Hotel location was great for Chester Zoo. Looks lovely and reception staff were very friendly. However in room, children's bed was not ready, food found on floor behind one chair, sunglasses from previous guest on another chair, and sweet found stuck to the carpet. Batteries had gone on both remotes for televisions and air conditioning would not stay on. Staff very good and sorted out all problems quickly but general state of room was unacceptable. Evening restaurant menu limited especially children's menu which had a choice of only 3 things. Reception staff cleared the restaurant bill on departure due to issues with room and again were very good. Overall, hotel and room looked lovely, all staff very helpful but limited menus in restaurant and general cleanliness of room was awful. Collapse

We go away a lot for one or two night breaks and normally use budgets hotels very happily as a base and a good breakfast. We found a good offer on line and decided to upgrade this time. It was a lovely hotel with a great spa facility that we enjoyed in the evening. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The service was good but not great. The breakfast as you would expect. The only down side was the room was still not ready for us when we arrived 1 hour after official check in time. That aside all was fine. However, do the extra toiletries, the slightly wider choice at breakfast and the nicer public areas and spa outweigh the budget brands. Throw in very high restaurant prices and the usual bar tarrif and the answer is no. For a city break where you are out exploring most of the time then unless you too can find a great offer I would still be going downmarket! Collapse

Booked 2 nights at the hotel to coincide with another surprise for my husband and a birthday , given a suite , breakfast and complimentary wine and cake platter for the room , booked via booking.com and made a huge saving , room was lovely spacious everything you need and more o my downside was the £15 per room charge for swimming and because we had our child with is could only use at certain times and due to her age couldn’t utilise the hydrotherapy pool, sauna or steam room so a rip off really for 1 hour swimming in a small pool if going with children suggest they let you swim for free to be honest as it really wasn’t worth it . Breakfast good with a huge variety , staff friendly and happy to assist - would recommend but would generally ask for the free b&b Collapse

I stay at this hotel about once a month and every time Wendy has been excellent but this time she went above and beyond! It was my 30th birthday and my girlfriend told Wendy at reception on the phone prior to us arriving, she had gone out her way to having my room decorated and even went out and bought a cake! This defiantly projects the face of Hilton service and should be recognised for it. I will keep coming here and recommend to anyone. Thank you Wendy Collapse

We paid £109 for one nights B&B, which is quite expensive I think, and were disappointed overall in a number of aspects. - The comms from the hotel stated that it was £15 per room per night to use the spa facilities. I've never seen this before, for residents, so we went a bit later and didn't plan to use it, only to be told it was free to use when we arrived, but didn't have enough time then. - The room was pretty basic and was showing signs of wear and tear. My wife ran a bath only to find there were no towels. We rang reception and were told they had run out and were waiting on a delivery! Thankfully they arrived 15 or so mins later. - The hot water then ran out before she could fill the bath so she had to wait till it heated up again. I had to have a lukewarm shower after she had finished. - The lights in the room were weird : one bedside light turned them all on whereas the other did nothing. And turning some lights off individually did nothing too. Very strange! - The plug hole in the bath was rusty and the water pipe to fill the bath was very loose. - You need a taxi into Chester and, having booked one at reception, was told it would 5 mins. 20 mins later it still hadn't arrived but, thankfully, somebody offered to share theirs with us. Not the hotels fault, I appreciate, but all part of the experience. -There was continually a large queue for the breakfast buffet, easily 5-10 mins. My wife had some eggs made specially and these arrived really quickly. So she then went to get the rest of the food and had to queue for ages, so the eggs were cold when she got back. We mentioned these issues on checking out and the front desk said they were sorry and would checkout the water pipe and temperature. They didn't offer anything in the way of compensation for our less than satisfactory stay. I've stayed in numerous Hilton's and Doubletree's and always been pleased, but this one was a let down. I wouldn't choose it for any future stays in Chester. Collapse

Lovely hotel, beautiful grounds, recommended for a couples stay. Only down side i would say is that the staff are quite rude and seem to look down on you a bit. Also people lounging about in robes showing off parts you don't really want to see everywhere, in reception and the bars. Keep that in the spa area would be much appreciated. Other than that, stunning and a great stay. Young barman on the late night bar was a great example for reception and the spa reception that tend to look down on guests as i saw on a few occasions with guests. Room: Lovely and worth the money for sure. Only downside was the king size double bed as advertised was actually 2 single beds pushed together with a duvet over and holding them together. Spa Facilities: Bit too busy to really enjoy fully but understand it was a busy weekend. Reception as above were a bit rude and snotty. Collapse
