We stayed in the Hilton in Chester, the reason being is that it is so close to the zoo. The hotel is lovely and looks stunning as you first drive onto the grounds. I took my 4yo daughter and she absolutely loved it. The staff are fantastic and so polite and helpful. The room was beautiful. Comfy bed, clean bathroom couldn’t ask for more. The only issue I had was the room was so hot I kept waking up in the night boiling. I just couldn’t turn the heating down in the room and didn’t want to ring anyone in the middle of the night which I’m sure they would have been more than happy to help. It is actually our second time at the zoo but we didn’t get around it all last time, this place is amazing and huge. Our only downside to this year was the weather. It rained all day. The animals where hiding and we didn’t see much. Collapse

Hotel location was great for Chester Zoo. Looks lovely and reception staff were very friendly. However in room, children's bed was not ready, food found on floor behind one chair, sunglasses from previous guest on another chair, and sweet found stuck to the carpet. Batteries had gone on both remotes for televisions and air conditioning would not stay on. Staff very good and sorted out all problems quickly but general state of room was unacceptable. Evening restaurant menu limited especially children's menu which had a choice of only 3 things. Reception staff cleared the restaurant bill on departure due to issues with room and again were very good. Overall, hotel and room looked lovely, all staff very helpful but limited menus in restaurant and general cleanliness of room was awful. Collapse

I had booked the afternoon tea and treatment spa package with full use of the spa facilities with no limited on the time - this was purchased on Groupon. The package was a really good value for money and on arrival the staff at the spa reception could not have been more friendly. We were informed of everything available to us and given an itinerary for the day along with robes and slippers. No faults could be found for the spa itself, very relaxing and extremely clean which made the experience even more enjoyable. We were well looked after by the therapists and the treatments were gorgeous (we both went for the radiance ritual). The aftercare/relaxation room just topped the whole experience and we will definitely be visiting in the near future. However, I would love to give 5 stars and I've given 4 at a real push as we were really let down with the afternoon tea, something we wouldn't bother with again. The staff did not communicate with each other and on the occasion they did, it was to gossip about the paying customers. When it was first booked I stated that one of us is a vegetarian so could they cater for this. I was made aware this would not be a problem. I then stated this twice to the staff that seated us and they brought out meat sandwiches. We then had to explain to another member of staff that we had requested one vegetarian. This message was watched being passed on yet after 10 minutes we explained this again and the other staff member had no idea. I dread having to complain wherever I go but this really was lazy service. As someone who has worked in hospitality a lot, I understand the hard work and what goes on behind closed doors but their standards should not drop and this should not be shown to the public. Our vegetarian platter finally arrived and low and beyond, there were no meat sandwiches to be seen. By this point we had just lost our patience and had to yet again explain that only one of us was a vegetarian. This made myself feel guilty for this dietary requirements and they sure did make me feel like that, unlucky for them they obviously thought I was deaf. We were then presented with a bill for the extras as I fancied a glass of fizz. This was BEFORE the food had even arrived. I was shocked and just stared at my friend before I could talk - the lady had even brought over the card machine so obviously keen to get our money. However, could not fault the food so compliments to the chef. I would have loved to give 5 stars as everything else was perfect. Luckily our treatments were last so we didn't have to end on the bad experience. Collapse

We visited for 1 night on the May bank holiday. I had stayed at this hotel previously with work and was reasonably happy so thought the family might enjoy. How wrong. On the positives. The room was nicely kept and the grounds/refurbishment also. However, the room is a little small for a family room for 4 people (a sofa bed is the only other bed) and with the sofa bed out there isn’t any room to move around. The food service in the restaurant was terrible. There was no mention of having to make a booking at either of the two restaurants when we made the hotel booking or when we checked in earlier in the day. So when we arrived at the casual dining restaurant at the Garden Room and Terrace I was surprised when the manager made us wait around 1 hour (with 2 young children) and still no sign of a table (despite the restaurant being half empty). They did allow us to order room service but the food was not much better than pub food. Some constellation. Also, we stayed here to use the facilities such as the pool, so once again we were surprised when the next day we had to pay 25 pounds to use the pool (family of four). I would think that for the price they charge for a family room all of these issues should not exist. I won’t be going back. Collapse
