Well if you want lovely friendly helpful people - stay at this hotel. We have never stayed at hotel with such lovely staff they are amazing. The hotel is very close to Stansted Airport so you do get plane noisy but the hotel surroundings and general atmosphere make up for this. We were staying here for two nights on business but if you need a hotel near the Aurport this is a 10 star place. Thank you for a lovely stay and the poached eggs were divine yours Jacky & Greville Collapse

I organised a Hen Weekend at Gt Hallinbury Manor for my Best Friend and it was amazing! The venue was gorgeous, the food was amazing and the staff were fantastic! We had afternoon Tea and cocktail making and the staff helped decorate the hotel and they went the extra mile to make it a special weekend. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for functions, weddings or just to get away for the weekend. There was 23 of us in our group and we will all definitely go back! Collapse

After recent reviews I was incredibly worried about staying at this hotel. I know others will feel same so will break down our stay to illustrate where hotel was a success and maybe things to consider. Hotel was easy to find and has car parking at rear. Car park signage is poor IGNORE sign on right drive by the pick up /drop off entrance a “gate” and look left - it’s an unmarked small entrance just after hotel. Very easy to miss! If driving in at night be careful of the many bunnies out in the grounds and in the road. We booked a Superior room (Room 23). It didn’t cost much more than a standard room. (we stayed 20/21 April 2018). The room was in an updated part of the actual hotel which was lovely to be in and was a very comfortable clean room. Positives: Large comfortable bed. Large/open room with table and two chairs and ample wardrobe space. Good mirror in bedroom. Rainfall walk-in shower in ensuite. bathroom. Minibar and well stocked tea and coffee with a good kettle. Our room was made-up on our return from first day out very neatly and with supplies/towels replenished. Negatives: No air conditioning (it’s a wonderful old building) but also no fan. The room was stifling in the weekend heat. Fan in bathroom wasn’t working. Shower goes hot when other rooms use water or someone turns on the sink tap (ouch). Shower door opening is quite narrow. Planes: The planes do fly very close overhead (landing and taking off) so yes there is noise from aircraft (to be expected). There were NO complimentary ear plugs in our room; we had brought our own but in this room we felt the noise wasn’t loud enough for us to use them. Planes stopped around 12:30am and started again about 5am. We slept soundly through the night and quickly got used to aircraft flying over. Food: We ate breakfast at hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed both days not fatty cooking - great full english breakfast choices as well as fruit, cereal, deli meat and cheese and juice/tea coffee. There were more people taking breakfast Sunday morning and the kitchen did seem to struggle a little more to cope with food replenishing demands BUT when it arrived, it didn’t affect quality of food! The views from restaurant onto the lakeside were picturesque and probably enhanced by the sunshine that we’ve had this weekend! There are a number of deep/wide shallow steps down from/to car park to restaurant so if you’re unable to use steps there is a more accessible path from car park to reception. The staff in all parts of the hotel we’re fabulous from the girl on reception at check-in through to dining and check-out. Staff would jump to meet/greet us as we appeared late at night asking if we needed assistance checking in etc. Friendly and helpful, we felt very welcome. Based on our experience this weekend in room 23 I wouldn’t hesitate to book again! Collapse

We stayed at this hotel with two young children, my husband and I, it was the night before we left for holiday and I didn't feel too well . It was clean and staff was friendly . The noise from aeroplanes is real and you might as well be outside and I couldn't sleep. At 6.30 am the hotel staff was playing loud music in the dinning area and I was so annoyed after a terrible night with both kids waking up due to noise , we were all up again . The chocolates and water is way too over priced ! More than a 100% percent profit , it's ridiculous. Kit Kat for £1.95 , like seriously?????? We were so exhausted the next morning and had to travel feeling like we were partying all night . Kids were all exhausted irritable ! No need for loud music at 6am ! Collapse
