The positives of the hotel are proximity to JFK International Airport, cleanliness and friendly staff. However, the hotel is right on major thoroughfare and was very noisy. Also the decor sorely needs an update.

We had from start to finish a bizarre experience. We booked for the Park/stay/fly feature and proximity to JFK. The front desk and the valet seemed baffled with option.. most likely due to communication breakdown from a language barrier. Normally we are given given a ticket for the valet or tag to hang in our window indicating how long we will be parked at the hotel. No such thing occurred. After I inquired about the long term parking we reserved we were walked over to the valet where he told us his parking lot was full. Just park out front and maybe by morning he would have a spot. After discussion we were left with no other option and in the morning went down half and hour earlier than we would have in order to handle parking our car. It took the full half hour due to the valet asking us for proof that we paid for long term parking. Returning to front desk to ask for proof and her not being able to find anything that would state such. Eventually she just scribbled something on the receipt that was left under our door. We barley made our shuttle.. if it wasn't for the other nice guests allowing us to squeeze into the full van we would have had to wait for the next one. Upon returning back from our trip the shuttle was at the airport no issues. However, the valet was once again an issue as he wasn't at his desk. He emerged 10mins later to help us and we had our car 15mins after that. We have flown out of JFK many times and used park/stay/fly option for each trip. Never have I encountered such a bizarre system for what I would assume is a basic function for this hotel. The room, bath and amenities were clean and adequate. Collapse
Just OK for an airport overnight stay

If you are a regular guest of Crowne Plaza chain and are familiar with their usual standard, this property will place somewhere on the lower third of their scale. There was nothing very wrong, but most of it is just somewhat below what you are used to in CP hotels. The wait for the hotel shuttle at the Federal Circle was about 15 mins, the shuttle driver was friendly and helpful, but he only had room for 7 pax, there were more of us waiting, so I felt sorry for those who didn't make it onto this shuttle, especially in the bitter cold January night. Arriving at the hotel the overall picture was somewhat disappointing, the lobby crammed with only two check-in positions open. The clerk behind one was obviously a trainee as he had to ask his colleague for almost everything. This even further slowed down the check-in process. It took 15-20 mins before it was my turn. Although being their top tier rewards club member and having an advance reservation, nothing was prepared ahead of my arrival, which again took time. The check in clerk was professional and friendly and the assigned roomed matched my preferences. The room was spacious and clean, the bathroom somewhat dated and on the smaller side. The one thing I found extremely odd in the room was the fact all the drawers kept opening, they would not stay shut. Something that should have been dealt with by the maintenance. Catching a shuttle (this time a 10-seater) back to the airport in the early morning was another lottery since it was obvious there were far more people waiting in the lobby. I don't understand why they do not accept shuttle seat reservations at least for the way back to JFK. With shuttles running on half hour basis, you could end up missing your flight if you don't make it onto two consecutive shuttles. This property would make a nice Days Inn or Quality Inn, but for a Crowne Plaza you expect a bit more, especially when taking the high rates into consideration. Collapse

This is an airport hotel. That should sum it up I guess. The area isn't anything to speak of. The area around JFK offers a surprisingly low amount of good hotels. For a Crowne Plaza this wasn't up to the standard level of a CP hotel. Upon arrival I had a major issue with the taxi driver who tried to rip me off (and as it turned out also skimmed my creditcard) and a loud discussion was in place. There were 3 staff outside and none of them offered any help. I still don't understand why I was left hanging there and had to sort this mess on my own. The driver even took my bag and when I asked to call 911, nobody reacted. I ended up paying the taxi ride twice. The staff couldn't care less and that's not a great start of a stay. It's an aging hotel, but the property is fairly well maintained. The lobby was spacious and modern. The rest of the hotel really left no lasting memory, except for 1 thing. Alex at the Front Desk was by far the friendliest person I have encountered at the hotel. The room itself is pretty large with a big work desk and a full size mirror. The bathroom was rather small but functional. The major thing for me was the view of the taxiways at the airport. I'm an aviation geek, so that was a nice little extra. There was 1 thing wrong with the room, the toilet was constantly taking in water which resulted in an annoying noise every minute or so. However, I was too tired after traveling for 16 hours so I decided not to switch rooms, but it was passed on to the front desk when I checked out. The basic internet wasn't fast enough and would disconnect every now and then when a lot of people were connected. All in all, the hotel itself is ok, especially for a JFK area, but because of the lack of interest of the staff (except Alex) I will not return to this property again. I'd rather get into the city to get to a hotel that offer quality for its money. Collapse
Not good enough
