The Hotel Cloitrie Saint Louis dates back to 1589, initially a Jesuit School, it was used as a Military Hospital during the French Revolution, later to become a subsidiary of the Hotel des Invalides in Paris. The hotel is ideally located within the walled City of Avignon. Situated only a few minutes' walk from the Popal Palace, and just 10 minutes by car from the TGV station where Eurostar arrives.
At Cloitre Saint-Louis the spacious rooms and suites are air conditioned and fully equipped with minibar, courtesy tray, safe, satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. All rooms are furnished in contemporary style with 46 located in the historical building and 34 in the contemporary building and most rooms overlook the garden or the cloister.
On the roof a sun deck and open-air pool is operated from May to September, while fitness area is open all year round. Guests can also discover Cloitre Saint Louis restaurant, a magnificent vaulted room with a view of the cloister's courtyard. Ample car parking is also available within the hotel grounds for a fee.

This hotel is in a great location close to station and easy to walk to most of the best parts of Avignon. It has a beautiful old courtyard and you expect much when you enter - however there are lots of small things that let it down - the reception team are not all very helpful or as professional as you would expect in this standard of hotel, the male receptionist was excellent (early morning on 10th May) and one female receptionist tried to help us call SNCF to sort out our delayed trains but another one couldn't be bothered. The bar and restaurant were both closed one night (?!) but the main disappointment was the hotel pool being closed the three days we stayed - we booked this hotel for the pool! They offered the use of a tiny pool at another hotel but it was not a convenient or suitable option. The bathrooms of the loft style room also has a very poor and small shower which due to the design completely floods the room. Collapse

We arrived by train and walked the 150 metres to the Hotel which was a sanctuary. The hotel setting is amazing. A beautiful building lovingly restored to create a wonderful ambience. The rooms and beds were large. We were in room 221 which had a separate bath and shower with a view onto the inner courtyard. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner was very tasty and well presented. The breakfast was also of a good standard. Collapse

A lot of the negative reviews on this site confuse me. Either the hotel has fixed a lot, or some people were unrealistic with their expectations. I thought the entire hotel was beautiful and charming. Yes, my room had a few things that needed updating and there were sometimes creaks in the floors, but if you want a new hotel, stay in a new hotel. If you want 16th century charm with a modern bathroom and air conditioning, stay here! I’m a small female traveling alone, but I found both the room and the bathroom to be more than enough room for me. No complaints there. I found the hotel through Expedia, but booked through the hotel website directly and paid about 130 euro a night, which I consider very reasonable for what it was. The staff were friendly and helpful, even though I speak no French, and when I arrived the gentleman at the front desk led me to the lift, as it’s a bit tricky to find at first. The BEST thing about this hotel is the location. Nestled in a cute little alley, I was glad to have taken a cab from Avignon TGV. It would’ve taken awhile to find otherwise. However, once I knew where it was, finding my way back in the evenings was easy. This hotel is inside the walls of the beautiful old city, a short walk from most tourist attractions, and as soon as you leave the alley, you’re literally across the street from Avignon Central Station and very close to Avignon PEM Station. I ate in the restaurant one night and loved it! There isn’t a lot to choose from, but everything is incredibly well-done. I especially enjoyed my appetizer, the slow-cooked egg. Plus, hotel guests get 20% off. I hope to stay here again someday! Collapse
