived that the Spa area is new and does not open until May. This was not made clear at time of booking.) Collapse
