My wife and I stayed for two nights in the recent good weather, having paid considerably more for a river view room with balcony and outside furniture. Plus points: the staff were generally pleasant; the hotel has a great location on the river, very near the centre; parking is available on site (£19.50 per day). Minus points: the hotel is rather tired in parts and has no air conditioning in the original building; lunch was distinctly average pub standard; the breakfast was a very poor 'dried up' buffet and at £19.50 per person per day ridiculously overpriced - eat at any of the numerous cafes nearby instead. However, the main issue was the room which had a balcony in permanent shade, only 4 feet square and with no outside furniture - in effect, completely useless. When I complained that this was not what we had booked or paid for, the management seemed oblivious to the fact that they are selling rooms which clearly do not meet the the description advertised. We arrived at the hotel as part of a larger group to celebrate a 50th Birthday. Upon our arrival, the staff at Reception were really helpful and kind and arranged for our car to be valet parked by Nick - all very smooth and professional. We were then handed over to Joan and Marco who were responsible for our event. I cannot praise them highly enough - they are a credit to the hotel. They were professional, discreet, very helpful and went above and beyond to ensure our event went smoothly. They even moved our function room to ensure we had the best possible experience. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone and look forward to going back myself in the future. Well done Joan and Marco! Collapse

I stayed here for business and I enjoyed my stay. First and foremost, the bed is very comfortable! Unfortunately the hotel doesn’t have AC. I asked the staff how to control the temperature and they informed me that the Building doesn’t have AC. But the staff was quick to get me a fan. I opened my window and outside door which let to a small private balcony. Thankfully it was cool out so my room was moderately cooled. I do think that in the summer some rooms might not be too hot. Very friendly staff and the hotel is in a great location. Collapse

We stayed at the Doubletree for two nights for a family wedding during the heatwave of May. On arrival to the room, the view was of a brick wall, overlooking at very close quarters the new extension. Now I appreciate that the weather was incredibly hot but there is no air conditioning system In this part of the hotel and the window in the room wouldn’t open. At 2am unable to sleep and dripping in the close hot air, I called reception and they brought up a small fan which helped slightly. The next morning i was offered a ‘free upgrade’ to a river view room - yes you could see a bit of the river but mostly the view was of the hotels car park. There are so many small things about this hotel that, I’d put right could make it a great, central place to stay. For example in the new room, the cupboard had a light which activated when the door was opened, but the cupboard door didn’t close properly so the light was always on. Breakfast was good although the service in the garden restaurant was very slow. Overall I would return but a bit of management and the place would be almost worth the money you pay for such a great location in an incredible city. Collapse

Afternoon tea on a glorious sunny day. We sat by the huge windows overlooking the River Cam. The table was immaculate with crisp white table linen. The staff were very attentive and our waitress was particularly helpful. There was a choice of beverages, which were refilled if required. Tea included sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, various delicious little cakes and macaroons all decorated with slices of fresh fruits. A great experience and although we are local, I think this would be a lovely place for visitors to the city. Complimentary 3hour parking was included, which was a bonus in the city centre. Collapse
