The Coldra Court Hotel was recently a Hilton Hotel, now part of the Celtic Manor Hotel. The facilities were very good. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and adequate but perhaps need some updating over time. The Seasons Restaurant was very good with a varied choice on the menu. All the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly. There was a courtesy minibus up to the Celtic Manor Hotel. We would definitely recommend the Coldra Court Hotel as it was very good value for a weekend break. Collapse

On our way from South Devon to visit relatives in South Wales my wife, my daughter and myself called into the Celtic Manor Resort for a bit of lunch on Sunday (12th May). We chose to eat in Merlins Bar to enjoy the sunshine and the views - these did not disappoint. We ordered drinks (one cappuccino; one tea and one iced coffee) together with one turkey & avocado pretzel roll; one roast beef sandwich and one focaccia piadina - not a difficult order by any means. Two of the drinks (iced coffee and the tea) arrived after a twenty minute wait - regrettably the pot of tea arrived luke warm! After a further ten minute wait the focaccia and the turkey & avocado pretzel arrived, shortly followed up by my coffee and then shortly after that, my beef sandwich. The turkey & avocado pretzel was missing the 'avocado' - presumably the thin layer of guacamole was a substitute for the avocado. The beef within the sandwich was thickly cut and 'well done', this was ably supported by thick cut and dry brown bread. The crusts would have surely broken many a loose crown! My daughter, who used to work in the hospitality trade, said the focaccia was OK but nothing special. Despite the above criticisms I have to admit that my coffee was brilliant - great taste and hot. Not having been to the Celtic Manor for many years, I was looking forward to a special experience and not the disappointing bill of fare that we were served. We could have complained at the time but we didn't as we were chasing time and couldn't afford any further delays on top of those already endured here. A great shame on many counts. The 10% service charge was not warranted in any shape or form. Collapse
A real "Disneyland" experience.

My thought as I booked in was "it feels like I am in the Disneyland Hotel in Paris. It is something to do with the sense of space, and the attention to detail in the architecture..Also the efficiency of reception, and the concierge. This continued with the lift to the 8th floor, and that sense that it would be almost kinder to have an internal train service to get to the furthest rooms. And like Disney you need to know the deal: 1. Everything, literally everything is charged at the highest possible premium, from parking the car, to dinner. There is no sense of added extra's everything costs. 2. That if you want a table in a restaurant before 9pm, it needs to be booked well in advance of your stay. 3. the food is of good quality but has a sense of mass catering.... posh school dinners. 4. Instead of being full of over-tired kids. It is full of over-confident and entitled men determined to enjoy themselves. That means dressing for golf at breakfast, calling to their friends across the dining room, and doing everything at top volume. Like the kids in Disneyland having a total disregard for anyone else and their needs. 5. Expect to queue for things, especially breakfast. We joined a queue of 14, being seated by one person. Other guests lost patience, barged past and seated themselves. Perhaps as we were staying there for work the holiday feel passed us by... and honestly, I equally wouldn't stay in the Disneyland hotel in the middle of my working week either. Collapse

I’ll summarise the terrible service we had this last weekend. Car park charge - total rip off for a hotel that you can only get to by car Bar staff - soooooo slow that the ice had melted before the drinks arrived They take your room card - that has your signature on it - and lose it. Raise a potential issue with the bar manager and he shows no interest. I’m sure he’d be bothered if his open credit card acct was open to potential fraud Service charge on everything - for what service? They’ll be charging for the use of the shower and towels soon Lifts - where are the others as three is a joke? Constant queues - so late for just about every event Dinner - call me old fashioned but I like clean cutlery with every course and a side plate for bread - the restaurant reminded me of my local food court in Singapore - although that was only 5 bucks for lunch Butter - lacking at every mealtime Ordered 3 teas and a coffee - coffee turned up and eventually 2 teas after repeated requests - maths course for all staff please Oh and before I forget - bird faeces on the carpet - gross This is just not 5 stars - 4 at most. The staff need a desperate reminder that they are there to provide a service and make the experience a memorable one - for the right reasons. Collapse

I stayed here as part of a 'Sunday stay over'. This was a deal for a Sunday night stay, with lunch and then breakfast the following day. The overall experience was great. The hotel itself is huge, and very well decorated. The pool area is very nice and relaxing. We spent the evening (after food) at the golf club as we watched the final day of the masters, a great experience. The only issue was the view from the room I had paid an additional fee for a balcony, unfortunately I was on the side facing the m4. However no specific fault of the hotel. Collapse

Anniversary stay at the hotel I married in 2 years ago. The service here seems to have declined over the years and is certainly not 5*. Dated and dirty rooms, poor service and awful food. Have sent an email complaint listing many issues with no response of how process has failed or how it won’t happen to future customers, just a generic - sorry, have a free upgrade and 20% of your food on your next stay. I have politely declined and do not intend to stay or eat at Celtic Manor in the future! A few pics of the food (that’s custard, not scrambled eggs), the dirty room and the 20 minute queue for breakfast! If you were expecting it to be the same as your last stay, I would avoid booking!
