This is the number at least 15 that I’ve stayed in this hotel. Two things remain unchanged: 1. Poor service, unprofessional and lacking discipline and the sense of feeling the importance of detail. 2. Rooms are so poor to the point that haven’t been renovated probably before I was born...and am not even young In short...since it is one of few 5 stars hotel in the city of Muscat, they are just taking guests for granted! Beware! Collapse

At almost every point in our 4-day stay at the Grand Hyatt Muscat we were made to feel unwelcome. As we were part of a large group of parents attending a high school football tournament, we were advised to book our room via email with a special code. After one week of waiting for a reply to my email, I had to call the hotel and get someone to help me. We finally booked and paid for our room 3 weeks in advance, received a confirmation, completed the "Online Confirmation" the day of our arrival, and gave the time we would be arriving. The hotel confirmed our Online Confirmation and replied that our "room was ready." That evening when we arrived, they didn't have our room. It was not only not "ready", they didn't even have the room we requested that had been confirmed - twice. While a trainee waltzed us around the hotel at 12:30 am showing us one room after another, we finally took a substandard room just to get some sleep. The next day all was miraculously resolved and we got the room we had reserved in the first place, but there were no bath towels for the much-needed shower we were looking forward to. Needless to say, our first night and day in the hotel were a complete waste and anything but relaxing. The good stuff is that this is a lovely hotel with beds so comfortable you many never want to leave your room, a view to die for, and a beautiful pool. The housekeeping staff are very good and are trying their best to get you everything you need. The bath towels were a one-off issue. The Club Lounge was wonderful with delicious light food served during the cocktail hour every evening, and a very good continental breakfast every morning. Unfortunately, the two Filopinas working the breakfast shift were so unfriendly and slightly rude, it made an otherwise nice breakfast much less so. On the last night of our stay our room/club keys were deleted which meant an uncomfortable scene at the club and a trip to reception to get our keys reactivated. Come on! These are rookie errors that add to the impression that the management of this hotel is not doing his/her job very well. The icing on the cake came on our last day when we had no internet service for 6+ hours. Call after call to Guest Services we were told that the internet was not working (really?) and that the tech team would have it up again soon. After 6 hours of waiting, we decided to check out of the hotel and end our stay for good. As we were checking out we saw armed guards around the hotel, metal detectors at the entrance, and people laying cable. One of the guards confirmed that the internet had been taken down intentionally for some important event and that we had been lied to by the hotel staff. Personally, after 20+ years of living in the ME, the truth would have gone down much better than being lied to. We've seen it all, but a little honesty from the staff and some sort of compensation for this inconvenience would have been appreciated. Nothing! While checking out, Kevin at reception did not even have the courtesy to ask us about our stay, if we had enjoyed the hotel, or had any feedback for them. We got not even a thank you for staying at the Grand Hyatt Muscat. As a single incident, none of these issues would have tainted our impression of this hotel. In total, however, a beautiful and comfortable hotel can never overcome very poor, rude, unfriendly, or disappointing service from nearly every department in the Grand Hyatt. There are too many really superb hotels in Muscat to give this one another chance. Collapse

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a business trip to Muscat. As a treat we booked a Club Suite which gave us access to the Club Lounge. The entrance lobby is breathtaking with beautiful over the top decor including statues, fountains, gold. Our room was brilliant with a huge bedroom, lovely marble bathroom with bath and separate shower, a large living room with vouches , to and desk, and a separate guest toilet. We had a nice view over the gardens towards the ocean. The hotel is right beside the sea. There is a lovely endless public beach, with grassy areas and a pavement going a long way. The hotel is situated in the embassy area so it felt nice and relaxed ( all areas of Muscat felt safe ). There was a great atmosphere with families and groups having picnics and barbecues, and playing games on the beach. I liked that the hotel was not completely separated from normal life. The restaurants were pretty nice. We ate at the Safari Grill n our first night, and the Marjan pool restaurants on the other nights. Obviously it's a 5 star hotel so it's not cheap but prices seemed fair as there were good value dining packages which included several courses plus unlimited wine/ beer/ soft drinks or the same plus spirits. Mostly South African wine with a choice of grape type. We had access to the Club Lounge which was very nice. It was the biggest lounge we have ever seen, with a large outdoor terrace. We had our breakfast there and there was a nice buffet, with eggs cooked to order. During the day it was very quiet, but it was nice to pop in for soft drinks and coffee. At night there is a drinks service from 6 - 8 pm with hot and cold nibbles. It was lovely sitting on the terrace watching the sun set over the mountains , having a cold drink while my husband smoked. The hostesses are delightful and service was great. All the ladies were charming and efficient particularly Melchora who was very good at remembering names. The hotel facilities are very good. The pool area was lovely. The gym was very well equipped, with fresh towels and water on each machine. There are a lot of staff, and they try very hard to anticipate your requirements. I thought I had a problem with late delivery of laundry items but when I chased it up it turned out they had been returned the same day, but folded in a basket which had been placed on a shelf at the top of the wardrobe ( I simply didn't know that's what the basket was ! ). We had a wonderful time here. However my only slight issue is that the hotel has quite a confusing layout and initially it was hard to find my way around. Reception is on level 3 so when I checked in I was directed in a direction for the lifts to take me to a lower level fir my room. I was told the middle lifts, but simply couldn't find the. There were lots of lifts , mostly for staff so I gave up and went down the stairs . It turned out the lifts for my wing were a long walk along the corridor. Again the Club Loung is on the 4th level, with a bit of a walk and then an extra set of stairs. Signage is discreet, but not always informative. Even on the third night , I couldn't find the toilets I'd used the previous evening. So it would be useful to be given a floor plan on check in so you can judge distances and locations. We loved our stay here and would come back in an instant. Collapse

Stayed in Grand Hyatt Muscat with my partner. From the moment we walked into the reception area we knew we had made the right decision to choose this hotel. Grand is not a descriptive enough word to get over how good it is/was. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was excellent in regards to size, facilities and views. The gym was best equipped and used in hotels I’ve stayed in. The pool areas were clean plenty of sun loungers to enjoy the weather. Poolside bar had great choices Yannick and Kamal were in particular brilliant in their customer service. Can’t wait to return. Collapse

We stayed for 3 nights on the way through to Sri Lanka. The Hyatt is as you would expect, huge, totally over the top decor - as you would expect from a hotel of this type (lots of conferences), built in the earlier days of tourism in Oman - perhaps early 90's. While everything is beautifully clean and well maintained, the atmosphere does now feel a little dated. Impersonal, again as you would expect. The pool area is pretty cramped and the pool suitable for dips, but not for serious length swimming, if that is your thing. There is an enclosed garden by the beach (can't see the sea while lying on your lounger), but you feel more comfortable here in your bikini than at the pool, where all the pool staff are young men. I personally felt uncomfortable poolside, but plenty of women were lying about in bikinis. Women have to be covered on the beach, so that is not a draw here. The pool restaurant was nice for a drink, though as everywhere in Oman in the hotels, eye-waveringly expensive. Breakfast was excellent, as was the service everywhere in the hotel. The room was well-serviced, spotlessly clean and everything worked as it should - extremely comfortable bed and pillows. We ate in the Safari Restaurant (above the Safari pub/bar). Good meat/fish and all inclusive of wine/beer, a starter salad from the salad bar, two side dishes and dessert - so good value. Good ambience also. Busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so advisable to book. We wouldn't stay again - we'd choose a smaller, contemporary-styled hotel, like The Chedi. Collapse
