We stayed here for two nights with dinner on the 1st night. Dinner was very nice and service was good. Our room was on the top floor and very quiet which we liked. Breakfast was nice but staff should make guests aware of where the cereals etc. are as they are in a different room. The room was comfortable and we were very happy with it although there were some improvements that could be made e.g. flashing fridge light, taps on wash basin are badly fitted and your hands touch the sink as you wash them. The cold water also comes out warm unless you turn the tap on fully. I would still recommend the hotel. I really enjoyed our stay here. Collapse

we decided to return to Crathorne Hall having been once before. We had a wonderful Christmas break back in 2016 when our son was visiting from Australia and my parents came too. We always said we'd go again.....so we did. We've just had a two night break. Same friendly staff....we were greeted by the ever obliging and friendly Eli. We had a small issue with our room which was sorted promptly and to our satisfaction by Katie and Alex. All the staff are friendly and helpful but Alex, Katie and Eli are great ambassadors for Hand Picked and Crathorne Hall and really deserve a special mention for going above and beyond!! We won't hesitate to return!!! Collapse

Birthday treat with afternoon tea. Served in the small lounge with open gas fire - very cosy. Lovely selection of sandwiches, fresh scones and small cakes. Plentiful serving of tea. Very polite, pleasant young chap serving. We thought good value at the 2 for £32 offer. Gorgeous hotel, very country house, would love to return for overnight with evening meal at some point. Look to have good meeting facilities with plenty car parking but obviously we didn't sample those. Would be a beautiful wedding venue. Collapse

Firstly ,I would like to thank the Handpicked Hotel group for allowing us to extend our gift voucher by 3 months in order to help us to actually take this break. On arrival and after checking in we were assisted with our luggage to our room by the extremely helpful and friendly porter William who took time to explain all of the rooms features.I would like to say that William is a real asset to Crathorne Hall and went out of his way to make us feel at home. We had booked a Deluxe room for our belated weekend break and were allocated the Osmotherley room which is in the recently refurbished East wing of the Hotel. The room has a rather grand and ornate balustrade up a few stairs leading into the room which is quite an interesting feature. This room is well above average space wise with a lobby just inside the door with a large set of drawers ,a double wardrobe with a safe, coffee machine and bathroom off to the left. The bedroom is down a few stairs from the lobby and has a settee and chair to the right with the Kingsize bed to the left. The obligatory large screen TV is in the centre of the room framed by large windows either side. Within half an hour of settling in to the room we received a courtesy call from reception asking if the room was satisfactory and if we were happy with it and if there was anything we required. That is a nice touch and one which we both appreciated. We had booked the Leven Restaurant on our first night so settled into the Nancy Tennant 'Bar' for pre-dinner drinks. I say Bar, but be advised that in order to get a drink you have to order from the drinks menu and wait for a member of staff to fetch it for you from a separate room with no Public access. Personally this wasn't a big issue for us but I imagine during busier times may be frustrating waiting for service. The meal was ordered from the Table d'Hote menu and was of a high standard, well presented in a relaxed environment with very courteous and attentive staff we both thoroughly enjoyed it . Breakfast is taken in the same room and once again very nicely set out with plenty of choice, a continental option and full English are available. You are able to tailor your breakfast to suit and is cooked to order,of a high quality and very tasty. As is well documented the Hotel is a little isolated set within 15 acres of grounds albeit with the village down the road, at a different time of year an easy walk to the local pub. To sum up we found the Hotel to be very comfortable with exceptionally friendly staff who made the Hotel like a home from home. We both look forward to a return in the future most likely when the days are longer and we can enjoy the grounds more. Collapse

We booked one night in January 2018 after a visit to York. Crathorne has become our favourite hotel to visit on our travels around the UK, the combination of a great building, wonderful food and exceptional staff make a great hotel. Although we booked a classic room we were upgraded to a deluxe room with a fantastic Edwardian cast iron bath that needs a small pair of wooden steps to get in and out. The hotel has around 35 rooms that are split between the main house and the attached servants wing, following a fire a few years ago all the rooms in the servants wing have been fully refurbished, redecorated and now include phone charging sockets, sensor activated bathroom nightlights and bathroom magnifying mirrors. The main house has the original grand rooms used by the family which are generally large with high ceilings and include features such as the large baths although these rooms don't yet have the latest features of the newly refurbished rooms. Canapes were served with our drinks in the Lounge Bar whilst we studied the menu for our evening meal. The food was to the normal high standard we have come to expect, served with all the little extra touches we only seem to get at Crathorne. Breakfast is good with a large choice of continental and English breakfast items served by very friendly staff. Although Crathorne may not have a spa or be as large as some other hotels in our opinion it has the perfect combination of a wonderful historic building, a good location, excellent food and especially the exceptional staff.
