The location and setting, the outstanding service, and the communal areas of this gorgeous hotel are no doubt 5*. Reception staff are mostly warm, inviting and personally show you around the hotel when you arrive. Any request we made for (i.e.) dinner reservations, taxis, laundry service were met with a polite 'consider it done' and it was ... with speed and low key efficiency in most cases. The bar staff especially friendly and welcoming, with the snacks served in the bar area ('le Bar') being tasty. As we found with much of Italy, food isn't the expense here, it's the drink prices that creep up the bill! To sit and watch the bay of Naples from this hilltop retreat was just lovely. The pool was just gorgeous, a small infinity pool with about 18 or 20 sumptious sun loungers around it. It's pretty special! The restaurant was much as you would expect for a high class establishment, beautiful views, food graciously presented, white linen everywhere and super efficient, discreet staff who ensure your glass doesn't ever go empty. They also threw in a couple of extra courses - an amuse bouche, a palate cleanser and some delicious peit fours at the end. The wine list was extensive and we managed to get a bottle on our second attempt (they didn't have our first choice). It's the bedrooms here that we struggled to distinguish as a 5* hotel although given this is an old Roma villa conversion, I assume it's a little bit restricted on what can be done with layout. The pros and cons (of our superior sea view room, in our opinion of a 5* hotel): PROS Clean Nice view of the bay of Naples and Vesuvius Gorgeous tiled floor Lovely fluffy robes and plenty of towels provided Air conditioning CONS Room size was small King size bed appeared to be two beds joined together - there was definately a divide of some description down the middle We could only find one useable plug socket for our appliances in the entire room The bathroom was perfectly functionable but the fittings were tired and in need of descaling Toiletries were a bit of a let down It's not that we didn't have a brilliant stay because we definitely did, I guess we just expected something a little bit special across the ENTIRE hotel for the 5* rating. FYI - the hotel didn't appear to be able to source a local taxi service for us for basic travel around the location, all was done with a local private firm - at 4 times the cost! (Despite a number of conversations with reception staff to try and get a cheaper option). I'd consider sourcing local transport yourself. Collapse

First of all: It IS a very nice hotel with a stunning view. Not nice neighbourarea, but nice hotel... Friendly staff. Nice rooms with well working wifi and comfy beds. Nice pool area. Also, always good restaurant recommendations from the staff. Nice with shuttle service. But, sorry but I have to say: Thats it. First: When we arrived the bathroom was not clean. Long, black hairs on toilet and walls! Also seal broke on the shampoo. Expensive, average food in the bar and tiny, expensive drinks. And, for the first time in my life - and at a hotel - i've experienced that the hotel wants you to PAY for scrambled eggs at breakfast, when you already have breakfast included in your stay! (it was free last time we visited the hotel - in 2015) No BIG deal - I can manage the 6-8 euros, but thats not good at all. You feel they are chasing your money...Then, one night we wanted to sit on our balcony and relax with a local wine and prosciutto. Not for saving the money, but for relaxing and enjoying local food/wine. The staff advised us there is no outside food or drink allowed in the rooms. Seriously?. I have never been told such nonsense on any other hotels in the world - so far. And at last; the 800-1000 euro! trip they recommend you to Capri is a rip off. No less. The public boat for 20 euros/pax from Positano to Capri - and then a private boat, with a nice trip a couple of hours (4 persons with own skipper) in a boat rented on Capri (there is a LOT of them) for around 150 euros is a MUCH better deal. Sorry about the «hard facts» Grand Hotel Angiolieri: We’ve been here before - but I guess this will be our last visit. Unfortunately. Collapse

Great hotel overlooking the Bay of Naples. I've never met such helpful staff before. They went out of their way to help my wife and I enjoy our stay. Unfortunately our bagge was lost by Lufthansa but again the hotel came to the rescue with toothpasre, brushes and razors etc. Breakfast on the balcony overlooking the bay is a wonderful experience. If I could give eleven out of ten for our stay I would. Collapse

This 37 room/suite hotel looks out over the bay of Naples with soft breezes and beautiful sailboats dotting the vista, with Mt Vesuvius in the background. We originally booked the Junior Suite for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay so much, we cancelled our hotel in Rome at the tail end of our 12 day vacation so we could come back and enjoy our final days at this gorgeous resort. The rooftop, high-end restaurant offers free breakfasts (limited/no lunch) and has uncompromising dinners with a knowledgable sommelier and impressive wine list. We rarely wanted to leave the stunning, relaxing infinity pool but made the somewhat arduous trek down to the sea for exercise in the mornings (27 flights down and up per our iPhones). We are in the process of booking this resort again for next spring. Collapse
