A big thank you to all for making our last visit so special for Jims 95 birthday celebrations. Looking forward to our next visit soon. Jim and Margot. Collapse

Stayed in a family suite as a treat. Pricey. Booked a table for dinner but we were not informed that the Flesk was closed that evening, if we knew that we would have gone elsewhere. Also food in ODs not great. Staff "assumed" that we were on a package deal so didn't offer us the standard menu. Spoke to manager of ODs and she said we didn't specify even though we were simply asked our room number and handed menus. Poor customer service at this end. Sean the duty manager did sort it for us once I went further about it. Felt like some of the staff treated you differently depending on where they thought you were staying in general it could be a friendlier atmosphere especially when it sells itself as a family hotel. Swimming pool was great! Games room could be better. Breakfast was good and the lady who serves breakfast is lovely, she should be highlighted as an example for other staff to follow. This was our second year coming and it will be our last as we felt the experience and the service didn't match up to the hype and the price. Apparently my trip would have been better had I specified we were on a special weekend when we were boking, perhaps the hotel should assume that all guests are on a special weekend and treat them all the same. Stayed in the Gleneagle hotel for 3 nights. The room/hotel was relatively modern disputes the aging appearance of the exterior and was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The residents bar was a bit gloomy and they don’t serve Murphy’s stout!! We are in the restaurant one of the nights and it was very nice food and moderately priced, we would highly recommend the apple crumble! We enjoyed our stay however the hotel seems to be the go-to destination for older guests with multiple tour buses arriving during our stay. That said, the hotel was well capable of handling such a crowd. The swimming pool is a nice addition as well. Collapse

Before writing this post I feel it necessary to say I have given the hotel every opportunity to respond directly before writing publicly. We informed the manager and waitresses at the dinner, the reception team on check out and I also completed the "Your Feedback" survey almost 24 hours ago .. all falling on deaf ears. The only thing I feel is left to do at this stage is to write about our experience at the Gleneagle hotel in the hope others won't have the same experience we had here. Initially I planned this trip as a birthday present for my partner. We stayed on a dinner , B&B package. One of the most disappointing aspects of the dinner was that this occasion was not marked. I had asked the manager to put a candle in my partner's dessert to celebrate the occasion. Unfortunately this was forgotten. This would have been a good way to leave a good final impression after all the chaos that had happened before! The food was not fresh. This was emphasised by the speed at which the courses were served. It would not have been possible to cook anything in this time frame. The first nightmare was my starter, guacamole and goat's cheese. The goat's cheese had the consistency of yogurt and the only solid food on the plate was 2 small nachos. After these were eaten I was then left with a plate of liquid. The bread rolls were stale and being topped up from spare bread baskets on the window sill. My pasta was not al dente, it was soggy. It had bits of Parmesan melted to the sides of the plate as though it had just been passed through a blast cooker/microwave. My partner had the lamb which seemed as though it had been reheated from an earlier Sunday carvery. It was devoid of any natural juices and had a greenish tinge. It was also very tough. The stuffing was not light and crispy. It was soggy and heavy. The roast potato was barely recognisable. My dessert was Oreo cheesecake. It did not seem like a cheesecake at all, it was like eating a lump of dried powder that had no taste. I actually had to ask my partner to remind me of what I had ordered, it wasn't clear from the food I was eating. The tea was very disappointing as I thought that would be a stage of the meal where we could finally relax. It was served lukewarm. I have experience in food and beverage industries and I always aim to serve fresh tea. The tea and coffee were served from pre-prepared pots that were left on a serving tray beside us for at least as long as we had been sitting there. The tea was obviously overdrawn and not freshly brewed. The waitresses did ask us if everything was okay, we explained these details. The solution was to ask us if we would like to order something else from the kitchen. We politely declined as we had seen enough in the 2 meals we been served. When we were just asleep that night the fire alarm went off falsely at 11:45, the beds were rock hard and we found it difficult to get back to sleep after that. The receptionist asked us on check out if everything was okay during our stay. She did not seem genuinely interested in our experience just kept saying "I'm so sorry to hear that" as if she wasn't listening at all. There was no attempt to reconcile things meaningfully. She told us that she wasn't responsible for dinner but that we would need to talk to the restaurant team about that (which of course we already had done), she did not seek a manager. This was not proactive, and unfortunately there was no accountability or helpfulness shown. The dinner was not cheap and for the same price we could have had a fresh dinner downtown. Very disappointing experience with zero customer service. Had chosen the Gleneagle Hotel as we have had many great experiences here, our last stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Unfortunately this time did not live up to that occasions and we probably will not be back. Collapse
