A Great Weekend in Nottingham

Great Stay in Nottingham From the moment we stepped into the Hilton at Nottingham we were made to feel most welcome. The foyer was immaculate as was the rest of the hotel. Our room could not be faulted, with a gigantic bed, good lighting, plenty of wardrobe space, a large TV, and an immaculate bathroom. It was our 57th Wedding Anniversary and after being into Nottingham we found a congratulation card and box of chocolates in our room. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were ample (though we did have to request a pot of tea, rather than having it poured out for us). We had a meal in the dining room one evening and it was first class. On the Sunday evening the bar seemed understaffed and the service was slow, and atmosphere not very good. We never used the car as the tram terminus is only a five minute walk away, and takes about 20 minutes into the heart of the City. There is ample parking within the hotel grounds. We would definitely return to this hotel. Collapse

Being HHonors members, we stay at Hilton properties where ever we go. Hilton properties are generally good, but I would say that most places we stay, there are generally minor problems to deal with, which at times is frustrating. It could be say a sofa bed, not made up for the children, two towels for a full family, lack of toiletries, air conditioning not working, bills being wrong... the list could go on and on.. The times we've had to spend time getting things put right is quite a common thing for us to have to do. That all said, this stay at the DoubleTree in Nottingham was perfect in everyway. Plenty of towels, plenty of toiletries, the sofabed already made up, the airconditioning working great on the hottest day of the year.... lovely large rooms, clean, tidy in all respects. The hotel lobby and grounds were great, spacious and aesthetically pleasing. Free secured parking. An ice bucket in the room, a fridge in the room!! why can't all DoubleTree properties have the same facilities? The TV had terrestrial and satellite channels... and it worked flawlessly. Staff were helpful and accomodating. We spend so much time either on the phone to the reception on so many stays, that it was a genuine pleasure to just relax, and enjoy our weekend. That all said, we also got an excellent rate for the stay. Big thanks to all the staff there that make it work.... yes it should be the same at all hotels in the chain, but unfortunately with our own experiences, this generally isn't the case. Highly recommended hotel. Thanks for reading. Collapse

This hotel is just wonderful in so many ways but unfortunately the bed was just too hard to give it more than 3/5. The positives: Plenty of free parking, efficient staff, a beautiful pond outside full of wildlife, comfortable seating in the bar& lobby areas, well sound proofed conference suites (eg. we could not hear a wedding reception unless the doors were briefly opened), good sound proofing in the room from the busy nearby road, great water pressure in the shower, Stella Artois cidre on tap, minibar (fridge) in the room. Air con in the room. As a Hilton diamond we received 4 complimentary drinks vouchers (we stayed 3 nights) and 2 bottles of free water per day (usually only 2 per stay), a daily complimentary newspaper and a reserved parking area. Also, an excellent breakfast was provided with bacon, sausage, fried bread, scrambled, fried and (my favorite but sadly uncommon in hotels) poached eggs, beans, mushrooms, roasted/sauted potatoes, breads (including gluten free on request), cereals (including gluten free cornflakes), cold meats, cheese, yogurt, jelly etc We did not have lunch but the bar menu looked alright. The gluten free options were sandwiches, cheesy chips, lamb and another option I can't remember. Negatives: The bed was rock solid, no give. I know bed firmness is a subjective thing but this was so hard. It already had a mattress topper when we arrived but was so uncomfortable we tried sleeping on the duvet rather than under it! We asked for an extra topper and 2 extra were added... One was unfortunately in quilted sections and the filling had clumped making it lumpy so we removed it. With 2 toppers and the duvet under us it was just about okay but not great sadly. We woke several times in the night and were stiff in the morning. Conclusion: A hotel is basically a place to sleep. With everything else perfect this should be a 5/5 score, but with the bed so, so hard and thus our sleep not great I can't really give more than 3/5. Would I stay again? With a softer mattress, in a heartbeat. As it is, unfortunately it's unlikely. Collapse

Brand new building in a lovely setting. We stayed in the Hilton Honours rooms which were very comfortable indeed. The design and feel of this hotel gives you everything you need for a comfortable, relaxed stay. Lovely bed, pillows, spacious room, desk, arm chair, opening window, modern bathroom with superb shower, lit mirrors and great towels. Lighting all easy to operate. Very good TV, kettle. All super-modern and very clean indeed. Every single staff member here was charming, friendly and helpful. The reception kindly let me have some scissors (and said keep them), breakfast staff very friendly and helpful, bar staff likewise. The breakfast is a full selection of hot food (with piping hot plates), porridge, fruit and yoghurt with selection of seeds, pastries, pancake machine...etc. All good quality and delicious. This is a very well-run hotel and I would like to congratulate the management and staff on providing such excellent service. Collapse

We stayed here for 1 night so that we could visit a popular restaurant nearby. Location is on the outskirts of Nottingham so if you want central then this is perhaps not for you since a car would be essential to get to and from the City Centre. Hotel recently refurbished so room comfortable and of a good size. Bathroom also nicely fitted out. Hotel seems to be a popular wedding/party venue so plenty of functions taking place on the night we stayed. Collapse
