Hotel Duodo Palace 3 night stay. Extremely friendly and helpful staff in all departments from reception to the lovely housekeeper. The hotel was warm and cosy and very clean. There was a continental breakfast on offer each morning with fruit, cereal, cold meat, cheese, croissants, bread, muffins, there was even a heater to do toasted sandwiches. Plenty of tea, coffee and juices. I would definitely stay here again. Venice is very beautiful, but needed the help of Google Maps to get around. The water buses are a great way to see Venice and to get around quickly - we bought a 3 day pass, which was very good value. Collapse

Duodo Palace Hotel is very well situated in the centre of San Marco. All major sightseeing spots can be reached within walking distance. On the other hand, it is situated in a very calm dead-end way. Our room was clean, not very big but space enough and a good bathroom with a bathtub. Breakfast was nice with everything necessary available for a good start into the day. The hotel staff was very friendly and service was perfect. I can really recommend the hotel for a Venice city trip. Got the best price I could find by booking direktly on the hotel web page! Collapse

Location is perfect - a few minutes walk from San Marco and the Doge Palace so easy to get a vaporetto to anywhere in Venice. One minute walk from the world renown theatro. We had a junior suite with balcony over the canal and the room was a room, not a suite - ie no separate sitting area - but it was a good size and the bathroom was nice and I could just get a chair on the balcony and sit with a glass of something and watch the gondole go by. It is not on the Gramd Canal but on a tributary so you get private gondole but not vaporetti. Proper authentic Venice. Bottle of Prosecco on ice on arrival was a nice touch. I would recommend the hotel but shop around for room prices. We got almost £50 a night reduction on the same room by doing so. By going to sleep leaving the balcony doors open as the room was hot when we arrived, we did really get woken by an excellent Italian tenor singing as he “gondoled” past the window. If you remember the Cornetto advert on British telly you will know what I mean. I’ve had ruder awakenings.... , Collapse
Ok for a short stay.

Google maps was excellent and we’d probably still be looking for the hotel now without it. We walked from the train station - not the best idea as we didn’t account for all the up and down steps over bridges with luggage. We got there in just under an hour. Hotel is very tucked away and you can easily miss it. We had a rooftop view which was nice but I would still have liked curtains that I could close. Bed was comfortable and large although we didn’t sleep very well as the shutters were banging and we had a constant “toilet flush/cistern refilling “ noise. It was ok for a base but 2 nights was enough for us. The shower scalded me when another room flushed their toilet. You have to call reception to adjust the heating. Most people seem to think the breakfast is good - I don’t agree with charging extra for bacon & eggs - you are already paying for bed & breakfast. A simple toaster would be good too. A decent base though and luckily we were out most of the time. Collapse

Stayed here over Easter 2018for 3 nights. The heater in the room was broken and the first evening the thermostat ready 30 degrees! They tried turning it down whilst we went out for dinner, but it was jolly hot again upon our return and they turned it off. There is no adjustment in the room - all done at reception, and we slept with the windows open and I had 6 mosquito bites the next morning. The next afternoon we returned and again the thermostat read over 30 degrees! This time they checked the heating unit and believed it to be broken as even when it was switched off it was still pumping out heat! Note, in the winter the heating system can only heat, not cool. The air con is only switched on in the summer. Very swiftly we were given the vacant room next door (305), however the heat from room 304 radiated through the wall that night, so again a poor nights sleep. There was very little sound proofing between the rooms, which wasn't an issue to us, but as we were showering and out by 8am I hope we didn't disturb others. The paint in the bathroom was peeling, and there was a tiny glass shelf above the toilet to put items on, or a plastic stool. The sink was a stand alone pedestal type and did not have a counter either side so our toiletries were perched by the taps on the sink which was a tad annoying. The shower over the bath had excellent pressure, but in both rooms I scalded myself! The bath is relatively narrow. The monoblock mixer tap is on long wall side of the bath and directly under the one of the 2 shower bars. One shower bar was at the end of the bath, but there was say a12 inch shelf between the end of the bath and the wall so impossible to stand under the shower head. The other shower bar as I say was on the long side edge of the bath and this was quite useable, until you turn round under the shower and your leg catches the mono block lever and turns it to full on hot! I would not want a child or a person with delicate skin to use the shower in either room 304 or 305 that we had. There was no bath mat provided so slippy too. The reception staff were very helpful, and the room was clean. We did not eat at the hotel. The room was quite small, but adequate and overlooked the windows of the next building as you would expect, and preferable to those at the front of the hotel overlooking the square. There was no roof terrace which was a shame in such a stunning city. Getting to the hotel was easy enough, but I strongly recommend as we did printing out walking maps/boat destinations before hand. Don't rely on route apps on your phone - they have problems with getting your position accurately as you are often walking in very narrow streets (3 people wide) and very tall (4 stories high). I booked on line ahead a boat transfer from the airport to Venice. The Aliliguna site/map was great. The hotel was only minutes from either St Angelo, Rialto or St Marco boat points and cost a fraction of a speed boat transfer (but took up to 1.5hrs!) Head for Teatro La Fenice and the small alley in the opposite corner is signed up for the hotel. You will walk up and down the steps of many small bridges over canals, hand luggage was okay, but those with large suitcases were struggling. Collapse
