The “girls nite in” package was booked for a 21st Birthday party as a few of the ladies had already experienced this package in the past and had been satisfied. We had 7 rooms. Good points (which makes my overall note mediocre rather than horrible) : Check-in ; receptionist excellent Rooms allocated all side by side A private room allocated for dinner with a big table Restaurant waiter staff helpful & polite Plenty of choice at breakfast, that was good Bad points : Rooms shabby & dirty ; left over cans & papers found behind the bedside table in inches of dust, furniture broken, bathrooms mouldy with showers & taps malfunctioning, wallpaper peeling off Dinner : a disgrace ! Soup was apparently good, the prawn & crayfish cocktail insipide (plenty of seafood, although not fresh, but no seasoning and maybe 1 shredded lettuce leaf), all the main courses horrible (chips reheated, fish too salty for most, beef bourguignon no comment !!! I think that the recipe needs to be reread. Bourguignon is made with red wine, onions & carrots, not shredded beef & water!). 4 mains of Bourguignon were “forgotten” because the kitchen didn’t understand the ditto sign! The dessert sticky toffee pudding was good, we then waited 20 minutes to get the glaze lemon tart which wad nothing like a tart, more a Kiplings lemon cake!! Both were sent back immediately. Also maybe just a detail for some but very important for me in a hotel of such standing : the 6-7 mains of Bourguignon were served on 3-4 different types of plates and half of the tablecloths were put on upside down with hems & tags showing (dinner table & breakfast tables). Very unprofessional ! Function room : aircon not working- we called twice for help, no one came. Room overheated making the evening very uncomfortable. I requested twice during the evening to speak to a manager : no one available and the chef was not on duty. I was told that the duty manager would see me the next morning, but upon check out she was not available. An official complaint with more detailed points will follow because the important 21st Birthday of my cousin was ruined. Collapse

I brought my wife and family to this location thinking it would be a great idea for my wife's 40th birthday how wrong was I we paid for what we believed to be a private function with other paying guests which the night started off quite well my food was OK but my wife's chips and goujons where cold as the night progressed there was a number of people walking in and out of the venue that weren't dressed appropriately and what I could only describe as drunken chavs in tracksuits, football shirts and t shirts that hadn't paid a single penny and was totally drunk to the point one guy kept falling into guest on the dance floor which resulted in numbers of guest leaving the staff had no control of who went in or out I felt really sorry for one of the lady staff as she tried her best to ask them to leave which they would walk out and within 5 minutes they was back in again falling into walls banging into tables at one point one guy fell through a door and was laid on the floor for a good 5 minutes before another guest went to pick him up which the DJ just ignored it. To say this was supposed to be a memorable night for my wife all I can say is it turned into a nightmare when two absolutely drunk woman approached our table and starting abusing my family and friends for no apparent reason just because we was sat chatting and not dancing these people shouldn't have even been in the event I asked them if they could leave our table as we wasn't interested but the abuse went on for a good five to ten minutes for me to have to leave the room and speak to a member of staff who clearly is aware this is a regular occurance at their events and they have apparently spoken to managers about the situation and it just falls on deaf ears.. All I will say if your looking to go to a nice family type event I'd strongly recommend avoiding this place as it wasn't a cheap night to say I spent over £1000 which included entry to event bottles of champagne and accommodation for our family I've emailed the manager and yet not a single response the manager will be fully aware as his staff filled a report in for the hand over for the morning.. I can't say the accommodation was bad as our room was really well presented we was in room 216 the only issue with the room was the shower as the shower head was broken and pointed directly onto the tiles which water ran over the side of the bath along the floor and soaked the carpet which I had to spend over an hour cleaning it up. Just returned from a night at the Carlton Park. Just say it exceeded expectations. Spacious car park, friendly greeting at reception, lovely spacious room on 4th floor: tastefully decorated, perhaps a bit outraged but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Shower powerful and hot. Went into the spa, yes it isn't massive and perhaps we were lucky because there was only us in there. The pool warmed up once you had in a while, the Jacuzzi is small (at least there is one) and would be a struggle if more than 2 wanted to use it and the sauna is quite big. We ate in in the evening and the meal was ok. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic though and well worth the money. Plenty of choice both continental and full breakfast, what's not to like. All the staff were helpful and friendly. We left wishing we had booked an extra nights stay. Collapse

My fiancée and I stopped here for a night to attend a friends wedding. I think our room was number 112 on the first floor, was a decent size nice and clean just with a lovely view from the window. The only down side was very weak WiFi signal but yet we hardly spent any time in the room other than to sleep so it wasn’t a big deal. The drinks at the wedding were fairly pricey, a pint of Guinness and cider came to just short of £10. The self serve breakfast the next morning was decent lots of choice, staff were very friendly at checkin and check out. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Collapse
