Great location and staff

Just home from a fantastic stay in Eviston house. Excellent central location, right in the heart of Killarney. Irish music was enjoyable and the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. Will be back.

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel and have to say it is what I would expect to find if I was on a cheap coach tour holiday with my grandparents. The upstairs landings and bedrooms are desperately in need of a refurbishment as they are very dark and dull with old carpets. I stayed in room 335 which wasn't too bad but very noisy until about 2am with a lot of young scallies shouting and screaming and generally being a bloody nuisance every night in the back of the hotel. Breakfast was chaotic every morning with minimal staff on duty. The quality of the food at breakfast was awful and appeared to be soaked in water in each of the warm containers. I was very abruptly informed by a foreign waiter that I had not included breakfast with my booking which was incorrect and his attitude stunk to say the least ! I checked out at 6.45am and couldn't find any staff on duty so I just left my room keys and was delighted to be leaving The Eviston Hotel. Would I return ? Absolutely not !! My advice is get your paint brushes out and clean the place up after some intense customer training for hotel staff and most importantly show them how to appear happy in front of guests, even if they are really fed up working at this hotel. Problem for travellers is that hotel availability is low in Killarney so maybe The Eviston feels they don't need to raise their standards to attract the same volume of clients. Collapse

Facilities fine. Location excellent. Staff top class. Genuinely no complaints about internal and would stay again, but would recommend you send guests a map of where the entrance to the car park is at booking time. Limited spots is fine, but I had to park in pay and display first and then check in at reception to get the entrance location to the car park, which is around the corner. Narrow entrance to car park but fine if you are an experienced driver and would remind TO TUCK YOUR MIRRORS BEFORE YOU DRIVE DOWN THE ALLEY. Collapse
Great location, comfortable room but not if you want WOW.

Located in the heart of town and fantastic for those wanting to immerse themselves in the local culture, especially bars and retail. Walking distance to some key attractions too including the national park, St Mary's, Ross Castle and the Muckross House. The pub in the hotel is fantastic and probably the best part of the place. Great food, service and music. The hotel itself has a few things that need changing, some small, some probably not changeable. Firstly the parking lot out the back can only be accessed via the narrowest of laneways. If you're driving a big car and you aren't a confident driver I'd say forget even trying! Wasn't an issue for us, except for the fact a warning would've been nice. We almost drove past the lane way thinking it wasn't for cars, then when we realised, we had to do some reversing to line up to get in. Now the laneway size isn't controllable so I'm fine with that, but we weren't given any warning by the staff to look out for it, pull your mirrors in or even asked "what sort of car are you driving?". This would at least give people some warning. Also only fits about 12 cars so it's first in best dressed, and I wouldn't want to be reversing back out particularly without mirrors. Our major issue thus only 3 stars, was the room. We'd paid extra for a "Deluxe Queen" room and upon arrival even confirmed this. Then when we get to our room we were confronted with 2 double beds. When we called to ask, we were informed there were no Queen Rooms available so we'd been "upgraded". Not sure how the room looking out on a huge air conditioning compressor is "deluxe" and especially not "upgraded". Felt a bit like Bert and Ernie from Sesame St for the duration of the trip. The rest of the room facilities were adequate although the thermostat in the room didn't work, so we had no control over temperature. Obviously not the only ones as many guests were complaining of the heat and getting fans sent to their rooms. I'm sure a majority of the time heat isn't an issue it was just with temperatures in mid 20s and no ability to adjust temperatures the room became a sauna. Overall 3 stars for location and the pub downstairs. Collapse
