Description
At the Castle Hotel you will find a warm and friendly place to unwind, you’ll find a proper traditional bar, a roaring log fire to toast your toes and plenty of comfy sofas in which to lose yourself with a good book. The original rustic charm and character is still there, but with a few modern, fresh ideas. A love of food guarantees some seriously good food by the talented chefs. Those tempting aromas wafting through the building are likely to be from the Josper Charcoal Oven.
Because you’re here to relax completely, the bedrooms promise comfort and style. Think airy & spacious, luxury beds to dream on, flat screen TVs, unfussy but stylish décor and you’ll get the picture. Each room is individually designed, ranging from a dash of modern to traditional luxury. All you have to do is choose the style which suits you.
The Castle is situated in the beautiful Towy Valley, on the Western fringes of the outstanding Brecon Beacons National Park (there are 520 square miles of it). It’s the ideal base for those who wish participate in the many outdoor, sporting and venture activities the area has to offer.

We booked a midweek stay in April. From the very first moment we were greeted, the staff were very friendly and professional. Our room (Room 2) was superb. Huge bedroom with a four posted bed, a kind of dressing room which led to a massive bathroom including a roll-top bath and separate shower. We had dinner in the hotel on one of the evenings. It was just great. As many have said before, floorboards, steps etc are not flat and even. But, IMO, that adds to the character. The hotel is warm, comfortable and in a great location. Collapse

We were upgraded to a "Best" room to suit my mother who has limited mobility. The room was bright and comfortable. The food was superb and all the staff friendly; nothing was too much trouble.W even listened to the Choir practising.

I had been a satisfied customer of this hostelry on a number of occasions. No longer. I was an invited guest at an event to be based at the Castle Hotel that had to be cancelled because of snow preventing all access to the town. The hotel charged my credit card some £3,500 on the first scheduled day of the cancelled three day event. and it has taken six weeks of very hard work to get my money refunded despite an immediate admission that an error had been made. I was told lies by the manger that a credit had already been issued on at least two occasions. I was then treated as a hostage over several weeks to blackmail the event organiser into making a settlement. One of the more amazing statements made was that the company had insufficient funds in the bank since they had just paid a tax bill. The owning company is Taste Inns Wales Ltd. Individual letters to the company directors have not even been acknowledged. I can only describe the treatment I have received as shameful and disgusting. I will never again utilise the Castle or any other of the Tate Inns group and I would strongly suggest that other potential guests might also wish to avoid a company that has such atrocious management practices and so little regard for honesty in its dealings. We rocked into town with no accommodation and called into the Castle Hotel. You don't get to stay in the castle, that's a ruin - The Hotel comes second by the slightest of margins. I don't think there was a level floorboard in the whole place. Our suitcase on wheels tried to make a quick getaway to the window. That aside, the place has awesome history and the very friendly staff were more than happy to share recommendations about where to go, what to see in this quaint little town in Wales. The breakfast was fabulous and I freely admit that I would have liked to spend a few nights enjoying the Castle Hotel and Brecon village. Next time around, I will. Collapse
