Stayed there last night as a stop over almost cancelled due to the reviews on here , but seriously we paid £130 for 2 adults 2 children dinner bed and breakfast (breakfast was great) staff couldn’t be any more helpful kids were well entertained with face painting and a disco.Bar staff made an error with our bill and refunded the whole check . But yeah the place needs a revamp in the living quarters beds comfy enough and I like the 80s nostalgia.one thing I’m confused-about though is the restaurant wasn’t even at half capacity all night and they told us they were fully booked looking forward to the re-Furb as it has so much potential Collapse

Hotel was quite dated. Our meal at night was a disaster. Firstly the only gluten free option was the steak which gave my wife no option but to order this. The chips that came with the steak were not gluten free so we were advised that she could only have the steak on it's own. We then asked if she could have the madh potatoes that came with the chicken that the other two of us ordered and after a bit of huffing and puffing they agreed. We were then informed that they had ran out of chicken and all the actually had left was steak. So we all ended up having not the best cooked steak after a very long wait.Have since emailed hotel regarding issues but never got a response. Collapse

As a family, we’ve been visiting this hotel for 10 years and have loved that it’s been a child friendly establishment with family values at its core. We decided this summer for a mini staycation and I booked this hotel back in February. At the time I was surprised it was no longer a Hilton and had become a Britannia hotel, I also noted how the price had gone up from previous visits (never used to pay more than £99 for DBB). On arrival, everything looked the same and at check in we had the option of choosing rooms. I asked to make a booking for dinner, as I know that it gets busy. At this point I was advised that the hotel no longer did the family buffet sitting, which was what we loved, instead it was a restricted menu, none of which was particularly tempting but there was a separate option for children. Once I had sight of the menu, I knew it wasn’t for me, the hotel clearly are not catering for families anymore. I spoke to the Duty Manager and asked what my options were as I had paid for DBB. I was told that I could be refunded for the difference between DBB and B&B so that we could eat elsewhere. But given that I booked so far in advance the rates had subsequently increased and they then said they would not actually be able to refund me the dinner increment. We tried the restaurant on the first night as we had already paid for it. The children’s food was awful and inedible. The options were GF fish fingers, GF chicken nuggets, both of which were rock hard and cold, cold chips, congealed beans and pizza. My son was miserable. My food was slightly better, just, the brown bread and smoked salmon turned out to be 2 triangles of normal white bread which had already been buttered, but the salmon was good. For mains I had the beef and mustard mash, which was tasty but the broccoli was dried up. I returned to reception to ask if I could transfer the ‘dinner’ to the Woodshed for the following evening as there was a BBQ - told no. I was advised that I would be given £16 to eat in the bistro instead - guess what, we went to the Bistro the next night at 8pm and it was shut! There was no way that I was going to force my son to eat dried up GF food when we aren’t even gluten intolerant, so we had no choice but to eat out in Aviemore instead, which we did for 2 of the 3 nights. Effectively out of pocket by £60 as I had to pay for dinner a second time. The breakfast buffet was reasonable, but no where near the selection there used to be - I asked for coffee on the first morning and it arrived as we were leaving, I asked for coffee on the second morning and was given a flask of water, I asked for coffee on the last morning but the mug on my table was disgusting dirty. Speaking to a number of other residents while in the pool, all of them were complaining about the restaurant menus, general food quality and how expensive the hotel was. This is a 3* establishment at best! It’s the Scottish summer school holidays, yet the kids club was closed at 6pm!!!! It’s always been open until late with play clubs available until 9pm. A disappointment for the few families that were there. In previous years this hotel has been full to bursting with families, not this time. The hotel has changed from being an affordable family friendly establishment to one that wants to accommodate coach tours. It’s sad, as we have so many amazing memories here, but unless something dramatically changes, we’ll not be back. Collapse

2 night full board stay with young children. Hotel was about average with somewhat small but clean rooms. The first evening, we attended the restaurant and we were "greeted" by the rudest, most arrogant Frenchman I've met in a couple of decades. The rest of the wait staff were nice and friendly but the maître d'hôtel was honestly unbearable, and I don't know what the Hotel are thinking of by retaining his employ. Having since spoken to several locals, I understand that this restaurant was once highly regarded, but during our stay, both the service and quality of food left very little to be desired. The worst aspect was the menu for children which offered nothing but a single slice of soggy pizza or overcooked chicken nuggets 2 nights in a row. The breakfast offering was far superior to dinner. The swimming pool was quite good, clean and a good size. The fun house was quite poor however with out of control children everywhere and no parental supervision. The on site activities looked as though they hadn't been upgraded since the 1980's. In fact I'm quite sure I skied down that dry ski slope when I was a child. Judging by the brownish hue to the articial snow it's the same slope. The area around Aviemore and the Cairngorms is very beautiful with many great activities for families of all ages, but the Coylumbridge Hotel seems to be stuck in a bit of a rut compared to the rest of the accomodation on offer - we will definitely be looking elsewhere next time.
