Here for a business meeting and the facilities are good. Everything worked, the refreshments are good too. Clear signage was provided to access the meeting room and everyone had a good time at the session. One to consider. The only downside was on site parking is pay, even if you’re a patron. But it is a city centre hotel. Collapse

First, Durham surprised me very pleasantly. Beautiful landscapes by the river, spirit of history in the air, nice people, … And there is the hotel Marriott – after lousy experience from Sunderland – this looks like heaven. Everything was clean, nice spa, breakfast was good, and the staff was extremally polite – from the first mail I have sent to them till check-out. Regarding the elite benefits – I got everything I should get and more. They also sorted out some of my office business in very professional way. Durham is the city I would like to visit again, and now I am completely sure about the choice of the hotel – it will be Marriott again. The tip: Just over the bridge is wonderful teahouse – Tealicious. Visit them and you will not regret – I felt myself completely as home, and I must say that their scones are divine. Collapse

It was our 10th wedding anniversary and since our first date was a Marriott and our wedding a Marriott we thought it was fitting to try here since we were eating at zen and for the nostalgia. From arriving it didn't seem to go well, £7 parking on their own private grounds? When we checked in the lady said none of the superior rooms were left and another said behind her that's similar.we were suspicious after this when got to our room and there was no extra "sitting area" as described infact it had 1 chair? We rang reception and they said it was superior room and we were completely shocked, completely run down carpets,Decor and tried to take advantage of the big bath but surprise surprise the spa bath didn't work, corridors felt like I'd go through the wonky floors! If the superior room is a 2nd upgrade can only imagine what the standard would be like. For the £165 we paid for this room + parking + £4 tray charge for bringing breakfast that "was included." we could of stayed in the copthorne,Malmaison, indigo or the townhouse that we nearly booked so unfortunetly we were and still are full of regret for such a special occasion. To top it off the booking reservations said for such a special occasion people get a bottle or upgrade... Nothing. At least zen the restaurant and my husband's company made it memorable. P.s I am NOT used to "luxury" hotels I've stayed in more modern premier inns!! Collapse
