The hotel is in a very good location. There is a metro station across the street. Inside there is a big shopping mall. There is a supermarket near the hotel, restaurants and a good coffee shop in the hotel. It is a good thing because the coffee at breakfast is unbelievably bad and there is no kettle in the room. We arrived around 11 pm and the check in took a long time. I was part of a large group and the rooms were not properly allocated. The clerk photocopied each passport and returned it to each person instead of collecting all passports and returning them in an hour. It is a large hotel. We were in the renovated section. When we opened the room there was a very bad smell of some kind of detergent or soap - very unpleasant. I was there 6 nights and it took a long time with the window open all the time to get rid of some of the smell. The beds are comfortable with very good pillows. There was no shampoo and the soap was pretty bad. There was a problem with the key cards. My friends card didn't work and I had to go down two times for the clerk to callibrate it again. Some people in our group had the same problem. The breakfast wasn't good either. There is enough food so that a person is not hungry but it is not enjoyable. For me the hotel was all right because I was on a guided tour, we left each morning at 9 am and returned around 6 pm. Good restaurants are close by and the Metro across the street was also very good Collapse

I come often to beautiful Madrid and are always in search of new and affordable places to stay. Please never come here. The hotel is old and the service is dreadful. The rooms have no a/c in May and one cannot sleep because of the heat. On top of that the internet is the worst and despite all of these inconveniences they want to charge you 2 euros daily for a crappy safebox. 2 stars for a mediocre hotel that in the webpage appears wonderful..... bad Collapse

Booked this through Thomas Cook and, after hearing about poor reviews, thought i'd reserve judgement until I'd stayed there. Greeted at reception by a friendly staff, we were quickly checked in and up to our rooms. My room was spacious, modern, with a 32" HD tv on the wall, a working air con unit, and a mini fridge - which is great because there is a supermarket very close with great beer deals! My bathroom was large and, although the decor was not to my taste, it was clean and fully functioning. The room was kept spotless by the maid. When i returned to it after my days out it always looked like the first time I'd set foot in it. The area around the hotel is great with, as aforementioned, a supermarket within 30 seconds walk. This has all the things you'd need for snacks and beer. The road has a fair few restaurants and bars. We frequented La Tasca, run by a charming man who speaks English (not widely spoken in Madrid!) and has an English menu. Beer wise, Amstel is on draught, and three large glasses only 10 Euro 50, and his food is excellent. Shopping wise, there is an indoor shopping centre opposite and the Padre Pio train station connects the hotel with startions across the capital. There are also buses right opposite too, and you don't need to tell the driver where you are going, every journey cost 1 Euro 50, no matter how long you travel. Being English, I was disappointed that there was no kettle in the room for my morning coffee fix. However, right next door is a coffee bar called Horno Santa Maria. I had two piping hot milky coffees each morning for only 1 Euro 30 each. I was really impressed with the owner, he is constantly serving regulars and remembers all their orders. A lady sat next to me and, with no more than a Buenas Dias, received her regular coffee and long biscuit looking thing. With limited communal vocab, when I walked in after the first time, he'd just hold up the large glass that i liked and prepared my coffee the way I'd first ordered. There are no tables, you sit at a bar on stools. Everyone seems to know the people who come in, regulare on their commute etc. A nice way to see something that's real Madrid everyday life. I'd like to go back again and, now knowing my surroundings, would stay at this hotel and frequent Hornos and La Tasca. Would definately learn some more Spanish words though ;) Collapse

This is a very poor hotel. The good points are that it is in a good location, not far from the old town. The room is clean and showers are good, that's it. The best way to describe this hotel is penny-pinch. Cheap towels, cheap standard breakfasts, obviously not paying their staff much, next to no maintenance. The biggest problem is the noise, the walls are paper thin and because they have loads of tour groups it feels more like a hostel than a hotel. One I would definitely not recommend. Collapse
