Hotel Duodo Palace 3 night stay. Extremely friendly and helpful staff in all departments from reception to the lovely housekeeper. The hotel was warm and cosy and very clean. There was a continental breakfast on offer each morning with fruit, cereal, cold meat, cheese, croissants, bread, muffins, there was even a heater to do toasted sandwiches. Plenty of tea, coffee and juices. I would definitely stay here again. Venice is very beautiful, but needed the help of Google Maps to get around. The water buses are a great way to see Venice and to get around quickly - we bought a 3 day pass, which was very good value. Collapse

This was our fourth visit to the Duodo Palace and we have yet to be disappointed. We love it’s location, on a small canal therefore accessible by water taxi, not far from St Marcs Square and the Theatre, and tucked away in a small back alley - we find it wonderful. This time we were a little let down by the room we were given (it had no walk in shower, only a shower nozzle and a bath - and none of the power sockets fitted standard European adapters - the hotel helped with this) - the room 607 was canal frontage so in summer would be marvellous but we would ask to stay in another next time. The food is good with ample for breakfast either from the buffet or to order, and we would recommend a late night coffee (if you are into coffee at that time of the day) it is simply the best we know, anywhere..... and we drink a lot of coffee! Thank you Duodo Palace, we will be back again. Collapse

I have stayed at hundreds of hotels over the years, and this is hands down the tiniest room I have ever been stuck in. The two twin beds we reserved were smashed together to make a double bed, and there were less than two feet available to squeeze past the foot of the bed to get into the bathroom. The wardrobe was sandwiched between the wall and the bed, again with less than two feet space to attempt to access it and hang clothes. We gave up trying as it was an awkward hassle. There was one plug available for charging electronics, and there was one tiny window with a view of a cruddy looking wall a few feet away. There was very poor lighting, even during the day, because of the wall next to the only room window. We both felt very claustrophobic the whole time we were in the closet sized room. On the plus side, the location was good, but if you arrive by water bus vs. extremely pricey water taxi you will walk twenty minutes with your luggage across cobble stone streets and cross over three canal bridges with about ten steps up and ten steps down each bridge (no ramps for aesthetic reasons). There are many hotels much closer to water bus stops. The staff were friendly, although when I complained about how tiny the room was, especially for a four star hotel, I was told I reserved a "standard" room. Shouldn't a "standard" room in a four star hotel feel larger than a walk in closet? I really think "substandard" room is a more accurate and honest description. If I had rented a room described as "substandard" I would not be complaining, because I would have known what I was getting into. I have no doubt some of the rooms are spacious and warrant the four and five star reviews on trip advisor. I also have no doubt that anyone who gets stuck in one of their walk in closet rooms will hate it. I urge you to be very careful about the room you select when you stay here. Collapse

This was my third trip to Venice and my wife and I had the pleasure on this trip of introducing my newly married son and his beautiful wife to one of the world's most wonderful and completely unique cities. With four suitcases between us for our 5 night stay; this was the first time that I had booked a private taxi to my hotel; and it was worth every one of the 130 Euros that it cost us. It was easy to book as well with the booking desk immediately in front of you after you collect your baggage and go through customs. Since our last visit, work has been completed on the moving walkway that takes you to the jetty where you climb aboard whatever boat is taking you into the city centre. You have a choice of the private taxi speedboat or the wonderful Water Buses (Vaporetto) that we used during the remainder of our holiday. For this particular hotel; the private taxi directly to the hotel was a wonderful start to our trip; and I for one was glad to miss playing hunt the hotel and lugging my case through the maze of streets and bridges and alleyways and streets we had just seen before and what do you mean we are back where we started which is Venice! (FYI - my son's mobile phones app Venice was effective 99% of the time and we did not get lost anything like as much as on previous visits. After getting the warmest of welcomes and a much appreciated welcome drink; our rooms were the best that I have managed to book when visiting Venice to date. To be honest a lovely comfortable double bed and a much appreciated bath to soak our weary bones usually ticks all our boxes; but both rooms were immaculately clean and we had a great time. The continental style breakfast - all you can eat and very tasty - ensured that we had a great start to every day; and it was well into the evening before we started to feel peckish. First time visitors to Venice can do a lot worse than allowing the Duodo Palace take care of you. Final Tip - check out the supermarkets - which serve glasses of wine and snacks on your visit. 10 Euros for drinks for 4 of us? Collapse

My partner and I went to Venice for my 21st Birthday. The water taxi dropped us an San Beneto then we had to walk about 10 minutes to the hotel. They provided us with a map, but the narrow walkways and high buildings was very overwhelming as it was our first visit (you quickly get the hang of it). We arrived at the hotel to be told our room wasn't ready, so we went for lunch and had a walk around Saint Marcos Square looking like rubbish after the flight. After being allowed in our rooms, we freshened up and went out for dinner. Great location; a short walk away for Saint Marcos Square, Rialto Bridge and the designer shops. Would highly recommend eating in smaller restaurants in side streets, rather than the main ones as they are a look cheaper and surprisingly such nicer food and staff. Room was spacious and very boutique themed, with a good bathroom. Only downside was the hair dryer didn't really dry my hair at all, and the room temperature was too hot as you could not control the heating/air con. Overall, a great hotel for couples. Would recommend. Collapse
