We have been coming to Castillo Beach for 19 years (off and on!! - couldn't do it every year!!). Over that time the place has basically stayed the same (apart from a new reception and a fence). As owners we were welcomed in the early days as you would expect, couldn't do enough for us, but now, owners are the 2nd class citizens, all about All Inclusive now - they get the better apartments and also have some sort of entertainment, as the bar now closes at 6:30pm. Owners have no social place to meet and get to know anyone. Not a bad place for a cheap holiday, but cheap is what you get!. Collapse

I reviewed this hotel at length this morning and couldn't upload my photos so here are the photos. This hotel is disgusting, we have stayed in lots of 2 star hotels and they have been wonderful. The staff at this hotel are bordering on rude and ignorant. The pool is the best part of hotel, the rooms are absolutely grotty and miserable. The hotel is full of time share people and locals and they made us feel very unwelcome. Collapse

We travelled here in July. Our first apartment which was no.87 was a bit dated but for two star we were ok. Then a day into the holiday we were cooking a chicken and the electrics tripped out. An odd job man came out the following day and didn't understand our problem. We managed to sit it out another day but as we were self catering felt that this was unacceptable. So we went to reception with all our paperwork and were swiftly re-allocated another apartment. This was no. 41 which was nearer the pool and much more updated. This hotel is a little bit out of the way. So get on your walking shoes. My main gripe was that nobody could take inflatables or balls into the pool. This made some children a bit board and they started to play up their parents. It may have helped if there was some pool entertainment. If you are wanting entertainment. Then do not go here. If you want a pleasant, quiet holiday and you are fairly fit. Then this is perfect for the price. Collapse

We arrived at Castillo Beach with an open mind, but dreading what we were coming to having read the reviews on here. Our experience could not have been more different. Our apartment was in the Moon area of the complex and was light, bright, clean and the best equipped self catering kitchen we have come across in the Canaries. The kitchen had a full size oven, microwave, hob, kettle, toaster, fridge, iron and ironing board and a full range of crockery and utensils. There was a hairdryer provided and ceiling fans in both the living area and the bedroom. Outside, we had a patio area with table and chairs, umbrella and clothes airer. Our towels were changed once during the week and a second fresh set was provided on request with no problem. We did not get a change of sheets which was a down point. The pool was an adequate size and clean, although the water was very salty which I was not prepared for. There were plenty of beds available and we managed to get beds every time we went. Yes the furniture is dated and yes the mattresses need replaced as they are not the most comfortable, but this did not spoil our holiday. We don't expect 5 star accommodation for 2 star prices. It is a bit of a trek down the hill every day to the main commercial centre but it is not difficult. A taxi back up will cost between €2.80 and €3.50 depending on the time of night. There is a smaller commercial centre within 5 mins walk with pub grub bars and a supermarket if you don't want to go into the main town but the choice of meals is limited. Caleta de Fuste itself has a lovely atmosphere and we really enjoyed our stay. It is well worth the extra five mins walk to the right of the main beach to get to a much softer, golden sand beach. Taxi from the airport took 10 minutes and cost €12 so don't bother booking transfers. All in all this complex is value for money and I would return tomorrow. Collapse

The bungalow was small with a view of other bungalows. Needed refurb but comfortable enough as a base. Sheets had holes in them and didn't fit the beds. Towels changed regularly but bathroom itself was clean but very shabby. The garden areas are black volcanic and, although could be attractive, are covered with water pipes. The pools were good but cleanliness was a major issue. The area and water was clean, tidy, but when a child was sick in the pool, it took three days and several visits to reception to have the water cleared of vomit despite visits to reception. That is not good enough. The only restaurant open was clean and well presented. Choice was not overwhelming but generally well cooked. Beware: Veal and Venison = Liver. We like liver but many others didn't. Puddings/Deserts were limited to a blancmange type sweet and jelly, tinned fruit. Nothing wrong with it except monotonous. One day a Spanish rice pudding. That was delicious. Breakfast was fine. A walk to the town was ok going but uphill coming back. The small train, to and fro town, stopped outside hotel reception, cost around 2euros but sometimes a bit of a wait. Would we go again? No. The island is such that you see one part and you have seen it all. The villages are like any Spanish villages anywhere. If you want a quiet holiday, this is fine with the above provisos. Fine as a base for touring. Overall, we had a good time but the hotel needs to improve the bungalows, tidy up the gardens and improve the cleaning of pools. Collapse
