Had a good two night stay at the hotel. We stayed in the 4 poster 'Manor' room and it was very comfortable. I was a little concerned by some reviews but it was fine. Staff do seem to be stretched and have many responsibilities though. Breakfast was enjoyable - served (but no menu on the Saturday morning) and self service buffet on the Sunday morning (which I preferred as I didn't want complete full English so could pick and choose.) It was quite noisy though for a quiet location, as could hear other residents talking late at night and in the morning which was a little annoying. Overall, a pleasant stay. Collapse

As a family of 6 adults & 2 children we booked here as a treat. None of us had ever had a Christmas lunch out, we thought it would be nice to give us all a break. Upon entering we were shown to our table. There was a little gift for the 2 children, which we thought was a nice touch. Apart from a cracker on the table you wouldnt have known it was a Christmas lunch. There was completely no atmosphere & very little decoration in the room. There were 2 young waiters looking after approx a dozen tables of which some had 12 people sat at them. Upon ordering a drink at the bar( when the barman was there) we were told tbe payment machine had broken. None of us could remember what we had ordered as we had booked way in advance. We were supposed to have name placecards with our food choices in our table like others did but we didnt. Our starters arrived & quite frankly were poor & looked unappetizing. We were asked if we wanted our sorbet(of course we did, we'd paid for it)! We went through to get our main & had to wait for them to replenish veg & saysages & gravy. We eventually sat down & we all enjoyed it. Some of the family orderd Christmas pudding which was described on tbe menu as Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, posset with a sprinkling of Christmas dust. What they actually got was a meagre slice of pudding with a dollop of runny custard slapped in middle of a plate. By this time it was 3.45 pm & we still were waiting for the mince pies & coffee. To be honest we were all fed up waiting so we left without having them. This sub standard experience kind of ruined our Christmas day after all the Christmas lunch plays a big part of the day. Needless to say we wont be going back. All attempts to complain have fallen on deaf ears. Wouldnt recommend thiz place if yours thinking of about having function here Collapse

Rude and unhelpful reception staff, who ignored us on entry and exit.. OK accommodation which was warm and clean.. Food was 'pub standard' Nothing more! Lack of staff and multi-tasked caused issues and made for an unpleasant stay. NO atmosphere considering it is Christmas, NO festive menu or music. VERY disappointing and a bad decision to have a family meal there! A cross between "Fawlty Towers' and 'The Shining'! Will NEVER visit or stay at this venue again! The hotel website is VERY misleading and does NOT reflect what you will get. Collapse

Rang Tuesday 12th Dec to book one night with disabled access, (I am on crutches and hubby has recently had a transplant) we was told the room was available. We had already chosen our breakfast from the lovely range advertised on their website (Eggs Benedict for me). Arrived Wednesday, got in at 5pm from a cold snowy freezing outside, to find no heating on in the room, We complained to reception who said it would be sorted. We went out, returning at 9pm and the heating was still not on radiators all cold, we complained again, and after about half an hour of me sitting with my coat and gloves on in the room, the radiator finally kicked into life. It went off about 4 a.m. I woke up cold at 5 am and put extra clothing on to try and get back to sleep in the cold room. Got up at 8a.m and showered in the cold bathroom, towel heater and room heaters still cold. At breakfast we was told breakfast items are limited when there are not many guests in, so no full breakfast menu available (does not warn you about it on their website), and there is no reduction in price for a limited breakfast menu. We got an apology for the freezing room and was told it was due to some sort of theft on Saturday that it had affected the heating. They did not tell us when we rang on Tuesday that the room might not have any heating, even though there was snow outside on the ground and we were booking a disabled room and are not in the best of health so we need heat! and there was no reduction in cost for the awful conditions we had to put up with. This place has obviously gone down hill since we last went (we have been a few times over the years), but we wont go again. An apology for the cold room simply was not enough. Its a premier inn for us next time, cheaper, and a good nights sleep guaranteed! Such a shame this place has gone down so much as it was the most convenient for visiting relatives and up till now, we did not mind paying the fairly expensive price as its supposed to be a luxury hotel, but they simply seem to care more about money than comfort of guests these days, such a shame. A year ago, I would have recommended it, but not again after this stay, I think we might have been warmer is we had slept in the car! Collapse
