We enjoyed our stay at Tillington Hall, room was clean on arrival, nice white linen and modern flat screen tv with sky. Breakfast buffet was well organised and plenty of choices. Car park easy access to hotel. I think it would be nice to have a few lights lining the drive way on the approach to the hotel as it was quite dark and uninviting. Apart from that an enjoyable stay. This is a 3 star hotel and not trying to be anything more. We had a great offer, 2 nights 2 people full English both days and bottle house wine for £99. This alone gives no room for a moan. Good location 1.6 miles from Stafford town centre and near to m6 or a34 roads. Large free car park. Dog friendly. Excellent buffet English breakfast. Clean and tidy. Rooms are outdated; carpet threadbare in places, the house keeping staff didn't bother cleaning cups in 216 or 217. Didn't replace plastic cups in bathroom. Would we stay here again? At that price most definatly and we would pay slightly more. It's accessible and close to nearby shops Collapse

I booked a conference room for a half day LinkedIn workshop and everything went swimmingly well. The room (Queens Suite) was lovely. When I walked in the room looked superb (See photo), which gives a great and important first impression of both me and the hotel. The staff were great, friendly and helpful, and the refreshments ordered were bang on time, and hot! Will definitely be using it again and would thoroughly recommend it to others. Collapse

12 of us arrived after a long day to check in and then find that one of our rooms, which was booked as double, was a twin when went to it. One of the other rooms, booked as an executive suite, smelt terribly of cigarette smoke, room moved, two more times and a bottle of wine compensation later we were all sorted in our rooms. Despite the rooms being wrong, the staff were so polite and helpful. The rooms themselves are very tired, need grout replacing, wood fixtures worn and need replacing. I think there had been screw on knobs on the bedhead at some point, one side has a screw for where the knob would have been attached. We ate at the hotel restaurant and whilst some of our meals were good and all arrived together, 2 of us ordered chicken wrapped in bacon from the bistro menu. It arrived at least 5 minutes after all the others, which wouldn’t have been too bad if it had been great. Sadly it was annihilated. The chicken was so over cooked it had a leathery suntan and was too dry, the bacon wrapped round it might as well have been rawhide! After waiting and everyone else nearly having finished I just ate the best part of it, leaving the rest. Again, despite this, we couldn’t fault the restaurant staff and their attention to drinks and any extra touches were spot on. Rating given based on staff, not as much so the hotel. Collapse

Where to start. I booked the non-inclusive party night for early December, for 14 guest, with 3 double rooms for myself and two other couples. I booked Tillington Hall after having a lovely time the previous year at the same type of evening. Before I had even arrived, I had a call from one of the other guests to say that reception had no room booked for them. This happened with all 3 rooms I had booked, despite sending confirmation by email. Check in took at least 15 minutes for each room. After a quick drink in the bar, we moved to the party room for our non-inclusive party night (non-inclusive being a dinner dance but not with drinks included), only to find that we had been seated in the drinks inclusive party as there were low numbers for the non-inclusive. The drinks on offer, which we had to pay hotel prices for, were standard beers, cheap spirits and possibly the worst wine it has ever been my misfortune to taste. Added to this was the pleasure of being brusquely informed by a barman, that I could only order two drinks at a time and having the inclusive drinks rules sign banged down in front of me, despite the fact that I was a paying customer. After a couple of hours and a below average meal (some were cold and none were particularly well cooked, with some inedible) and music aimed seemingly solely at the 20-30 crowd, the guests who stuck it out, only because we were staying, retired to the bar for some real drinks. My wife retiring early as she had to leave for work early the next morning. When I got to our room, it was to find a flooded bathroom, due to a faulty tap that was leaking and a duvet that was actually smaller than the bed. As it was after 2am and my wife had to be up early, I decided against complaining right away as the disruption would have been too great. After a poor breakfast I checked out and reported the leak to reception, to inadvertently find out that the same issue had happened in other rooms as I was asked if I was in a certain room which was not the one I was staying in. On the Monday following I detailed all the above points in an email to the person with whom I had made the booking, copying in the head of guest services. A week later I received a very unsatisfactory reply, apologising for the mix up with the room booking, telling me that it was my fault for not complaining about the room in the middle of the night and basically they didn't care that we did not get the night we had payed for. I had hoped to get some resolution from the hotel, but they clearly don't care about their guests experience. I will not be entertaining or staying at this venue again and will advise family, friends and colleagues not to either. Well done Tillington, great job! Collapse
