The CP is a 5 minute walk from Central station (it seemed longer than this with luggage) but its behind the station (via Tonale). The hotel is next to the entrance of Sondrio metro stop (8 minutes to the Duomo). Its very handy after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel is clean and our room had a great bathroom. Our room rate included breakfast which had plenty of choice. The staff were all friendly. I would stay again. Collapse

The first time I stayed here the hotel room and service were terrible, the second was a single night with family and was really good, but this time I was again disappointed. There was a blackout for several hours in the evening that lasted into night. The rooms have electronic keys so people could not get into their rooms or were in pitch darkness. The staff didn’t really know how to handle the situation and rather than gathering people, explaining, offering refreshment and apologies, were quite rude and without helpful suggestions. It took me to suggest to them that there might be a mechanical master key they could use, it took me to suggest to them there might be a restaurant nearby they could send customers to, and it took me to suggest to them that they could advise customers to leave the room door on the latch so they could get in and out without troubling hotel staff. There were a lot of confused elderly Americans in the hotel, some with mobility issues, and there should have been a clear emergency response procedure in such a case, with emergency lighting in the corridors (there was not), emergency lighting in the rooms (there was not) and clear directions to the stairs (there was not). The staff did not check lifts and did not check rooms to ensure customers were safe. They just responded indifferently as if it was not their responsibility. Anyone staying in this tired hotel should demand better service but as a Spire Elite Ambassador I personally expect you to try harder Crowne Plaza. Breakfast is weird, with half of it hidden at the far end of the room, waitress coffee service serving coffee in series (that takes a while), and quite stale breads. The gym is utterly useless without even a proper cycling machine or worthwhile free weights. It should be knocked through into the spa that no-one uses so they can furnish the gym properly. Collapse
Absolutely Awful, Avoid

They offered us a price over the phone for two nights so that we wouldn't book through Orbitz. When we went to check-out, the bill was astronomical, three times more than the price we had booked, and not what they had offered us, and much more than the price we could have booked through Orbitz. The manager wouldn't even let us speak, he began talking loudly over us and gesticulating wildly. It was very bizarre and fraudulent in our opinion. It was the worst customer service we have received at a hotel, and our room was tiny and the hotel rundown. It was not worth what they are trying to charge us. And the aggressiveness of the staff is suspicious and alarming. Collapse

Location is good if you need to go to the train station as it is at a comfortable walking distance. The city centre is a good 15 mins by taxi. we had a junior suite but the size was on the smaller side. Beds comfortable but small. The power switches are very confusing. Bathroom was clean with the shower over the tub. Breakfast spread and quality nice and the servers warm and polite. We must mention the cakes and pastries, which were very good and changing every day. The concierge is a hit and miss. One or two of the persons were nice and helpful but the rest disinterested, to say the least. During our stay, the hotel had a big electricity blackout. our suite was on the 8th floor but the lift was not working nor the ac's. we had to wait in the lobby for 2 hours. we would have appreciated if the management would have at least circulated water amongst the guests who were waiting in the lobby. they appeared much perturbed and embarrassed but they could have and should have done more. To make things worse, although power was restored in the night, it went off again early next morning. We had to leave without even taking bath as the bathroom was pitch dark and climb down 8 floors. I feel any other hotel would have tried to make things up for the tremendous inconvenience caused to its guests but this approach was missing altogether. Collapse
