I couldn't have been more impressed by the Elms - it has a 3 star rating, but we have stayed in many 5 star hotels which are not as good. Wonderful facilities, so family friendly with great attention to detail. The children wanted to stay a fortnight, but our one night seemed more like a short holiday as it was so relaxing. We will definitely return - one of the best hotels we have stayed at in the uk. Collapse

Last weekend my husband and I had an overnight luxury spa break at the Elms as my birthday treat. From beginning to end it was perfect. All staff were very attentive at all times we never waited more than a few seconds for anything. We had an issue with the shower in our room and this was quickly resolved by moving us to the opposite room which was stunning- more like a bridal suite. The hotel itself is stunning and the grounds extremely well maintained. The spa was perfect for relaxation. We had the pool mostly to ourselves which was a nice temperature, the is a lovely hot Jacuzzi, sauna, 2 steamrooms and rainforest shower. Everything is super clean. The changing facilities were great one of the best I've used. The food in the restaurant was delicious for both evening meal and breakfast. We were told we could use the spa all day on the 2nd day too if we wished which was a bonus so we spent a couple of hours in the spa before leaving. We both had a full body massage in with the deal and we both felt it was one of the best massages we had ever had. I would 100% return here, I can't praise it enough. Collapse

This is a lovely place to stay with great grounds and quaint rooms in a historic manor house. The staff where extremely polite and helpful. One fairly major gripe was the bar prices which were eye wateringly high. There is absolutely no need and in this day and age of instant reviews, it was a shortsighted attempt to make quick money from a captive audience. For example, I paid in excess of £31 for two gin and tonics. Collapse

I was taken to this restaurant for my 65th birthday dinner and was so bitterly disappointed and embarrassed for the person who took myself and two others there. Whilst the staff could not be faulted in their personality, their delivery of our wine was appalling. Not only did they keep screwing the lids back on the bottles after a pour but they dribbled the white wine down the outside of the glasses and the red wine whilst being poured was splashed over the white table cloth. This was before we received our food! Then when we were giving our food orders there were changes to the menu which when explained to us we could not understand. However that said we simply nodded and continued with our orders. The main course was served on cold plates so it was cold before we completed our meals, when we asked for side plates of potatoes for the four of us, only 1 small one which would have only served two was delivered which saw us having to request a second. The restaurant was not busy with approximately only a dozen diner guests at the most during our two and a half hours spent there so there was certainly no pressure on the staff of the evening. The cheese dish that I ordered was abysmal, seeing three finger size slices of very mediocre cheeses served but a large pile of biscuits/wafers to be used with easily three times the amount of cheese on the plate. the small portion of grapes had not been washed as evidenced by my napkin when I wiped my fingers. For the money spent I would have expected far more and felt so very embarrassed when our guests quietly told me later that they too felt very disappointed. I have paid far less and received far better quality service and food and will certainly not be recommending this establishment to anyone in respect of their food and prices. So for a 65th surprise dinner......I will let the reader draw their own conclusion. Collapse

My husband treated me to an afternoon tea as a friend had told him about the improvements to the hotel. It did not dissapoint. We were greeted by Dan, the assistant Manager, who has a genuine warm personality with one of the nicest smiles. Our table was waiting for us and although the fire wasn't lit it was still a lovely position. Our tea came quite quickly followed by lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes. I would've liked an explanation of what the cakes were but it didn't really matter as we enjoyed just trying them. At no time did i feel rushed, I felt i could've stayed there all day and nobody would've minded. All the staff were friendly and attentive even though they seemed quite busy. Jane, the receptionist, was very friendly and talkative but always seemed to be rushing around pumping up cushions. I wanted to tell her to sit down and have a cup of tea. We went for a walk in the gardens after, which i throughly recommend. They have an amazing herb garden, with a wonderful gardener who was happy to stand and talk to us about the different herbs they grow. I would definitely recommend The Elms for afternoon tea.I have already asked the ladies in my book club to join me for my birthday in the summer. Collapse
