This hotel is located fairly close to the historic centre of Athens, with a Metro station nearby. I stayed here from 3 to 8 January 2019. It is always good to arrive after a very long flight but before the official check-in time and hear: “We got your email and your room is ready for you.” Not just that but: “you’ve been upgraded.” The welcome fruit basket and the biscuits and chocolate were just what I needed. The welcome drink and snack would have been even more welcome if the Bar (and Reception) had been staffed when I first tried to use the voucher; no problem the second time. In most such hotels, the General Manager is just a signature at the bottom of the welcome letter, but in my room were his full contact details – excellent! Comfort was what I paid for and got: Crowne Plaza hotels deserve their reputation. The staff were invariably courteous and attentive. The man who escorted me to my room was very helpful in explaining how to use the key card and the air conditioning. My room 612 (photo) was spacious and well equipped: a bed so comfortable that it could have contained a family; a generously sized desk; numerous power points. The indications on the switches for DO NOT DISTURB/LAUNDRY/MAKE UP THE ROOM (photo) were particularly clear – a pleasant change from many hotels. There were as usual almost no clear indications of what the light switches controlled; in two cases, I eventually discovered the dimmer switches, one hidden on the floor behind the bedside table. Nightlights may have been there, but I did not find them. Above the bed there was a fire alarm ceiling light. Its constant flashing did nothing to improve my sleep quality. In many other hotels, the fire alarm was located out of eye contact of the sleeping guest. When I reported that the reading lamp (photo) was flickering, it was fixed on the same day. The WiFi was easy to access, with a strong signal, but – although I invariably clicked on “Connect automatically” - I had to log on with the password every I turned on my laptop and mobile, sometimes a slow and frustrating process (one photo – I have many more). A first for me was access to the room safe – with the credit card I used for the deposit and payment. I found this very convenient. The TV had a wide range of channels in several languages, with a lot of sport. The listing in the Guest Directory was pretty accurate. There was no Radio channel, as far as I could ascertain. There was a panoramic window with a view of the Attic Hills (photos). The storage space for luggage and clothes was more than adequate. The bathroom was big enough, with a bath/shower unit (photo) and a generous supply of toiletries, but not enough space around the basin for my own toiletries; there was no non-slip bath mat. The waste bin was a noisy pedal-operated one with a metal lid, the kind that make the guest’s life unnecessarily difficult in some hotels. The desk bin was open-topped. The cleaning staff were unobtrusive and thorough, even discreetly and helpfully tidying away the items I had left in the bathroom. The two bathrobes and pairs of slippers were an added bonus. The tea/coffee-making facilities were excellent, and there was even hot chocolate. The room’s design was fairly modern and tasteful. I tried the breakfast buffet on my last day: it was good but slightly smaller than could be expected from a hotel of this category. There was a refreshingly large proportion of local dishes, instead of the usual predominance of US breakfast items. There was a limited range of soft drinks, relieved by a mechanical juicer, providing fresh orange juice. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. Collapse

We stayed for four nights in a Club room early in December. The room was a good size, kept very clean and had a balcony which would be really nice in warmer weather. The club lounge had snacks available all day including breakfast pastries, midday sandwiches / rolls plus meat and fish dishes in the evening. There was an extensive choice of both cold and hot food at the breakfast buffet in the restaurant on the ground floor. The hotel is some 10 minutes walk from the nearest metro station and 25 minutes walk from the city centre. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. Overall was good value, particularly the club rooms. Collapse

Booked a family club room. 2 double beds in a large room with large bathroom for our family of 4, 2 adults plus 2 teens. Room was very comfortable with lots of space - our only issue was that we would have liked the air con to be a little colder. We paid for access to the club lounge - 1200-1600hrs for food and drinks and then 1800-2100hrs for cocktails. Great selection of drinks and food and would highly recommend paying the extra. Fabulous staff - housekeeping, breakfast and at the front lobby including the gentleman at the front of house - concierge. The breakfasts were amazing, great selection - cheese pie - yum! Great coffee and pastries. The gym was fine with new equipment and maps of local runs are available. Only a short walk to Megaro Mousikis metro station and Lycabettus Hill Furnicular is a short walk away. A taxi to the airport costs 30 euros and can be ordered in 10 minutes which was better than the metro also costing 30 euros and every half an hour. If we were to return to Athens we would stay here again. Collapse
