The location of this hotel is ideal as it is just around the corner from the entrance to Gloucester Road Tube Station and there is also a bus stop at the Tube Station, where you can get the London Tour Bus. Visiting from the USA for 8 nights I was anxious the accommodation would not be as good as it appeared on their web page. However I was extremely pleased with the Hotel , its amenities, our room and the garden . A garden in central London!. The reception we received was very courteous and efficient. The staff were excellent. Friendly ,caring and concerned about our satisfaction. Location was ideal for us with a tube station across the street and busses and taxis near the entrance.English Breakfast and the coffee choice were great. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it. Collapse

I don't want to be confusing, but there are two sides to this review - as an IHG Ambassador member and as a 'normal' customer. I hope you'll see the difference. This visit to London was very special to me and also my wife. It was to celebrate my 60th birthday and to 'celebrate' a new phase of our life - the kids all flown the nest and our first trip without any of them. Also, our first visit to London as 'tourists' and not for business in many years. I travel a lot for business and usually stay in IHG hotels. As a result I'm a Platinum-level member of their loyalty scheme, so I have a bunch of benefits, including a guaranteed room upgrade. This has ALWAYS been the case, no matter where I've travelled. I booked this particular hotel for their location. And I booked a good room (£390/night) so that my upgrade would result in a suite. Like I said, a special occasion. My first enormous disappointment on arrival - they refused my guaranteed upgrade, with some cock and bull story about it being at the hotel's discretion. I checked with IHG via several routes and this is simply NOT TRUE. Despite escalating to the hotel manager they still refused. This is the first time this has EVER happened in any travel, anywhere. Yes they offered me points (equal to 20% of one night's stay - wow!), a bottle of cheap bubbly (£10? from the supermarket) and free use of the minibar - except the tiny 'minibar' was empty until the last night. So, in exchange for my upgrade to a suite, they fobbed me off with a few cheap 'trinkets' and ruined a big part of my special visit, while being able to rent out the suite that should have been mine, by their own rules. Even IHG apologised when I complained and gave me a few more points, but by then it's too late. So, for this downright lie, refusal to give the mandatory upgrade, and ruining my stay, I must give them a low rating. And another ripoff - I booked online and chose the Bed and Breakfast rate (pending my upgrade). Due to my status I got 'promoted' to a Club-level, so I could use the Club room for my breakfast, which should have then been 'free', i.e. included in my Platinum benefits. But the hotel refused to change my rate, forcing me to pay for breakfast, even though it should have been free. Crazy. For my fellow frequent travellers from the IHG scheme, I DO NOT recommend staying here - you may not get the benefits that you deserve. We travel a lot and make these hotels a lot of money. The least they can do is deliver on the promises they make to get us to stay with them. Now, as a normal customer without the above expectations, I can say that the staff are friendly. The hotel is quite clean. The Club room breakfast is quite good. In the evening the bar and associated food is a bit limited and shuts off pretty early, but that's not unusual. The 'Deluxe' room I had was not a suite ;-) or even close, but in itself was OK. Average size and price, for London. The shower was a bit wobbly/iffy and my wife complained about it, but it didn't get fixed. Everything else worked OK. Our room was at the back so it was quiet. It overlooked the hotel's 'beach', a sand-covered area of the garden where people can sit and sunbathe, or have some drinks (I think it costs £20 for a half-day to sit there). Be careful of the minibars, they are these ridiculous automatic 'take-something out and you need to pay for it' type. Small. In our case empty for the first 2-days. I always get caught by them because they are set up so you can't see what's in the holes until you take them out - and then, bingo, you need to pay for them. So, as an Ambassador level guest I give them 0/5. They know very well what they need to provide and they deliberately rip us off. As a 'normal' guest the rest is average for London. But even here they're taking the cheapo, ripoff route, e.g. the room minibars. So, frankly speaking, my advice, don't stay here. I don't like feeling ripped off, and this hotel does everything it can to do just that. Collapse
