For our tiny honeymoon my new husband and myself booked the excellence suite. The suite itself is marvelous! Clean, beautiful, free and full minibar...we had an handwritten note to congratulate us on our wedding... Where I remove the star is for little details: at the price of the suite we wouldn't have mind to have someone actually walking us there with our bags... Also the check in and out are cruelly understaffed, better be patient! Breakfast was good but for a hotel obviously filled with children, is having just one buffet in the middle the best option? Doesn't count the number of times we almost trip on a kid while carrying food... And last still because of the room price we would have love some privileges in the park as well (maybe some lines cutter or discount in shops / restaurants...) Collapse

The service at the hotel reception is unbelievable, bad, with lack of any empathy, and disgraceful. Although we confirmed twice that we will arrive late and get an early breakfast. We were given a late breakfast. In addition, the locker to the room was not working and we were told that the room cannot be changed and we can leave if we want. The room lacked towels for our children. The receptionist attitude was sarcastic and disgraceful. We will never recommend anyone to visit the hotel! Collapse

The place is excellent. we took a room for 6: Two adults and four childrens. The room was very spaceous and everyone had sense of privacy. The room was very clean and in very good condition. When you are check in, you get your Efteling tickets right away, so you can start having fun in the park, so don't delay too much :) The hotel has good restaurant and bar so don't spend time in eating at the evening in the restaurants in the park itself. I suggests that if it is possible, delay the donner after the park close down. In the last hour the crowd in the park dwindle quickly and the lines becomes very short. Collapse
A fine hotel, friendly staff, a funny suite, but....

We arrived at the hotel in the morning, stored our suitcase and got out tickets and off we went to the park. There is an entrance, specially made for the guests, so you are in the park in no time. At the end of the day we returned, we were quickly helped at the reception and in no time we were in our room/ suite. We took the Laaf suite for the duration of two nights. The room looked funny, really creative and funny, our three and four year old loved it!. Just funny how they arranged the lamps, the sitting area and the different Laven that were present in throughout the suite. For the children we had some nice presents and well up to that moment we had no complaints. The room was clean, all what we need was present in the room and the airco was working well!. Our problem/ disappointment occured when we went to sleep. The beds were small, we have a very good bed at home and a good size (1.80 * 2.00 M) and we got used to the good life..... In India we always had good hotel beds, even if the rest was bad, so we hadn't expected this. The mattress bend in a way that we didn't manage to get a good nights sleep.... and for me that was a very big minus!!. The staff at the hotel was great, the breakfast was good too, so was the entertainment for the kids and the in- and outdoor playground. The location is very good too, but just those beds spoilt it for me. We paid a considerable amount for two nights and in my opinion you should be getting a bit more... specially good beds, why else do you stay in a hotel?!. The NH hotel in Waalwijk had much better beds!. If it wasn't further from the Efteling and the inconvenience of parking your car at the normal parking than I would have recommended them instead!. My suggestion... Book a normal room at this hotel.... I assume that there they must have normal beds and well it safes you quite some money too!. The location, the service, entertainment for the kids and breakfast are fine... so just don't waste your money on an expensive room/ suite.... unless they buy new beds it is just not worth it. I hope that with the opening of the new hotel/ park, the Efteling will now spent some money on this hotel to upgrade it a bit... give it a bit more modern look, perhaps more elevators?.. and certainly improve the beds in the Laaf suite, room 313!. We booked a comfort room - the cheapest possible - but we were very pleasantly surprised. The beds were very comfortable - a good-sized double and two proper singles for the kids. Very pleased there was not the usual grotty put-u-up or sofa bed for the little one! The room was large enough for us not to trip over each other, with a themed board game on a little table in the corner. Our littlest guest was delighted to hunt for things in the room as part of this game and find the red shoes that were hidden away. There was also a tiny mouse peeking out of a mouse hole under a table and fairy tale characters hidden in the wallpaper design. In the bathroom there was a lovely decorated box full of themed toiletries. The TV was hidden by a large mirror when not in use and has two designated Efteling channels. One point to note is that there is no facility to make tea/coffee in the rooms. You can buy these at the bar and bring them back to your room, but it might be worth taking a travel kettle if you like a cuppa first thing in the morning. Breakfasts had great choice - mostly cold, but a few hot choices as well (scrambled egg, bacon, sausage) - with visits from some of the characters. There is a themed restaurant for evening meals, which was ok for us but our kids didn't care for the food so we only tried it once. Characters were strolling around and chatting to all the diners. Parking is free, in the hotel's own car park and it's just a short walk to the special park entrance that serves hotel guests. You get early entry to the park as a hotel guest. The park itself is just fantastic! If you haven't tried anything but Disneyland Paris, then think again; this place is truly magical and well worth a visit. Mid-week we were able to get onto rides with little or no queueing, but it got very busy on Friday (the day we left). Sadly, the park closed at 6pm (we went during May half term) and we felt that was a real shame - another couple of hours would have been great as it was still light and would have allowed us to have dinner in the park. It opens for longer during the summer though. We made use of the swimming pool, which is located in the Efteling village complex and is a short car drive away - you have to leave a deposit of about £20 with the hotel in exchange for the card key you need to gain entry to the pool. They supply towels. The pool is small, but has a jacuzzi, a lazy river area and two other very shallow pools for toddlers. If you're driving all the way, avoid the Antwerp or Brussels area (including the by-passes) on a Friday - we were badly delayed, on our way home, by the volume of traffic and many others we spoke to at Calais had the same problem.
