Just having a spent a few days in the city of York, I just wanted to do the review whilst it was all fresh in my mind. We arrived at our hotel just on the outskirts of the city. The Churchill Hotel, which has a grade II listed building, with a contemporay design paying respect to a fine former Prime Minister, in a very central location. It was 5 minute walk to the city centre, essentially just up the road from the The Minster. It is also about 10-15 minute walk from York Train Station. Now I would just like to add that it has been a long while since I recived such a warm and friendly welcome as we got at the The Churchill. They took the time to find out it was our first visit, and so went through the local visitor guide and pointed out some local knowledge such as an excellent selfie spot on the castle Wall, and litte Betty's. We were celebrating a birthday and we were very fortunate that they were in a position to upgrade our room which just topped off the welcome. Traditional service by taking us to the room and giving some history on the hotel itself infusing us with their passion of the city and the hotel. The room was very spacious and had all the amenities needed for a short stay. This included free WiFi, although we didnt use it. There were tea & coffee facilities in the room, with a couple of chocolate bars. There was also bottled water, and an iron should it be needed, All included. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and the food was delicious and good choice. My wife had the special, and took advantage of the pie. Both great choices. The bar is small but tastefully decorated and fortuneately for us, had a great selection of Gin. There was also a good selection for breakfast, from the full Churchill breakfast (Yes I did), to the lighter continental version, along with other variants. Service was very good, and again I cannot fault the staff for their friendliness. York itself is a beautiful, clean and friendly city. There is something there for everyone. The Minster is some of the most stunning architecture you will ever see. The Museum gardens were lovely and well kept and you can walk along the River Ouse into the city. Some lovely pubs where you can sit by the river and enjoy the view. Lots of Museums, including the National Railway Museum. if your a train enthusiast, you will love it, if your not (as I am) you will still really enjoy it, how can you not. The Shambles is a quaint street in the city which has some interesting shops. If your a Harry Potter fan, you will really enjoy it. We participated in one of the ghost walks starting outside of the Kings Arms. It cost £5 per person and lasted a good hour and half. Scary, not, but still very enjoyable and another good way of seeing some sights and learning about the city. If you like your beer, there were certainly lots of little beer houses so plenty to choose from. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed spending a couple of days in York and look forward to returning as still lots to see and do. To the staff at The Churchill, thank you for all what you do. Collapse

As we had our honeymoon in York we choose to have our 30th wedding anniversary too. The Churchill was recommended by two separate friends and it did not disappoint at all. Lovely historic building kept to a high standard. We had breakfast which was on the dear side but was very nice and kept us going all day. The minster is a short walk away as well as many shops and bars. The staff were great with a special mention to Ian on reception who couldn’t do enough. We cannot wait to stay again soon. Collapse

The room was very stylish, just as it had been pictured. It was clean, quiet and comfy. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great, just a short walk to the York Minster. Loved the large fluffy towels however the shower pressure and temperature were finicky. We never fully figured it out. Parking was convenient but very tight, as we found out everywhere in the UK. Collapse
