The hotel was being refurbished on the outside. There was scaffolding up which was covered in plastic sheets. Due to being on the 3rd floor the noise from the plastic sheets kept me awake at night. Given it was Christmas Eve and Christmas Day there was no festive spirit in the hotel. The staff were ok but appeared very disorganised and Christmas dinner was poor and no gravy! The lift was broken. It certainly is not to the standard of a 4 star hotel. A plate of fruit that was covered in cling film was left outside a room in the corridor and was all mouldy. Overall not a great experience. Collapse

All the staff were courteous and seemed to have resigned themselves to receiving and having to deal with numerous complaints. I felt sorry for them. For what it’s worth – seemingly not very much – I’m a Hilton Honors 'gold'; and my stay at the DoubleTree Kensington was the worst Hilton experience I have had ... by a long chalk. This hotel is owned (and presumably managed) by the Crimson Hotels group. Someone somewhere has made the decision to keep the hotel open during the extensive – and very noisy – renovations. Yes, it’ll be lovely when it’s all done, but keeping it open in the meantime, and making the staff deal with the fallout is a disgrace. (London is a big place, and the Hilton group has plenty of properties in the area, so it should be reasonable to expect the staff to be redeployed until the renovations have been completed.) Our story is similar to a number of others described on this site: Our first room was close to the drilling and hammering of the renovations and had no functioning air conditioning – and it was hot; and you could open the window just a smidgen. Our second room had a functioning, but very squeaky air conditioning unit; and although farther from the renovation works, you could still hear the drilling and hammering – which started at 8am one morning, and 8:45am the next. Atrocious! My biggest gripe of all is with the Hilton group. If the hotel were an independent, the risk of losing business long term would rest fairly and squarely with itself. I don’t know anything about the Crimson Hotel Group, and don’t know how the franchise arrangements work, but based on this experience I am inclined to move my ‘loyalty’ from Hilton to another hotel chain. We arrived at the hotel to find it undergoing extensive renovations. Elevators to certain floors are unavailable, air conditioning on other floors is not operating (despite the hottest days on record), internet not available in some rooms, renovated room offered had no natural light. No warning was given when we booked and no discounts or benefits offered to accommodate the inconveniences. Reception and concierge are as helpful as possible, but they cannot overcome management's mishandling. I am a long-time Hilton Hhonors member and have never had this bad an experience. I'm sure the hotel will be very nice when the renovations are completed, but this does not excuse management for misleading and mistreating current guests and does not give much confidence about the future. Having chosen this Hotel based on its location for the museums I was delighted that they were so close. Partly why this is a 4* review. I only found out that the hotel was under renovations after I had booked (no cancel deal but I did look at the hotels website and didn’t see anything there to concern me) I was very trepidatious prior to arrival. I was also very disappointed to have not been advised of this by Hilton or on their own website. Hotel is covered in scaffolding and there are obvious signs throughout the hotel of the works going on. Dusty floors, lifts not going to all floors, missing loo seat in the gents etc. The doors to the rooms bang VERY loudly if left to close on their own. Room itself was small but it was very clean and bed comfortable. Breakfast was limited on the non cooked food and had run out of others notably in the baked goods. Liked the pancake machine. Staff a little stiff and not very friendly on occasion and others very sweet and friendly so a bit hit or miss there. We didn’t hear any noise from the renovations during the weekend but come the Monday we were woken by the noise. I wouldn’t say don’t stay here but if it’s during the week then your going to be disturbed by the noise. Not sure if there are plans to do weekend works so might be worth asking. Bar/ reception area is draughty when the doors open so not a cosy place to sit in the evening to enjoy a drink. Was cold when we ate in the bar every time guests opened the door. Overall it’s not a bad hotel it’s just a pity that it’s under so much renovation. We would stay again but probably after the works have been completed. Collapse

I stayed at this hotel on 25 April and I would advise anyone who has yet to visit not to bother and spend your money elsewhere, this place is a building site. On arrival I genuinely thought I had got lost as I looked at the address and all I saw was a construction site, unfortunately I was at the hotel. At reception I pointed out that the website didn’t say anything about the hotel being a construction site and to be fair the staff I think are embarrassed, I was told it was a conscious decision by the management of the hotel not to inform guest through the website as it may put guests off. When I spoke to the head of front services it was suggested I could stay somewhere else, hardly want you want to hear being a loyal Hilton customer. Went to to the bar to get on with some work which was fine and I asked if I could get a sandwich as it was mainly grills on the menu. That was fine I was offered a chicken sandwich (2 slices of bread, chicken, mayo and lettuce). The problem came when the bill arrived and I was charged £12 for the sandwich, I asked for the menu so I could be shown the price but they admitted they had made the price up as there was no sandwich menu. I asked the manager if the chicken had it’s belly tickled every night before it went to sleep at that price, it was then offered to me me for nothing, all I wanted was a sensible price and I paid £6 which was in my view still more than it was worth. Worked in my room to the sound of drilling and banging until about 5-30pm. Genuinely would never stay here again and for everyone that does your are paying to stay at a building site and the management here don’t give a damn as we are paying for the works whilst they are being done. I’m sure the management will come back with some comments but funnily enough they didn’t want to talk to me on the day! Collapse
