Stay here if you don’t mind truly terrible service

As a repeat customer of the Grand Beach Surfside, I am stunned to see how a pretty solid hotel has simply gone off a cliff in terms of service. Simply put, I couldn’t get my room cleaned and kept getting the run around when I asked for the problem to be addressed (ie, clean my room!!). Over my 4 day stay they failed to clean my room on 2 different days. This was after repeatedly calling the front desk, speaking with numerous housekeepers, calling housekeeping many times, speaking with various managers, etc. There is not a single person who works at this hotel who provided good service - I begged well over 10 different employees to help me handle this simple problem. Do yourself a favor and stay at another nearby hotel if you want a clean room or go with an AirBnB or VRBO if you don’t mind cleaning up/making your bed while on vacation. Collapse
Horrible front desk and management

Nice facility BUT management and the folks who staff the front desk are truly horrible. Worst service I’ve had at a hotel by far, and this is including barebones motels. It’s a shame because the location and rooms are nice.

We stayed for 4 nights in February and were happy with our stay. The price did not match the service, but did match the location. Nothing was necessarily “bad,” but the service in general was average. Independent of this was the rooftop bar and pool area. Our bartender Kal was outstanding. He was personable and customer oriented without appearing fake, but rather genuine. I would say his service on night one made my wife and I return to the bar on the following nights of our stay for a night cap, and would plan on returning again. Thank you Kal for exceeding our expectations! Collapse

Well my husband and I decided to spend our honeymoon at this hotel particularly because there's many memories we share here. We are leaving tomorrow morning and must say we had many good experiences and well some we weren't too happy with. Im pregnant so I wanted certain stuffs to be done correctly. Our server was beyond rude and seemed to have had a terrible day, she gave us that impact the whole time. Brook. We felt like it was better to walk inside and grab drinks ourselves and decided to have lunch at the restaurant. Terrible!!!! What a different ambience, Treat and even hospitality our server Hanna was amazing. We will be back just for her ! Overall the hotel was clean and very happy with our room. View was right in front of the beach and I couldn't be any happier. Room service was accurate and food was excellent. They need to change some staff members and they will be just fine other than that this hotel is amazing ... Collapse

Can’t speak highly enough about his hotel, it was wonderful and if we ever go back to Miami, it will certainly be top of our list. We were in room 1184 and the views were stunning. When booking you need to be careful of what side you book. We had city view which has the sunset, the sea view has the sunrise, but the unspecified rooms are at the sides and you just look straight into the buildings next door. Its the first time we have had a room with two TVs, two showers and two toilets, it was more like a mini apartment. It didn’t have a kitchen but had a fridge and tea/coffee making stuff was there. If you walk to the next street that runs parallel (Harding Ave) there are a number of restaurants and a couple of supermarkets, Publix is the closest and CVS is a little further along. I would highly recommend Flannigan’s restaurant, absolutely superb ribs! If I had to make a complaint about the room, it’s that it did not have drawers and had very little hanging space. Although there are 2 double wardrobes, half of one was locked as it houses the AC unit (which was so quiet we didn’t know it was there but when you go onto the balcony you can feel the heat from the vent). The other half of that wardrobe had the safe in, so there was only half of the half a wardrobe for hanging. No drawers in the bedside cabinets either which is a rarity. The restaurant is recommended for all meals. We found the prices quite comparative to some of the restaurants outside but the pleasant views of sitting on the patio looking out to sea through the palm trees was idyllic. The beach is literally a stone’s throw and once on the beach they supply you with a sunbed and umbrella but the daily resort fee is quite high – although comparable to other local hotels. Beach towels are available from the pool area. Waiter service is available on the beach but at a cost. Collins Ave is approx. 13 miles long and is quite a way from South Beach. We hired a car for 3 days and I have to say, it is well worth it if you want to see any of Miami. It’s valet parking only at the hotel and it is expensive but, again, that’s the norm in Miami but there are one or two public car parks nearby. Highly recommend the Wynwood Walls as well as Bayside Marketplace and of course a stroll along South Beach to see the art deco buildings is a must. We would say though be careful of the road tolls. They are rather clever in that you don’t actually know you are going through a toll because there are no booths but your registration plate is photographed and then you get charged on the credit card. We were a bit extravagant using the car (we drove to the Everglades one day and Key West the next) and ended up with a $40 toll charge. Collapse
