I stayed at the Ennerdale Country House Hotel for two nights during October Half Term week with my husband & dog. We received an incredibly warm reception from the staff and I have to say this was the most dog-friendly break I've been on - our dog was given treats on arrival & throughout our stay, including a sausage for breakfast! We stayed in a dog friendly room, which had patio doors that opened out onto the garden. The room was spacious, although the bathroom was quite outdated. If you have your dog with you, you can take breakfast in the comfortable bar area or alternatively, the hotel offers free room service. The hotel is a perfect base for exploring the area, with St Bee's beach 10 mins, Buttermere Lake 45 mins & Ennerdale Water 20 mins drive away. If you're heading out to Buttermere, then be sure to visit the Bridge Hotel - it was incredibly dog friendly, with a warm atmosphere, great food & service - perfect for resting after a full day exploring! On our drive up to the Lakes, we also took a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway - not sure the dog was too impressed but he loved exploring the waterfalls at the end of the line! Very dated hotel. Broken tiles in bathroom. Dust everywhere. Dirty bathroom. Broken patio door. We had 2 upgraded rooms I hate to think what the 'normal' rooms are like. Looks tired and dated. Location average. Staff ok. Food very average.

Spent 2 nights here. Room was lovely and clean, generally spotless throughout from what we saw. Staff were very friendly and polite, smartly dressed and gave a good impression. Only niggles are the mattress had seen better days, very squashy and could feel the springs. Also the menu for the restaurant could do with more options, light snacks etc. But overall had a great time and would happily return in the future. Collapse

We stayed for 1 night using an experience voucher. From booking to checking out everything very easy. Our bedroom was a standard double which was huge. SO dog friendly and welcoming. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Very relaxing atmosphere. Food was really nice with a great variety of food. Very reasonable drink prices. Able to have breakfast in your bedroom which is a brilliant idea. Only negatives. Pillows are so hard and lumpy. Bathroom needs a deep clean. Tiles really quite grubby. In general the bedroom really clean. Just attention to detail needed in bathroom. Poor water pressure in shower. Rain forest shower but unfortunately not the desired effect. Would recommend if you are in the area and need a stop over. Credit to the staff working there. Collapse

Our stop here was just an overnight break on a long journey. Our room was very comfortable. The staff were all very pleasant & helpful. We had a very nice dinner in the restaurant, and would not hesitate to stay here again.

A weekend away in a hotel upgraded from a Red Letter Day gift, without the children, to try and get some serious walking done was completely washed out by the weather! Arriving in the dark, the hotel staff were very welcoming and the room far surpassed expectations from the images we'd seen on the internet. Large and airy, very comfortable indeed. The deal included a two course meal and a free bottle of wine in the restaurant which frankly, was very average, my wife's meal was tepid and my own, although reasonably well presented, tasted very underwhelming. The cooked breakfast felt like it had been sat on a hot plate for hours before it made it's way to our table, so tried the eggs benedict the following morning (jar sauce, vinegar heavy) and my wife asked for scrambled eggs, which was served with nothing else! The second evening, we ordered from the bar, my handmade burger was hard and dry, completely unseasoned and the "slaw" was pitiful. Lovely hotel and staff, let down by the food..... Collapse
