It is a good hotel near to the financial district and near to the station of the cable car. The rooms are really big but a little bit old. The staff of teh hotel is very friedly and solve every problem.

We (4 adults) stayed here early March, we asked for and got a quiet room, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and tidy, and the complimentary coffee and tea in the reception were most welcome. Although the hotel is on the corner of Mason and Eddy not the most salubrious area, but we did not feel threatened in any way, and we saw just as many vagrants in other parts of the city, overall a very pleasant stay and plenty to do in San Francisco, we will certainly return to this city. We stayed at the Hotel Bijou for 7 nights at the end of March. The good - The hotel lobby has been refurbished and is very well presented. Free coffee and water are available. The room was clean and spacious, we stayed in room 602 the Pacific Heights room which was not located on Eddy Street. We slept extremely well, the bed was very comfortable and there was little noise. Maybe we got lucky as I can imagine the noise being a lot worse with the amount of homeless that congregate directly outside the hotel all day and night on Eddy Street. The bad - THIS HOTEL HAS A THIEF WORKING FOR THEM! On our first day in San Francisco we arrived back at the hotel to see that our room had been cleaned as requested. However, my partner soon noticed that her asthma inhaler (ventolin) had been stolen from her belongings. As you can imagine, this is a very important medication for her so it was not left out on the side freely. This individual has gone into our luggage which was locked away in a cupboard and removed the inhaler from the case and it’s sealed packaging. Following this discovery we then went down to reception to mention what had happened. The initial lady on reception did not seem to concerned or knew how to handle the situation. We were then greeted by the manager who also did very little to help so we set off to a pharmacy to try and replace the inhaler. As we were travelling from the UK we had to visit a GP and get a prescription, in total costing us $150. We also never had any response again from the manager despite passing her many times on reception and how serious the situation was. As you would expect, you doubt yourself and think ‘well maybe we did lose the inhaler’ no matter how sure we were that it was taken. What happened next confirmed our suspicions that the inhaler was taken. Following our evening out later that day we arrived back to find that my partners small roll on Dior perfume and been taken from the tableside. This was not us being paranoid, after the inhaler incident we made sure we knew where everything was (even taking photos of the room) to ensure that we were not being paranoid or going mad! THE MOST WORRYING PART - The following morning as my partner was getting ready she noticed her bank card loosely laying on the floor outside of her purse which was locked away and left in the room whilst we was out the previous evening. This for me confirmed there was a thief, I purchased her that purse and know that it does not magically open itself and cards do not just fly out from there slots. Worried, my partner called her telephone banking and thankfully confirmed her balance was roughly the same as it was before we left the UK (she does not have internet banking) however we had a different surprise once we got home. A few days after arriving home my partners bank statement came through the post. Interestingly there was an american transaction on the card! We never used my partners card in San Francisco, we used cash and a Revoult card, The card was used at The Melt at 32 Market St for $21.76 on the 26th March (the same day the inhaler went missing). What was petty thieving turned into fraud. This individual had the audacity to take someone else's card from the room, pop round the corner to buy themselves food and then return the card to the room. This explains the card left out on the floor, I can only imagine the individual heard someone on the floor and left the card carelessly in a panic. On top of this we later noticed that the authenticity card to my partners purse was stolen and a receipt for an equally expensive watch was also taken. Lastly, around £30 was also taken from the purse. This had a negative impact on on our stay. The rooms need a safe! This will always happen if there are no safes provided in the rooms. I did take my own travel safe however this could only hold so much like passports etc…. If you do stay at this hotel please be wary of your belongings. If the manager reads this, please be aware that there is a thief within the hotel and I suspect this is not the first time it has happened. The other small negatives are that the hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin with many homeless people in the area. This did not bother us to much but for some it may be very intimidating. The rooms also have no air conditioning meaning they can get extremely hot and stuffy. The hotel itself is fine, it’s basic and is on the edge of a sketchy area but at the same time it’s also a short walk from everything else San Francisco has to offer. It’s such a shame one individual or possibly more could potentially seriously damage this hotel. We have filed a online police report with the San Francisco Police Department for fraud. Whoever done this could have done a lot more damage with the card they stole and I seriously hope this does not happen to anyone else who stays at the Hotel Bijou. We have the exact time the transaction was made and have provided all these details to the police. Collapse

Stayed here in March the staff were always friendly and willing to help you find everything you need. when we checked in we were offered glass of complimentary wine or bottle of water. Always on offer were tea and coffe in the reception area free of charge. The only thing off putting about this hotel is the homeless people that are outside. We stayed a total of 3 nights and never had any problems. This has nothing to do with the hotel but it just seem that its the same wherever you are around the area. Collapse

We stayed in this hotel in February this year, the hotel and staff were lovely, just such a shame about the area it is in, scary place when it starts to get dark, all the homeless seem to congregate outside this hotel and can be really intimidating, especially if they know you’re a tourist! Every night we were woke up by yelling and arguing from the homeless outside, the hotel staff did try and move them on, most of the time with no joy, homelessness is a massive problem around the area. But on a good note we did have clean lovely tiny rooms and 2 double beds, don’t think I would stay in this part of San Francisco again because of the homeless Collapse
