I stayed a night on points, its in a busy but uninspired part of New York city, in between two gritty areas - the Port Authority and Penn station making it easy to get to either. The room was quite large and the free laundry (bring your own or buy soap) was a reason I stayed there as its so rare for a NYC hotel to have that amenity. Why three stars? The room I was in was pretty beat up, the furniture was falling apart especially in the living room. I was suprised they didnt already replace it as it should have not been still in use in the condition I witnessed. I didnt want to sit on the chair. Everything else was decent, the hotel had a nice little fitness center as well. Avoid the south side of the hotel as there is a large construction pit with work even on the weekend. It will be a few years before that high rise is up. Collapse
Classical 3 star property with inexperienced staff. You get what you pay.

Firstly, the location is great. Close to Time square and Midtown yet away from the heavy traffic. We were lucky to get a high floor with great view over the city. That I appreciated. There is too much gap between shifts. One receptionist was outstanding (unfortunately I did not get her name) she gave us all needed information, was polite and extremely helpful in every single way. Candlewood Suites are lucky to have a staff member like that. True GEM! At the time I stayed the Hotel was going through some renovations, nowhere online I could find any information about that. I see some people are constantly mentioning the housekeeping, well you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out as this hotel is aiming for a different type of customers. One of the downsides is that the hotel smelled like "marijuana" all the time I was there (5 nights) On the hallway, in the elevator, down at the laundry and even inside my room (especially when the AC was on or window open) We also saw few police offers on the floors guiding few people. Not very promising I have to say. Overall a good stay, mainly because we were out all day and that one receptionist made our day with her appearance and smile. The others seemed to be working there only for the paycheck. You get the drill. At one point which makes this only a 3 star review is that in our last day my wife was getting out of the shower while the door was opened and some maintainance guy came in and wanted to check the fire alarm!!! Seriously? There was no sign of any kind of smoke or fire on the floor or in the room! If this would have been 4 or 5 star property I would have spoken the Manager right away and ask for a full refund. The only reason we did not do it was that we were about to check out and were in a hurry. But maybe this is something guest at Candlewood Suites can expect. Collapse

Be aware - the hotel is currently under renovations. This doesn't really change anything, except that there's no hotel 'ambience' in the lobby. It is a work site during the day. But overall I had a great stay here. Considering the price I paid I actually think this place was an amazing value. Checkin: The check in area was tiny. If this were more then a 3* hotel I would've been disappointed. But the service was quick and excellent. I showed up at around 2pm and no room was available. But they guarantee checkin for 3pm, and by the time I returned(at 302pm) the room was ready. Room: Not fancy. But it was clean, surprisingly large for Manhattan, and well equipped. It had a flat screen tv(that I never turned on), a kitchenette that had a stove/microwave/full fridge, and most important, a Hilton bed. I love how the 3* Candlewood has the same beds as any 5* Hilton anywhere in the world. What a great sleep. My room was completely unaffected by the construction. note: my reservation(via expedia) did read a Queen bed. We only ever received a double. But I didn't care much and by the time I was ready to do something about it my wife had already unpacked her clothing. this didn't effect my rating of the hotel as I never gave them a chance to do anything and it may very well be expedia's fault. Location: Amazing. A few blocks off Times Square. I actually loved that in the other direction there's a number of non-tourist restaurants and grocery places less then a block away. Services: None Overall: Great stay. Unaffected by construction. Would absolutely stay again and would recommend to anyone that doesn't need fancy. Collapse

This review is from a stay I had 11/6/2016 - 11/7/2016 The staff I encountered was friendly. Travelers beware; the credit card you reserve your reservation with will be authorized prior to your arrival. (Not listed on website) If I was aware of this policy I would have provided the same credit card. The room was extremely cold and I was not able to control the thermostat. I called for Engineering; he was able to fix it and warned me that there would be a burning smell before it happened. I discovered the carpet was also wet. I was only there to sleep so I let it be.
