The Coldra Court Hotel was recently a Hilton Hotel, now part of the Celtic Manor Hotel. The facilities were very good. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and adequate but perhaps need some updating over time. The Seasons Restaurant was very good with a varied choice on the menu. All the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly. There was a courtesy minibus up to the Celtic Manor Hotel. We would definitely recommend the Coldra Court Hotel as it was very good value for a weekend break. Collapse

We took advantage of a Sunday night offer on the first weekend of the summer holidays. I cannot fault the staff at all, all were very pleasant, certainly no issues with indifference or rudeness. The Forum spa was busy as it was a Sunday afternoon but we were able to swim and visit the sauna/spa pool. We had a buffet option in our booking but, on advice from friends, chose to pay an additional £10 each to eat in Pad. Meal was lovely and Walter our server was a credit to the hotel. We also paid to upgrade to a twin queen with a small balcony, not enough room for a chair but pleasant enough to stand and have some fresh air. We had a good night's sleep and the buffet breakfast was very pleasant although we do agree with some other posters that the pearl barley ruined the black pudding! All in all a very enjoyable stay, wish we could have had longer. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is I think that to pay for parking on top of paying for the hotel is a cheek! (Advice for future guests, turn left for the outside parking, it's a short walk to the hotel and half the price of the underground car park) Collapse
Wouldn’t pay extra for a balcony again!

We arrived for a one night stay and waited about 10 minutes to be checked in. Went up to our room looking forward to having a few drinks on the balcony in the sun as we had paid the extra to have a room with the balcony. We were very disappointed with it. The floor was covered in loose stones and moss, the canopy was dirty and the door frame was black and dirty. There was no seats and not enough space to move any seats outside. The only positive of having it was being able to open the door in the night to keep the room cool. The rest of the stay was lovely, we had food in the Olive Tree Garden Room and there was a lovely selection of food on the buffet. We sat and had drinks in the bar and the entertainment was very good. Overall we had a good stay but I would expect the balcony to be clean when paying extra for a room with one and staying in a 5* hotel. Collapse

Room was ok but air conditioning would only stay on for about 15 minuets so it ended up being a stuffy nights sleep. Spa and treatments were ok. We had a table booked in the olive tree restaurant for 7pm and arrived just before, a member of staff said they weren’t open so we walked away, at the same time a coach party was heading towards the restaurant so we went back to the entrance, another member of staff welcomed the party straight past us and explained to them about the buffet food and showed them to their tables, the same member of staff then came over to us and told us we couldn’t enter yet! We were upset, embarrassed and complained about our poor treatment she then showed us to our table. The tour guide apologised to us and said we were badly treated! We didn’t enjoy the meal and left early. The stay was for a special occasion but we’ll just remember the bad service experience! Collapse
Lovely weekend but spoilt by lack of communication

We were booked in as a couple for a treat on the 6th floor signature. We did not know about Express checkin. Bags were taken by concierge as training and husband went to park car. You have to pay daily. We opted for 6 pound a day. 15 inside. At checkin given keys and told to go to ground floor for breakfast. No other info given even though asked if our first visit. We had 2 meals already booked so thought nothing else of this. Went to room. Excellent. Clean. Mini bar you have to pay for. Complimentary coffee ect. Champers and cakes on side had to go ask but they were complimentary nice touch. But please explain to us newbies. Visited sports bar happy hour. Explored grand hotel. Loads of seating away from everyone. Loved it. Loved old staircase. Grounds. Views. First night meal excellent. Went to breakfast as told downstairs asked for room number and given seat. Buffet style very busy but very good selection. Very chatty helpful staff. Our meal booked in same place at night. Awful selection. Very heavy Chinese noodles. Indian curry but not tasty. Or a big heavy Sunday type dinner. This was tasty enough but very stodgy. Would have liked salad options or something lighter. Starter was limited. Dessert tasty bite size options. All this was 88 pound with a drink though! For 2. Next morning went down to breakfast to be told as on 6th floor we had our own area for breakfast! Why not told day before! Off we went. Luxury. Great views no ques. Cleaning staff great. Rooms spotless. We explored and found what we needed. But staff really should give all info at check in correctly so stay is smooth. Collapse

Celtic Manor is a great escape if you want to relax, shot some golf, eat some incredible food and use their great spa facilities. It offers you the chance to get away from the city and when you are high up at the venue, you can enjoy the scenic views. If you want to venture into Cardiff, it's only 20min by taxi. I've stayed here a few times and have come from both Bham and London and it's been an easy trip from both places. Collapse
