We were here with our friends for three days. The hotel is next to the river the Leie and in the centre of town, We had a very nice room and a big bathroom. Very clean and nice. The staff at the reception was very very friendly end helpful. They also pointed out a parking garage close to the hotel, much cheaper than the one in the square near by. Breakfast was delicious and there was so much to choose from. We had rooms on the third floor and we slept like a log. It is possible that some street noise can be heard, but the hotel is in the center of the town (with lots of places to eat and drink.) Collapse
Noisy, hot and uncomfortable

We stayed for business (the room was paid for by the company) and had 3 of the worst nights I've ever had in 20 years of staying in hotels. To start with, the room was hot. I initially put this down to it being a warm-ish day and sunshine coming in, but when on the second day I put the air-con on at 16c, it blew hot air at me for 10 solid minutes before I turned it off again. Now, the room.... We were in room 222, which on first inspection seemed fine. I wouldn't have called it 4* by any stretch though. It was dated and needed some re-decoration. The first night, we were heading to sleep at 10.30pm when our neighbours returned from what must have been a night of thoroughly sampling the Belgian beer. we listened to every word of their conversation through the wall for 30mins before the singing started. At this point we rang down to complain about the noise levels. (having tried to take up noise complaints directly with guests at a previous hotel, I won't ever do that again). The reception said they would investigate and deal with it, but this seemingly didn't happen. The noise stopped at 1am. On the second night, this happened again, although this time from upstairs... it sounded like a group of people having a gathering from around 11pm til around 12.30pm. We rang to complain about the noise, but nothing seemed to be done about it. Just as this died down, our drinky neighbours returned to the room next door at 1am and started a very loud and involved conversation. This time I went down to reception and requested the night manager come to our room and listen to the problem for himself. This resulted in him going next door and asking them to be quiet. Which they weren't. If anything they became louder. I would expect a hotel that claims to be 4* to make a follow up check on a noise complaint, but this didn't seem to happen. The noise eventually stopped and we got SOME sleep, not helped by the heat in the room (and opening the windows let in the outside noise, so that wasn't much of an option). Night 3. Our drinking buddies seemed to have checked out thank goodness, but this time, on the OTHER side, we were treated to what can only be described as porn sex. The loud (obviously fake) moaning through the wall resulted in ANOTHER call to reception to complain about the noise issues in the hotel. To be fair, this was dealt with at haste, and I'm sure the couple must have been somewhat mortified to have management at the door with a metaphorical bucket of cold water.... although they then decided the best option was to turn on the tv at full volume to mask their efforts. Another trip down to reception at 12.30am and a the duty manager back in our room to listen to the volume of the noise problems EVENTUALLY resulted in them finding us another room, where the air con worked and the beds were actually nearly comfortable. The soundproofing still left a LOT to be desired, but was at least more distant than before (this time it was obviously coming from the hotel bar under neath us). In short, this is not a 4* hotel. A 4* hotel would have been able to source a quieter room for us (assuming their was one, I conclude their wasn't) on the first night, or at leas the second. A 4* hotel would have apologised. I did not receive much of an apology, in fact I felt like I was being a nuisance. A 4* hotel would have adequate sound proofing to ensure their guests had a comfortable night sleep and the privacy to be romantic without the neighbours feeling like auditory voyeurs. I will be telling the company who paid for my room to be request a full refund. It always annoys me that there is little to be done in the way of compensation for guests who travel on business, as my partner and I were the ones who were insanely tired over a long working weekend, and we will get absolutely no compensation for that, but at the very least the company should not be liable for the cost of this room. On a plus side, the hotel is very well situated and the breakfast offering was pretty decent. Collapse
Charming hotel with convenient location

I stayed at this hotel during a Road Scholar tour. My roommate and I had a huge room with refrigerator. The breakfast each day was delicious. The owners/hosts are charming, friendly, and willing to please.

The hotel is well located near the city center, however the room was situated in the hallway and noises came from inside the hotel and outside from the streets. It is not suitable for accommodating guests but good to have it as a storage room.

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved this hotel. The architecture of the rooms (with large beams and brickwork) really added to the ambiance(they are part of the historic hotels of Ghent). We arrived early and our rooms were not yet ready, but staff easily accommodated us with storing our luggage and recommended a great restaurant for lunch. The hotel is only about an easy block from the town square with shops and cafes and an easy walk to the beautiful churches, canals and older part of the city (note: there is a "free tour of Ghent" we took in the evening-advertising in lobby-it was great!). Our room overlooked the canal and was very quiet. The also have a small bar in the lobby if you wish a night cap. The room was immaculate and staff friendly. The breakfast was fabulous-plentiful, fillings and a large variety of all you can eat options. We would definitely stay here again! Collapse
