Our trip with Superbreak was seamless. Booking online with them is simple and easy. We travelled from London to Newton Abbot by train and picked up our hire car right by the station. On arrival at the hotel the team at Bovey Castle take care of everything. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with easy access to main roads to discover the rest of the county. I'd highly recommend as a short break. Collapse

Our annual family trip to the West Country started well with an early start out of Surrey and comfortable easy drive to our chosen destination Bovey Castle . On arrival into the estate over the cattle grid we were pleasantly impressed with the beautiful grounds and imposing building but this unfortunately was going to be the best of it The guys on the door are all quite Young in ridiculous outfits and were clearly just about putting up with the clientele, no sooner had I parked one of these guys approached me and told me that if you were staying for more than a day you could not park at the front of the hotel and he need my keys to move my car . I asked the reason why my car was any different to all the other cars parked with me to which he replied they were all going to be moved , ok I replied but not now as I'm tired and have to grab a coffee and relax however I was again told that it had to be moved now . So in I jumped and drove my car in the direction I was told and was shocked to find I space that wasn't ideal to the rear of the hotel 400 yards from the entrance. It was a mess with flies bins and some kind of workshop , not at all the arrival I expected. my wife had checked in without me and with all the nonsense re parking I had no idea what room I was in , I asked one of the guys on the door with attitude and was told the room number followed by " write it on your hand so you don't forget " . How rude was that . To finish this rant about the parking I would like to point out that none of the other cars moved as I noted them and it turned out that the dinner guests who weren't staying apparently have parking priority over stating guest who also dine ???? Pathetic snobbery for local rich golfers . The hotel has parking issues be warned . Ok on with the other stuff . The gym ..without doubt the worst I've ever seen almost laughable . Didn't get my kit out of my bag . Pool steam and sauna dated . Smiths resturant very good with nice terrace . Other resturant stuffy dated and pretentious ( front of house girl very pleasant and helpful btw ) Putting green good fun as was the fly fishing ( missed the shot gun clay pigeon shoot as I was moving my car around for the dinner guests ) The hotel is more of a old type boarding school than a castle and it's tired . We were fed up we left a day early and almost cheered driving out the gate . Oh and I almost forgot ..the place is seriously haunted ...in our roon we had doors closing on their own and the lights going on and off in the night ...I'm not kidding . Very creepy Collapse

From the moment we arrived at Bovey Castle we were so spoilt and cared for. From Simon at the door who took our bags to our room and parked our car, to the room service who gave us delicious fudge and the weather forecast for the next day. We had a lovely walk around the grounds before dinner - everything so green and unspoilt. We pretended to play golf calling it Golfick - kicking the golf balls with our feet into the holes! Dinner and breakfast were both superb. Wines rather pricey but that was easy enough to forgive. All the staff were so polite and friendly. Can't wait to return. Collapse

I have always wanted to stay at least one night in a real castle, see it from the inside and know I did not have to leave after the tour. We had a lovely room with a high box bed, very comfy. The view from our room was alas, of the front courtyard, beautiful with the fountain, but not the parked cars. Our son-in-law a room with a view out towards the lush green hills and a small lake on the property. Ladies, I swear Mr Darcy would emerge from the water in his wet white shirt..... We ate in the informal restaurant. My Fish Pie was sublime. Breakfast is not included, but I opted for the continental, which was very good, son-in-law had the full English, which looked unreal but too much for me. The hotel sports golf, falconry, sloe gin making course, many lovely walks in the area, which we could not check out .....and naturally, a spa. The various sitting rooms would make Mr Darcy and his aunt proud. Friendly service? Collapse

My friend had her hen here and from the start to the end the service was perfect. Bovey is expensive and we managed to get an advanced booking but even so was pricey. However we all seemed to have a lovely time. I thought the lodges were much better than the photos, the photos don't do the rooms justice. The rooms are large with large bathrooms. We had ordered an online door shop from Waitrose and due to running late staff had put this away for us. The staff were lovely, they gave us lifts around in the golf buggy when it was raining and were really friendly. Afternoon tea was lovely, although cocktails a little overpriced. But staff were accommodating with our many dietary requirements. The spa was not as good as we hoped, I think a few more rooms such as fire and ice rooms would make this better, however I would go again because the staff in the treatment rooms were exceptional. My massage was amazing and since having it I have had no back pain. I've been for quite a few massages and none have been as good as this. The cider making was fun, although more drinking than making! But we all loved it. I think it was good for a hen. Overall I thought Bovey was very good, and the drive from the motorway is very picturesque too. Collapse
