Hotel very tired and dated. Very poor maintenance and the carpet in our room was very badly stained the hotel needs a deep clean, and maintenance needs monitoring, as in our room, even the paintwork was very shoddy. Although we only stayed one night, as a stopover, wouldn't stay again. Also felt breakfast was very overpriced. Collapse

Stayed here with family. We were with National Holidays. Why is this place still open? Our room was filthy. I asked at reception for anti-bacterial wipes to give the place a once over. I recommend you bring some if you have to stay here. The dust was everywhere the bathroom was dirty. The splash marks on the mirror were not from us cleaning our teeth, we'd just arrived! Also the hair in the bath wasn't ours.... Need i go on. The girl from reception did come & give it a quick clean for us. Including the 'snot' that was on the telephone. Once that was done, we then had to ask someone to fix the curtain back to the rail. The food was ok. The staff were nice. Next National Holiday I'll be making sure we don't have to stay at this sh#thole again! Collapse

This hotel advertises free parking, that is the case but we arrived to an already full car park. The Receptionist was very pleasant and our room was OK (for its sale price). We settled down to watch a bit of TV but, once the heating had switched off, it became quite cold. Instead of getting ready for bed, we sat in our jumpers and then slept in them too. Breakfast was varied and edible, though there were no eggs in the cooked breakfast line up. We'd finished and moved on to jam and toast when I noticed three fried eggs sat on the food warmer area. For unassuming people who've never stayed before, it would be beneficial to put a card saying 'more eggs due soon'. Likewise, information on how to work the showers without achieving a near scalding temperature would be a very good idea. Overall, the hotel is in need of some TLC, mainly with regard to re-decoration. Collapse

We stayed here for 3 nights with National Holidays, so didn't pay a huge price, tho' I would still expect the bathroom/bedroom to be clean. There was dust in the drawers in the bedroom and the bathroom floor was very dirty where the floor met the bath. We took photos and complained at reception, who said the message would be passed to the 'duty manager', who would be in touch. No one got back to us. Food was plentiful, but unimaginative. Hotel coffee was undrinkable. Will never go back to this hotel Collapse

Before I go into detail, the most frustrating part of this is that I didn't take any photos but I will just say the website photos are really professional. We chose this hotel because we were catching a train from Gathurst and it is also close to the M6. To give you a flavour of the quality, I rang ahead of our stay to ask if the facilities were available prior to check in. The receptionist responded quite curt by saying "what facilities?" When said the swimming pool the response was "yep" On the day of arrival, we found a parking spot quite easy as there is ample parking. We walked into the reception area where the woman on the desk looked at me and my colleague as if we had 2 heads. Assuming this was because we several hours ahead of the 2pm check in, I mentioned that I rang earlier in the week to use the pool and gym, but was cut off mid sentence and informed to see the man at the gym and there would be a charge. At one point there were 2 other customers and myself at the desk and a comment was made "none for ages then 3 turn up.!" We were however allowed to leave our bags in left luggage although I was almost afraid to ask. We went to the gym and fair play the guy was ok and charged us £4 to use the gym and pool. No charge for lockers which is good. The changing rooms are quite small and if the doors are open as they were you can see straight into the gym and more importantly they can see you, getting undressed. We walked through to the pool which if I'm honest is really for children to learn swimming which is fine. There is a jacuzzi and sauna which are both good sizes. The decorations have seen better days. There's a rusty bin in the corner behind the jacuzzi which sticks out like a sore thumb and a couple of lounge bar chairs to sit but they also double up as a way of hiding all the paint which is flaking off the tiles. Even if I had a camera obviously there are no photos in the pool area but trust me it could be so much better and at little cost. Once we showered (2 in the changing rooms) and got ready we headed back to reception to ask for a taxi to take us to the station. Basically we were pointed to a laminated sheet with taxi firms and their respective phone numbers. By the way bar in the hotel only opens at 3pm but we were advised that as long as you are a patron drinks are served all night. The reception area it has to be said is like a greenhouse. The glass roof magnifies the heat and the receptionist made sure we knew that this also something that annoyed her. The room I have to say had all we needed and was value for money. The bathroom could benefit from a new Vinyl flooring and updating but shower was fine and beds comfortable and clean. TV and tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Clean towels and fresh cups for drinking. Large enough room with 2 chairs for lounging. The following morning we went to check out and both the receptionist and a cleaner were talking and as I approached I said good morning and received no reply from either one. It may sound petty but they are the face of the company. Breakfast is available although we chose to go to a cafe next door called VJs which was brilliant. All in all the stay was comfortable but lacked some real customer service and modernising. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless on a tight budget or on a stag do and would pay the extra to stay at the premier inn across the road near to the Charnley arms. Collapse
Better than most.

Surprisingly this hotel was not as bad as we had expected after reading some of the reviews our room was large and looked newly decorated it was warm and clean. There were some problems the mattresses were lumpy and there were problems with the bathroom. The shower was not very good, it was over the bath and when you tried to ajust the water it came out of both the bath and the shower at the same time, the problem was made worse by the fact that the bath tap was boiling hot and the shower cold meaning that you had problems getting nere to adjust it. The meals were passable with a good selection on offer both for breakfast and dinner. For what you pay it was okay, much better than some Britannia Hotels. Collapse
