I traveled with my husband and teenager and we booked a King Study room. We searched for a hotel that offered more than just double beds, so we were pleased to find this room with a King bed and large sleeper sofa. For NYC, the room was very spacious, however, we did have to move a few things around in order to successfully open the sleeper sofa. When opened, the sleeper completed touched the entire side of the King bed, so there was no space between them on that side. But still, not a huge inconvenience for the nice size room so close to Times Square. This hotel was within close walking distance to the subway, and 8th Avenue has a lot of shops. The free breakfast was essential to keeping our budget under control, and it allowed us to fuel up before heading out for the day and kept us satisfied until dinner. The daily hot breakfast buffet offered coffee, tea, juices, toast, make your own waffle station, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, and hot meats and eggs that changed daily. This Hampton also had a very spacious eating area, which it needs given the popularity of this hotel. Getting to breakfast early is key if you want to avoid the crowds. We read this online ahead of time and planned accordingly and were glad we did. The later you go to breakfast, the more crowded it will be. The few times we sought assistance from the concierge and front desk staff, our experience was fair, but the bell staff was excellent in helping us to get taxis when needed, and arrange transportation to the airport on our last day. It is beneficial to arrange a car service to the airport when departing as it is a fixed rate. While taxis are fixed rate FROM the airports to the city, they are on the meter going back to the airports. (Another tidbit we learned from the bell staff and were grateful.) We enjoyed our own private, air conditioned ride to JFK right from the hotel with a set rate from the start. Overall, we recommend this property for its proximity to Times Square, Rockefeller Center and the Theater District. We would stay here again. Collapse

On the hottest day of July my group were scheduled to visit three different tea emporiums ending at a beautiful hotel for afternoon tea. It was important to me that my friends and I had a place to freshen up before the tea on Monday and that is what prompted me to book HIMTSN for a Sunday overnight stay. It proved to be a good decision. Even though it was a bit warm and humid when we hit the pavement outside Penn Station on Sunday, we opted to make the mile walk to our hotel to loosen up our limbs after the four-hour train ride. It was an easy stroll right up eighth and soon our hotel was in sight. As I checked in, I realized I'd stayed at the hotel previously and remembered loving its location and ambience. We dumped our bags with the bellman and crossed the street to the Cosmic Diner for brunch. Great choice. From there we ambled around the area dropping into MOMA, St. Pat's and Saks and generally having a fine time taking in the sights. By the time we returned, our room was ready so we grabbed tea and an apple and headed up to the eighth floor. We'd booked a two queens room and it was perfect. Lots of space and very quiet. We chatted and caught a cat nap before setting out for the evening, finding many interesting diversions within easy walking distance. Back in our room following dinner, we were soon ready to settle in for the night. Right to sleep. Our beds were very comfortable and I awoke refreshed. I was up before the others so I slipped down to the lobby to read the news and enjoy a coffee. I enjoyed chatting with others who were setting out for the day. By the time I returned, everyone else was up and showered so they went to their included breakfast while I prepared for the day. We all laid out what we'd need to make our quick change for a dressy tea and set out on our adventure. Just before noon we arrived back at the hotel to change and freshen up and grab our bags to take with us in a cab to go to our tea, feeling not at all wilted. One note: the breakfast room was a mob scene after 9:30 so I'd recommend an early time. There's a nice feeling about HIMTSN. Staff are nice and everyone seems to enjoy their jobs. No attitude or negativity. Highly recommend. Collapse

I've traveled to NYC for decades and this was my first time at the Hampton Inn. I was by myself for some medical appointments and wanted a convenient, safe location. First, the rooms are huge by NYC standards. My king bedroom was easily twice the size of other places I've stayed. The room, while old and needing new furniture, was comfortable and had everything I needed. Kudos to the cleaning staff. They honored my request not to be bothered, yet had the room spotless whenever I returned. I walked to Broadway shows or the movies each night and felt perfectly safe. Appreciate my room away from the street which was perfectly quiet 24/7. The breakfast was typical and adequate. Coffee and tea station in the lobby was great. Be sure to try the outstanding Mariella Pizza on 8th around 57th Street. Collapse
