I treated my mum to a night away in the Gleneagle hotel recently to take her to see Gina & The Champions. It will was my first and last time to stay here. My mum has mobility issues and has a wheelchair card for there car. On arrival there were no wheelchair spaces available near the door of the hotel they are carrying out building work on the hotel and have taken all the wheelchair spaces away due to this building. There were 5 spaces on the left hand side of the entrance but these are not specified wheelchair spaces so as you can imagine they were all taken. I went into reception to ask where she could park as she needs a wheelchair space and I was grunted at and told by a blonde haired woman wit poor English..nothing I can do you have to park around the back. Lucky I was with my mum that I could let her out at the door and drive her jeep around the back of the hotel and walk back but if she was on her own she would not manage having to walk from the back of the hotel. This is why wheelchair spaces were created. So as you can imagine, my first impression was not good and it went all down hill from here. It was after 6pm when we arrived to check in. There were 4 people in behind reception with only 2 checking in. There were 2 people ahead of me in the queue and well over 6 behind me. I was 20mins waiting to check in. Instead of having 2 receptionists on the phone they should of been checking in the paying guests that were in front of them. I got no information about breakfast etc. I had to ask, the receptionist was not friendly and as a hotel, reception is the first impression a guest gets on arrival and The Gleneagle would need to train there reception staff on customer service. Our room was lovely and spacious and clean. Well done to the housekeeping staff. We had dinner in the hotel in OD's restaurant and what experience that was. The waiter who had very poor English took our order, he never wrote down our order and came back 10mins later asking us what we had ordered as he could not remember as he hadn't written it down. The food arrived and my mums dinner was cold and 3 times I had to ask the waiter for my chips that I had ordered with my steak. Food was average. We wanted to order dessert but we were 20mins and still waiting to get a dessert menu so I paid and we left. The next morning we headed for breakfast we had to wait as the breakfast room was full. We were then taken to OD's restaurant as they use this as an overflow breakfast room. They were very short on food in there, bits of breakfast available. I had to ask the waitress 3 times for a pot of tea. As you can imagine, we were glad to be leaving, very poor staff and customer service. Only good thing about our stay was the room. Will not be returning. Better hotels in Killarney than this one. Collapse
