Staying in the Marriott was a privilege. The staff were so friendly. The room and leisure centre were superb. Great choice for breakfast. Don’t book an Uber car from the station. Well known for not turning up and still charging you. Good local taxis.

Stayed for business. Check in was easy, VERY friendly receptionist explained where everything was and also recommended places in Durham. In fact all staff were friendly. Stayed in a room quite far from reception, but it was worth a walk. Recently refurbished the room was well sized and the bathroom was lovely! Everything was spotless. Even provided a fan without being asked! Breakfast was great with wide variety for everyone. Would definitely stay again and will recommend to colleagues who travel regularly. Collapse

My husband and I stayed here for one night to break our journey and to visit Durham Cathedral and were very happy with almost every aspect of our stay. We received a warm welcome from the check-in staff and Sean and Stuart are to be commended for their patience as we asked lots of questions and requested a few items. We were also pleased to find we'd arrived at 'happy hour' so were able to enjoy a glass of passable wine as we unpacked! The hotel is very conveniently located at the foot of the bridge/entrance to the Old Town. Within a few minutes walk (up hill but not too bad!) we were passing lots of cute shops, restaurants and the Cathedral was about 7-8 minutes from the hotel. Our room was in the older part of the hotel and was lovely. The only problem was that the air conditioning was not working properly. It was a warm evening and because we'd been out till late, we didn't discover the problem till quite late. The staff, who were all amazingly helpful and apologetic, brought us a fan and opened the windows for us. If it hadn't been so late, we would have moved rooms but couldn't be bothered since it was after midnight. The buffet breakfast the next morning was excellent - I love it when smoked salmon and scrambled eggs are on offer instead of just the usual British breakfast - but it was a great spread and set us up for the long drive ahead. Were it not for the A/C problem, this would have been a 5 star review - and the staff alone deserve that rating! We will definitely return next time we're in the area. Collapse
