Our trip was made special from the moment we got here. The restaurant manager was working at the bar, his name was Steven. He looked after my family from the first moment. We arrived after breakfast - he brought us a tray of pastries and discused with great detail the best beers and what he would recommend. His knowledge of the local area was great and he recommended lots of places. The next evening we eat at the restaurant that he maneged within the hotel. He looked after our table personally and remembered what drinks we each enjoyed and made us feel extremely special. I couldn’t recommend this hotel more. 5* treatment, excellent location, great bar, amazing restaurant. Collapse

The hotel is in an excellent location, right in the center of everything. The positives: An impressive lobby with helpful staff in the coffee dock area. The rooms are really well appointed, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The decor is warm and the noise insulation is amazing, you cannot hear a thing inside the room. The rooms are equipped with Nespresso machines and a selection of teas and coffees. The housekeeping team went out of their way to accommodate requests, they were very helpful. The breakfast is second to none. The staff are incredibly hospitable and attentive. The selection of food on offer is beyond anything I have ever seen before in a hotel. The dining area too is wonderful, very cosy with scenic views over the canal. The Negatives: The shower was poor quality, the shower head had low pressure because there was a number of leaks coming out of the hose at a lower level. Despite the low water pressure, the shower screen seal was not secure and the water leaked all over the bathroom floor. Check in was very disappointing, the young lady who checked us in had the wrong reservation details on file (that's fine, it happens, no problem) however she contradicted us on a number of occasions so I showed her our reservation confirmation to clarify the matter. There was no recognition of a mistake on their behalf and if anything the attitude was quite pretentious following this. We were given the keys to our room, that was it. I had to request the breakfast service times and payment details. Thankfully the gentleman on reception the following morning on departure was helpful and friendly. Overall a good experience and I would recommend Collapse

Getting to the hotel. Check with the hotel how best to get there. DO NOT TRUST GOGGLE MAPS. I am giving you this advise from experience. Unless you want to tow your luggage through 2.7km of cobble stone path from St. Peters train station. Taking a tram no. 1 would save you a heck lot of a walk, taking a cab, uber or Grab would send you to the door step. Get a road name then do a search. Goggle took me on a scenic path of cobble stone, but scenic no less. Hotel It is sitted by the Lys river, offering a picturesque view. It has a door to the river banks and it affords you to sit there and sip your coffee and watch the day pass. Whatever you need, it is on the opposite bank, you could turn to your left and cross it to a different world. From the old amd medival to the new and uptown. Rooms The rooms are big and generous given the small land area the hotel has. It comes with a bath, complimentary toiletries, but no toothbrush and toothpaste. The bed, it is too soft for my liking, I'd prefer a more firm bed. Nespresso is available in the room too. Breakfast Some say less is more, this is especially true with Marriott, Ghent. The buffet spread is limited on one look, but it that's because it was placed in a small room. However, the choice available has been well thought and provided. Because it is not like the usual buffet in Asia, it affords excellent quality. Staffs The housekeeping, Akud did a great job in keeping our room tidy for the 4 days we were there. The breakfast crew were ever so attentive, to our needs. We are so thankful that we were given the opportunity to stay with Marriott, Ghent. It was a warm and welcoming experience. Collapse

We love the Marriott, we have come here for years. The hotel is a great location for visiting Ghent. The rooms are very comfortable. At the end of the day a drink in the Poppy Bar is always welcoming. We will be back!
