Possibly one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in & I’ve stayed in hostels sleeping on the floor in Asia so that’s saying something! To start off, it is one of the biggest crimes against humanity to see such an incredible historic building being turned into a circa 60’s concrete jungle. Honestly the architect should have their license revoked. We arrived quite late & missed the small sign for the reception area, which by the way is pretty hidden, so your first instinct is to go to the main house. After a 10 minute journey through the entire hotel we made it to the reception. We checked in & were TOLD, not shown, but told where our rooms were. I wouldn’t mind if there was only one person on, but their was in fact 3 receptionist’s on at 11pm (which by the way management should look into as this is a total waste of money). After searching, we eventually found our “room”. I put that in adverted comas as although advertised as a room, it in fact held more resemblance to a boarding house room. In short, the room was tiny, very badly cleaned, small windows, no telephone, tiny bathroom, shower was dirty had terrible water pressure & flooded. To top it all off, the bed felt like there was tiny little people in it struggling to get out. Every time I moved, a spring would push into me and made for a terrible nights sleep. The noise pollution in this hotel is something terrible. Outside my window i could hear perfectly what everyone was saying, & this happened all night. We didn’t have any breakfast, as number one we weren’t told where it was & number two I didn’t even bother as I didn’t feel the food would be much better after seeing the state of the rooms. Check out was slow, the receptionist didn’t seem to really know what she was doing. Would have been alright other than the fact we were in a hurry to catch a train. What really irks me the most from this entire trip was the payment. After being told at check in I had to give them a deposit, which I was specifically told WOULDNT be taken from by card, it in fact was taken. After emailing them today, I got a pretty standard reply with no apology. They are refunding me the money but have failed to give me any sort of satisfactory reason as to why this happened or gave me any sort of apology. All in all, I wouldn’t even waste your time going here. Perhaps it might change with the new ownership but it looks like nobody really even cares about the place anymore & boy does it show. Collapse
Never again and for the reason outlined.

Stayed here on 13th February for 1 night. This Hotel was booked as a business trip and everything booked for me. There was a work event that night that I was attending and staying over. Check in didn't go great. Directions to the room was confusing. Told to go to 2nd floor (room was A325). Had to share with a work colleague so we were wandering around trying to find room to no avail. Had to go back down to reception to get more directions but ended up stopping a member of staff on 2nd floor for help. Room was small but would have been functional should there not have been a big problem - the bathroom door wouldn't close. Now this was a sliding glass door and was stuck in the open position. I tried to see if it had came off runners or anything and pushed and pulled door and still not right. Went down to reception to report this. Was told that someone would come look at it. We were out the room for a while so happy for that as didn't need to use the room. Event was due to start for 7pm. Went back up to room around 6:20pm to get ready. Stopped at reception to enquire about the door to be told all ok and to contact back down to reception if any further issues. Back up to the room and door wouldn't close still. I phoned r4eception straight away for a man to say these exact words "I know exactly what this is about. Go ahead". Not how I would speak to a paying customer that's for sure. He then said that seemed maintenece hadn't come up and he would send someone up straight away. I said about us needing to get changed, washed etc to be told again that someone up straight away. Person did indeed come straight away - and was still there 40 minutes later. We were stuck not being able to get ready so I said to the man that we were needing to get changed and said about the time expecting him to go and come back but he kept working. He left the room at 6:52pm - so we had 8 minutes to get ready. Lucky we had hair and that all done whilst waiting. I went to bathroom 1st, door worked. my room mate then went back to use bathroom and door wasn't working again. No time to deal with this as already rushing about and check in next morning early on so had to make do. With the room being so small if you sit on the toilet then you could see right into the room due to mirrored door on wardrobe - so I could see right onto her bed and I'm guessing if she was to look then she could have seen me on the toilet. Not great when this was a total stranger to me. Bed comfy enough and Buffet Breakfast was nice and this is where the 2 points come from for the raiting. Next morning checked out. Wasn't asked about our stay when handed key over. By then I was not interested in saying any more about the bathroom door. Not my problem anymore. Whilst sitting waiting to get picked up for Taxi a couple of Hotel staff walked passed and asked about stay. I said about the Bathroom door to be asked "Did you tell reception?" I said I had done the previous night twice. The man the said "But have you said today?" So off I went to say again. Again not my problem since I had checked out. I wouldn't stay here again due to this issue and how my complaint was handled (and also you don't speak to guests like how that man spoke also) Collapse

Enjoyed a sneaky night away last weekend with friends to combine some golf and grub and what a lovely experience we had. OK, the elephant in the room... the golf course. I’d been given mixed reviews but what a great test. Yes there’s a very active Mole and yes there’s some crow damage which isn’t that uncommon at this time of year but WOW what a blinding track, laid out across the stunning 400 acres. Holes 5 to 7 are stunning. 14 is a climb and quite frankly a fantastic hole but the big hit for me are the views offered to you of the house and grounds as you explore the course. A little love and attention this summer and this track will really deliver, the odd bunker for example could use a little sand but it’s February so the best of the year is ahead. The room was lovely, not a top end suite but a large modern affair in the newer part of the resort.. VERY comfy bed. The food we ate in the Restaurant was a delight, you have to see the baked Camembert hedgehog to believe it. Finally there are the Staff.. I felt nothing was too much trouble for them and whether at the leisure club, restaurant, bar or reception These guys have it sorted. I will be back in the summer. Collapse

As long as you prepare yourself for a adventurous journey into the countryside then you will love finding Heythrop. I think there are several routes in, but there’s loads of brown signs giving you direction. It’s got all that you need in a resort, but it’s huge! Mega Huge! 2 or 3 bars and eating places to choose along with Golf and Health Club. Disappointed I booked a double bed and got two singles, but was too tired to argue. Food quality high. Collapse
Great venue, great service, delicious food. Would recommend.
