When arriving at the hotel check in was extremely slow. While passing the bar we stopped for a drink and got talking to other guests with horror stories about their rooms, so at this point we were not looking forward going up to the room. On arriving through the maze to our room we were not shocked on our discovery thanks to the other guests. The room looked like it has not been decorated since it was built, the net curtains had cigarette burns in it , the wall paper was falling off, the bathroom tap was broken. If I had to stay in this room for a whole night I would have refused but I was only in it for a couple of hours so decided to grin and bare it. When going downstairs for our meal we asked about the advertised carvery. When the waiter asked if we pre paid our meal and we said no he then said we should look at the bar meal , we questioned what was on the carvery the reply was beef, chicken well chicken burger, cake and tea or coffee. With that reply we decided to look at the bar menu. First second and third choices were all sold out. When we eventually reviewed some lasagne we believe the chef forgot to put the pasta and veg in it as it seemed to be a bowl of melted cheese. If we didn't laugh we would of cried. Parking at the country house was a terrible. It was organised chaos, cats dumped anywhere no organisation the areas were very poorly lit up, cars made to park on wet grassed areas. Transfer to airport ok on departure was ok a little late but no problem. On arriving back we phoned for our transfer back to the car park and was told to wait over 30 minutes for the next one. At no point when booking this service were we told it was going to be like this. So this hotel and parking was absolutely terrible and will not be using this again Collapse

We used this hotel for a chance to have a break before proceeding on our flight to Canada. The hotel was quite comfortable. However, the room we stayed in was very dated. Most of the staff were very pleasant. One word of warning! Don't touch the coffee, it was the worst I had tasted in my life, one sip and that was my lot. Collapse

Where to start. They need to employ people on Reception that know how to deal with people, the receptionist was so matter of fact and essentially useless. I had no idea about wifi, breakfast times etc. He had just come back from a cigarette break so I was clearly inconveniencing him somewhat! The place is almost a parody of itself, think 1970's hotel in any seaside town and that just about sums up Britannia. It is dated, dirty and generally very tired looking. As another user put it, better off sleeping in your car. Although I wouldn't advise that in their Car Park! My room was just about functional but honestly the TV on the wall was the size of a postage stamp. I could barely see it from the bed. I was in a room near the lifts and all I could hear for hours on end were the lifts going up and down, not very annoying at all! Then some friend of humanity decided to run up and down the corridor shouting and banging doors for 15 minutes, honestly where do these people come from. In short, this place is a complete dive, cheap yes but for a very good reason. If you like terrible decor, rude receptionists, then this may well be the place for you. Collapse

We had a late check out and on 2 occasions we were rudly awoken by housekeeping shouting for us to wake up and get out of the room.!!!! On the second occasion we opened the door and explained we had paid extra for a late check out & the man just turned around and walked away, no apology or acknowledgment.!!! Worst experience ever after staying in many hotels before.!!!! Collapse
