We arrived after paying a hefty price tag of £239 with high expectations. The location of the hotel is very good - great access to the castle and shops. The room, while spacious, was old and uncared for. At midnight drilling started in the room next to us - the staff were uninterested and the next morning very dismissive. Breakfast was horrible - don’t have breakfast here !!! Would not stay again. Collapse

Stayed one night following a function in the hotel which was very good , with great food in nice surroundings Pros for the hotel - central location in Windsor - views across the road to the castle - nice airy breakfast area in the front of the hotel - great for people watching -all shops and tourist attractions within walking distance - room was clean , iron/ironing board provided, hairdryer , trouser press ( not something you now generally find in a modern hotel ) - normal selection of travel toiletries provided Cons - dated feel to the hotel - no parking . Trying to park on a Saturday afternoon in Windsor is a nightmare . Ended up , after circling some time , in the Victoria St Carpark and paying online via an app . £14 for 1400/Sat- 1100/Sun - hotel is a rabbit warren of corridors on each floor for the bedroom - service by one small lift to each floor but we had to walk some distance to find our room which was up a further few stairs - single glazing to the Windows - some late night noise from the station arcade woke us up - no air con - small electric fan provided - pillows were past their best. I did pass this comment back to housekeeping As a base for visiting the area ,the hotel is ideally placed . If you’re wanting the comforts and facilities of a modern hotel then you’ll need to venture future out of town to the Marriott or Holiday Inn at J6/M4 Collapse

The hotel is situated literally a stones throw from the castle and from its front door the castle walls are around 100 steps. That sadly is the high point for this hotel. It’s an old hotel and the facilities could be best described as dated; poor would be a better word. There is no parking and the loading unloading area directly outside the hotels door is unsupervised so using it is very difficult. Parking in the town is utterly exorbitant and some way from the hotel, the day I stayed I spent an hour trying to locate s space. My room had a small uncomfortable double bed. One bedside light did not work and the TV was attached to a wall, 90 degrees to the right of the bed. It was a very poorly laid out room lacking the modern amenities need for travellers today. The bathroom was tiled white throughout with a shower over the bath. The shower head was clogged by scale and desperately needed de-scaling. The extractor fan was clogged with dust and looked disgusting. Water pressure was weak but was not assisted by the scaling. The hot water was barely hot and overall the bathroom was not a place you wanted to linger in. There was tea, coffee and a kettle but no mineral water. There was an iron, ironing board and oddly, a large fan. This was needed as it turned out, as there is no air conditioning and even on a chilly, damp May Day the room became very hot and stuffy. In summer it would be unbearable. There was a sign in the room offering complimentary ear plugs which stated that as this was an old building noise would be an issue. It sure is! Aircraft, traffic, pedestrians, fellow guests, all can be heard clearly throughout the day and night. The outdoor disturbances are not helped by the total absence of double glazing. Indeed the glazing and windows may be original! The window my room, 3 floors up, did open fully and the view is of a gents urinal in the building opposite 1 floor down. Turn you head to the right and the castle walls are tantalisingly close! Noise from within the hotel ranges from the band/disco to fellow guests walking past. There is absolutely no soundproofing. I was here for an event and the food was good but service slow, there simply were not enough staff. At breakfast the buffet was a meagre offering of full English, cereal and a small selection of tinned fruits! The restaurant was empty which was just as well as the buffet could not have coped with many more guests. What food was on offer was tasty but there was no effort to provide a more varied selection. This is a tourist bed factory and given its location probably doesn’t need to try very hard. It may be “Olde Worlde ”but in England that generally means it’s rambling with narrow dimly lit corridors? creaky floor boards and bad plumbing. If that’s your thing you’ll love this place but sadly I could not find any redeeming features and certainly none which would justify the rates demanded. On departure the disinterested, charmless reception staff offered no thanks for staying and entreaty to return sometime. Collapse

A treat from a friend allowed us to indulge our love of tea, cake, scones, bubbly and dressing up smartly. The staff were attentive and efficient, keeping the teapots full. The presentation was excellent, with a three tiered sandwich, scone and cake stand brought proudly to our table with a view of the castle. The Earl Grey tasted delicious, real leaf tea, as was my wif'e's Ginseng and Raspberry, a lovely pink colour. The sandwiches included cucumber, ham, salmon, egg and cress, the crusts duly removed. Scones were warm, light, a good size for jam and cream, the small but beautifully formed cakes were Victoria sponge, Baklava, chocolate. We recommend having tea early in the afternoon, to allow time to work off the calories walking around the beautiful town of Windsor.
