This is definitely an older property, having opened over 50 years ago, but it wears its age well. The huge, classy lobby and big, solid front desk and bank of brass doored elevators hail from another era. The lobby reminds me of grand hotels of my childhood. The circular architecture of the building along with the rooftop dining room were amazing in the 60s. Although the hotel has recently been updated, it still shows its age. The rooms are fairly small, and have odd angles, due to the architecture of the building. Room decor and furnishings are decidedly dated. Being a 60s hotel, there aren't as many outlets as we'd like to plug in and charge our electronic devices - I had to unplug a lamp to plug in my laptop and charge my phone at the same time. Bathrooms seem to be original, and I've never had a fridge or microwave in my standard rooms. Many of these amenities are a given in modern hotels. Having said that, the hotel is a classic. Staff, from the front desk, to the concierge, to housekeeping are exceptionally efficient and professional. The hotel is in very good repair, rooms and public spaces are spotlessly clean. The new flatscreen TVs are up to date, and simple to use. And, most importantly to me, the WiFi is fast & reliable, even when the hotel is full. The positives outweigh the negatives. This is a classy old school property, with all that includes. While missing a few amenities, the room rates and parking rates are exceptionally reasonable. The ability to plug in the car on some very cold winter nights is also a huge plus. This hotel is always my first choice when I go to Edmonton, and has been for about 5 years. I'll be back! Collapse

This hotel looked quite outdated, but my personal impression about this place was very good. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and quiet. I heard a few complaints from my colleagues about their check-in experience and the infrastructure in rooms, but I did not have any problems. This hotel has a couple of good places to eat on the ground floor, as well as a revolving restaurant on the top. I had great experience in all of them as well. There is no sauna or hot tub, but the gym at this hotel is nice. Collapse

I was a little scared bc the last few reviews were bad. If you are just needing a place to stay that’s quick and convenient I highly recommend this place. I was coming in from BC to watch the hockey game and visit with friends, I was super exhausted and wanted to check-in early which I thought wouldn’t happen but the front desk lady was really nice and got me into a room. There was a promotion on parking so that was free which was nice too. All the employees in the lobby area including the valet’s were warm and inviting. Room was decent, clean and beds comfy, the hotel seems older and dated but don’t expect to pay a lower price and get the Westin experience. For the price I got online I would stay here again Collapse

I don’t normally write reviews but i feel like i have to warn future guests as this stay had been an extremely frustrating experience. If you are planning to book a room on the Concierge Floor call the hotel ahead of time to see if you can actually make use of the Concierge Lounge. During our stay here (Dec 30-Jan 2) the lounge was closed, it had been closed since Dec 18 but this was NOT WRITTEN on their website nor mentioned elsewhere. Why sell a premium room when your main selling feature is not usable? Things such as these should be mentioned out in the open instead of being concealed. The front office staff also failed to mentioned this when we checked in. We only found thru a letter in our room. -Things got worse the following day. Since the concierge lounge was closed, we were directed to Cafe’ Lacombe. When we asked to see the menu, our server insisted that we can ONLY have the hot buffet. I told her that we got a letter from the hotel management that said that we can order off the menu because the concierge lounge was closed. She said that were not even supposed to have the hot buffet because the premium rooms only get the cold buffet. It was as if the hotel was doing us a favor. She did not come back to our table with the menu so my fiancé had to approach her to order and he agreed to just pay for my meal. It should not have been this difficult to order breakfast. The management did not communicate this memo to their staff and so the guests have to be hassled even further for this lack of communication. Terrible customer service. -We were also misinformed by the gentleman at the reception when I asked what time the fireworks at the Legislature will be. He said 11pm or midnight. He was clearly wrong because it was at 9pm. Do not count on their front desk for reliable information about events happening in downtown or within the city. -Their AC in the concierge rooms are dated so it can get extremely noisy. -When we checked in it was -27 overnight. We tried several parking spots on their parkade but most of them had no working electricity for car block heaters. +eggs bene's were good. + Our room, although dated was spacious and it was cleaned and refreshed daily Not once did anyone say sorry for the inconveniences during our stay but rather ignored our situation. This is not a place I would recommend. Collapse

Amazing view of downtown Edmonton! Good food at the restaurant in the lobby! Loved the mushrooms soup! Great location downtown shopping was walking distance away. One bad thing is I stayed when they were renovating and it was loud during the day.
