We decided to book Fowey Hall for afternoon tea, to celebrate a friend's birthday, something we like to do as a small group of friends. The entrance was very smokey as the fires were lit and it was quite uncomfortable, so we were pleased we were directed to our table. We were seated with a lovely view over the gardens and further afield views over Fowey, then our tea was brought out to us. It looked ok apart from a very small milk jug for a large pot of tea. Sandwiches were small and quite plain (yes I know they are supposed to be finger sandwiches but these were small), nothing exciting about the fillings and to be honest bread alittle dry. Scones were lovely, I would suggest more cream would complement them as not enough for three and cakes, again quite small but were ok. We also had a lemon posset in a small glass but no spoon to eat it with- with no staff around we could not ask for one. When they did arrive, we were asked if we would like more tea, which we said yes to - I think they must have just poured water over the previous tea as it was very very weak. Little things were missing and attention to detail was not what we expected from such a prestigious hotel (paper napkins, no water jug, missing cutlery, staff wearing jeans and to cap it all, I think we were charged for a second pot of tea, something we have never had before, tea is usually plentiful!) over £70 for 3 afternoon teas - I don't think we will be returning as we have had much better quality and paid less. We stayed at the hotel for a short break. Overall the hotel is lovely inside, common areas furnished in the style as they would have been 100 years ago, log fire burning in the foyer, lovely. Our room was on the ground floor in the 'extension', the room was spacious and modern with some older furnishings. A few minor niggles such as a plastic fridge, the type a child would have in their bedroom for soft drinks, also one handle missing of the chest of drawers … but these are minor, the overall feeling was very good. We had dinner in the evening which was generally very good except for my risotto which was overcooked, but otherwise we realy enjoyed the food. Breakfast was buffet style, nothing special but fine. You could also order from a good range of other breakfast options, these were very good and recommended. Overall a lovely hotel and one that we will go back to on our next visit to Cornwall. Collapse

We only stayed one night, but will definitely come back for a longer stay. We had dinner and breakfast the following day. The food was fabulous. They also had a great wine list. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. My wife had a very good massage in the Spa. This hotel is very well set up for young families with lots of activities for children. We had a massive room in the courtyard. Which is away from the main building. Which on the plus side was quite but if the weather is poor it could be problematic. Collapse

We don't often leave reviews except to warn others of bad experiences but our stay here exceeded expectations. Everything about this hotel was first class particularly our evening meals. We are regular cruisers and the food on board takes some beating but our meals at the Fowey Hall were as good if not better than most of the ships we've sailed on. We really enjoyed our stay. Firstly I'd like to congratulate all the staff on being very warn, welcoming and hospitable - they were all lovely and a credit to the hotel. I'd also like to particularly mention the food which we thought was excellent. I was especially impressed with the variety and quality of the vegetarian food which was extremely good. Our room was very clean and spacious with a lovely view over the estuary.. We found all areas of the hotel to be spotless, we loved relaxing in the beautiful lounge which had an amazing atmosphere in the evening and wonderful views during the day. All in all a thoroughly relaxing stay, thank you to all at Fowey Hall, we will be back! Collapse
